YES!! You did this today since I missed yesterday's right? (Just finished that one, BTW!) SUCH a great album, and IMO, their last bit of greatness. Invisible Touch was not as good, songwise, and was SO overplayed. This album takes me back to this time of the year BIGTIME. When we were going to Springfield for our 8th grade field trip, my buddy and I went to buy some tapes for the bus trip. I got More of the Best of the Monkees and this one. Side 1 is great, straight through. Love Mama. Actually, That's All is probably my least fave of the popular tracks, although I owned the 45 first. Side 2 has three KILLER songs in a row. LOVE hearing them together. The fact that Taking it All Too Hard wasn't a HUGE hit is a crime punishable by death. GREAT choice today, Dawn!!

Dawn, SOOOO great! DEFINITELY in my top 100 albums, the trio's best EVER. And amazing that there was only one top 40 hit, "That's all". EVERY track deserves a HUGE round of applause. Invisible Touch, the follow-up (and nationally their biggest) went just too over-commercial (but it's still wonderful!). Track-by-track: Mama-Phil never sounded so fierce! This is a headphone cranker! Great percussive beat. That's all-Yep. Definitely fit top 40 like a GLOVE. Not my fave tune from the album, but I can never dislike it. Great piano. Home by the sea-Good, steady energy. AWESOME synth! Somewhat progressive, but... Second home by the sea-Now THIS was 80's progressive rock! Mostly instrumental, a KILLER drum! Illegal alien-I heard the video was HUGE on MTV. If released in 1986 or 87, this woulda definitely hit top 40. "IT"'s "Anything she does" DEFINITELY sounds inspired from this! Great instrumental bridge, complete with horn! Taking it all too hard-Phil never sounded better. A TRAVESTY this didn't hit top 40; WORLDS better than any Phil solo ballad (And his "Against all odds" had just been #1!), and even better than the '87 biggie "In too deep". On my next revised CRAZY list, this should definitely be in my top 1000. Simply brilliant. Just a job to do-More rockin' ear candy etched with synth! I LOVE this, too! The bridge is super, complete with Phil's high voice. Just wonderful. Silver rainbow-Said by a few to be the album's weak spot, I LOVE this for some odd reason! That refrain is so addictive! That's just me, anyhow. "You never know if you're coming or going!" It's gonna get better-My least fave from it, and always has been. Did get some album rock play. I can barely remember how this goes since I always hit the "skip" button! BRAVO, Dawn!!!

Like you, I think this is a fantastic album, much better than Invisible Touch. I remember listening to this constantly in the spring of my junior year of high school. It's absolutely rock-solid all the way through. And I agree, 'Taking It All Too Hard' should have been massive! What a great song!

Every song is fantastic, and they all fit together so well. It is strange that there weren't more top 40s from this album. I agree with you and Sat, 'Taking It All Too Hard' should definitely have been a hit. I've always loved it, as well as 'That's All', and 'Just a Job to Do', but my favorite is 'Silver Rainbow'. Absolutely wonderful!

Isn't it cool to listen to those tapes from back then? I have a few tapes of songs I taped off the radio in the early 80's, and like yours, they still sound just as good as the day I taped them. One of the tapes has part of a New Year's Eve countdown on it, The Best of 1981! That one really brings back the memories!

Hi Dawn
A great album. I agree with Sat - the Music Man that this was their "last bit of greatness." Many good songs here. Favorites: Tha'ts All, Illegal Alien, Mama, Home by the Sea, Taking it All too Hard, Silver Rainbow.

Favorites: Tha'ts All, Illegal Alien, Mama, Home by the Sea, Taking it All too Hard, Silver Rainbow. I agree with both you and Sat, dodger. Invisible Touch isn't a bad album, but it's nowhere nearly as consistent and interesting as this one. And the subsequent albums were even farther removed from Genesis' original sound.
