Ok, I bought tix a couple weeks ago, and had the second balcony. I had heard in the past that they release some good seats at the very last minute. So I checked today and they had 4th row center stage!! Well, money is REALLY tight, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity, not just for myself, but moreso for my daughter. The original tix were a gift from my dad, so I only paid for the close seats.
ANYWAY......just a beautiful show! Just as great as I remember it from 2 years ago!
Cool sets, with little "storylines" going on. Emma and Delaney (Martina's daughters) were part of it of course, and they are just little dolls! Emma with her little front missing teeth! LOL! They have really good stage presence for their ages!
Martina looked great in every set, very classy. I say this all the time, but the girl loves her heels to be high! LOL! I think the only time she didn't have on heels was during the part where she wears the big red velvet dress. But when she came out in the red skirt, tights and knee high boots-WOW!!!
I love the whole slide thing up on the big screens. So cool to know Martina is a Rankin Bass kid like myself. Beautiful, funny and touching scenes from the McBride's various Christmas mornings. Martina made a comment about if she knew those videos would be used in that manner she woulda fixed her hair and put on makeup. Please. She still looked great! And in one photo of her holding one of the girls as a new born, the woman had on eye shadow!! LOL! My fave pic was one of Martina in a jean jacket with leather fringe and Big 80s hair! If I saw her back then, I woulda went nuts for her!!
As far as the actual performance, well, what can you say?? I have NEVER, EVER, heard someone recreate a studio perforamance (where you can do multiple takes) like she does live! Unbelievable. JUST like the CD. And when she did O Holy Night accapella, the audience gave new meaning to the phrase "pin drop". And when she reached the final "devine" of the song, my arm gave new meaning to the word "goose bumps"!!
I went to say Hi to Martina's husband afterwards, but it was obvious he was rushing to the back. He did say "Hey man, what's up" and shook my hand, which was nice.
Now, about my daughter-
I kept telling my daughter to stand up and wave to Martina. Martina didn't look our way really for the first few songs. Then she did her little walk through the audience, but started on the other end. As she approached back up to our area, my daughter said, "Where's Martina, I want to talk to her!" (So cute!) So I stood her up on the seat and Martina walked up and said, "Come here". She then said something to the effect of "I want you to come with me, is that ok?" and she walked hand in hand with my daughter back up to the stage!!
I was grinning from ear to ear!! As Martina approached, I was whispering to my daughter, "Tell her your daddy wants a hug!" LOL!!!
So then Martina started doing her thing, reading Twas the Night Before Christmas and everything. Then she asked my daughter where Santa lived. Now my daughter watches ALL the Rankin Bass specials, but I KNEW this was one thing she DIDN'T know!! LOL! So when M put the mike by her, she said, "Skylar!" LOL! So Martina said, "Oh your name is Skylar?" and then she asked again if she knew. Skylar gave a big "Ummmmmmmmmm......" LOL!!
Then in the middle of the "kiddie" part, Martina steps to the my side of the stage, smack dab in front of my view. She said "the next song is not a Christmas song, but I wanted to sing it with all the children up here" and broke into In My Daughter's Eyes! Well, I started to tear up!
She sings the whole song as the camera crew pans the kids. As she is singing the last line, they gave a nice long shot of Skylar as she just stared at the camera. So in my view, I have Martina McBride singing In My Daughter's Eyes live, while right behind her is this huge picture of my daughter on a movie screen! So then I started to cry!
That whole experience made buying the closer seats worth every penny of it! I know cameras aren't allowed, but if I had mine, I woulda taken a shot!
I HAVE to meet this woman someday, and tell her what this meant to my family!
Santa threw presents to most of the kids, but Skylar didn't get one. But when she came down, she had a present for me-a soking wet diaper! She is learning to potty train, so she held it all day.
Come to think of it, if Martina grabbed me by the hand and brought me next to her onstage, I'd pee in my pants too!
All in all, a great show!!
