Truth be told, I don't own this, so I only know the 2 big singles.
I have heard from Kathy that this is a great album though.
On the other hand, I have read where it is a disappointment as a follow up, several years later, to Rumours. (But how do you follow a monster?)
Anyway, Tusk is a decent song, but I absolutely LOVE Sara. Actually, I don't remember when it was out. And when I first heard it on classic rock radio, I dismissed it as a faceless song. Boy was I wrong. LOVE the beginning of the song.
How bizarre is this-on CD, the single version is on the Tusk album, while the full length is on the Greatest Hits!! (I know, this was to get the doulbe LP of Tusk onto one disc, but still!)

What a neat album this is!I remember my sister playing the song Tusk in high school marching band.It sounded so cool.

Was a little disappointed with this album, at first. Guess when it first came out, I was expecting Rumours, Part II. It a good album. You would think a double album would produce more than 3 top 40s. Fleetwood Mac in 1979 may have been the only band able to get the Univ of So Calif marching band to play on an album. Good album, not their best. Have it vinyl. Favorites: Tusk, Sara, Think About Me,
Over & Over, Storms, Brown Eyes, Never Make Me Cry, Walk A Thin Line.

Hi Dawn:) I never owned the album either but saw it alot in the record stores at the time. Of course I know Sara (love Mick's always rock solid drumming on this)and Tusk , but that 's basically it. I Have both on their Greatest Hits disc . I seem to remember that it got mediocre reviews back in '79.

I had TOTALLY and completely forgotten about "Think About Me" which was a hit in the spring of '80. This Buckingham-McVie lead is ignored by radio today despite being a pretty good track.
The title track, "Tusk", has an incredible drum line and the marching band horns and cymbals certainly make it distinctive. Wasn't it the USC marching band on this cut? I don't exactly remember...
"Sara" is the best here...ethereal and wispy, everything comes together perfectly making this arguably Stevie's best performance on vinyl.

I don't own it, so I don't know anything but the 3 hits. I do remember that it was hyped a lot, but was later considered a flop. It's hard to follow-up a monster single album as it is, let alone follow it up with a double. All I can say is I would have loved to have been in the studio when the marching band was recorded, it must've been LOUD!!

Rumours was so superb that any subsequent album, even if it was solid, was bound to suffer a little in comparison. It is a little surprising that only 3 top 40 singles were released from it. There are several more songs that could have done very well as singles, including 'Brown Eyes' and 'Never Make Me Cry'. |

You're right, it didn't get the best reviews - most music critics have called it overambitious and uneven. 'Sara' and 'Tusk' are the two best tracks on it, IMO, but there are some other great ones, such as 'Think About Me', 'Angel' and 'Brown Eyes'. Overall, it's a good album, and I'd definitely recommend it. |

You're absolutely right about 'Think About Me', Boogie - I never hear it on the radio anymore either. I can't figure out why that is - it's a great song, and was quite popular back in the day. Yes, that was the USC Trojan Marching Band on 'Tusk' - they're also featured in the video. I remember seeing it on VH-1 Classic about a year ago, and thought it was great! |

Good choice! At least 4 of the tracks graduated to the recent 2-CD compilation. Especially LOVE "Sara"-LOVE the intro piano.
