I kept joking that our town was featuring the "84th appearance of The Buckinghams in 16 years" at our fest.
But there were a few positives. For one, they usually feature a part of their show where they'll play songs of other Chicago acts (NC5, Ides, Chicago, etc). Well this year was really good as they featured Chicago set (Chicago as in the band) which included Beginnings, Does Anybody Really Know & Make Me Smile! So if I had to see them AGAIN, at least they did a good job with these!.
They did all their typical hits, including Back in Love Again which wasn't as big a hit as their others. But-and this will not Pete out-they played an album track! They played the song C'mon Home, a track from their Portraits album. Pete once stated on these boards that this was a great song, a pretty heavy one too, especially considering the year and that this was a "pop" horn band!
This really impressed me as The Bucks were an AM band and weren't really the type to pad their sets these days with album tracks like say Steppenwolf or Spirit would.
I had hoped to talk to them afterwards and mentioned what Pete said, but I was away from the stage and did not get up there in time.
I also saw Chuck Negron and will have that review up a little later!

Sounds like a very cool show! I would've liked to have heard their takes on the Chicago songs - those are some of my faves. That's good that they are adding some of their lesser-known tracks to the set list alongside the hits. I'm not sure how often they perform in southern CA, but I'd like to check out one of their shows sometime!

Sounds fun! How many of 'em are the original members? Two. And no, not lead singer Dennis Tufano. The two original guys are Carl Giammerese (sp) who now sings lead and bass player Nick Fortuna. For whatever it's worth, the other 3 guys have been with them a LONG time. Not anywhere since the hit years (more like 20 years) but long enough where they know the material well.

Holy crap!!!! THEY PLAYED C'MON HOME?!?!?!?!?!? That's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! What did you think of the song itself, Adam? I tried to post an Mp3 of it on my obscure song feature from a couple of years ago, but had problems uploading it to the Yahoo site (I tried for several weeks), so I gave up on the feature entirely... I almost went to see Three Dog Night on Saturday, but due to the heat I decided to stay in with Dani and the kids. Regardless, I'm planning to see Ian Gillan later this summer. I wish The Buckinghams would play around here.. Maybe one of these years they'll do an Oldies 103.3 free concert at the Hatch Shell in Boston. BTW- I'm so jealous of my girlfriends parents, they are going to see (Check out THIS line-up): Leslie West's Mountain Joey Molland's Badfinger Rare Earth Lovin' Spoonful and headlining: Blood Sweat & Tears!!!

I thought you always LIKED the Buckinghams, Adam. This sounds like you were surprised that you enjoyed their concert.
I can see them doing Chicago stuff. Their sounds are not dissimilar.
C'mon Home sounds interesting. I'll have to see if I can find it anywhere.
BTW, did you mean NC6, or is this a different group - or the same group reduced to five members.

"Back in Love Again" is one of my favorites, and I'm sorry it's not played anymore. Did they play "Mercy Mercy Mercy"? (another of my faves)
