Actually don't own this one, so I am only familiar with the box set cuts. Someone else on here (Maybe Pete??) point out how Face the Music, New World Record, and this one is one of rock's great triple plays or hat tricks for our friends north of the border. I agree. The two big singles, Turn to Stone and Sweet Talkin' Woman, I remember sell from my youth. My brother and I pointed out how Turn to Stone in different parts sounds like both Queen and the Bee Gees! Steppin' Out and Sweet is the Night are both good. Mr Blue Sky is a really great song that our local Timeless Rock station recently starting playing (THANK YOU!!). Good album!

I loved it then and I love it now! Another great album from ELO . I bought it back in '77 / '78 . Bought the Turn To Stone 45 as well . I loved the cardboard spaceship that came with the album (remember that?). So many strong tracks - my classic rock station plays Mr.Blue Sky quite often. Faves include : Sweet Talkin' Woman , Turn To Stone , Birmingham Blues , Night in The City , Summer and Lightning , Jungle and Mr. Blue Sky.

I love this album!!! I had the Turn To Stone and Sweet Talkin' Woman singles as a kid (STW was on light purple vinyl!) but I just heard the whole album a couple of years ago. Like many double albums, maybe there are a couple of songs that could have been omitted, but there are too many good cuts here for a single lp!
Promo copies of this album exist on blue vinyl. I'd LOVE to find one!!

You and your brother are right - they do sound very much like the Bee Gees and also Queen on 'Turn to Stone'! Both it and 'Sweet Talkin' Woman' bring back so many memories of that time for me. For years, I didn't hear 'Mr. Blue Sky' on the radio at all, but it's recently started getting play here also. It took me a while to warm up to that song, but now I love it!

I knew many of the tracks from the box set, but didn't get the actual LP until fairly recently. The cardboard spaceship is probably a collector's item nowadays! 'Night in the City' is an album track I absolutely love. I think that could have been very successful as a single!

I've always wanted to start collecting colored vinyl records, but they're very hard to find nowadays. I agree, it would be hard to condense this album down into a single album. So many of the songs are excellent!

This album had some really good songs on it. Trouble with this album is it followed New World Record and came before Discovery. It kind of gets lost in the shuffle between those two really great albums. Good singles, good album cuts. Not bad, just really not their best. Favorites: Sweet Talkin' Woman, Mr. Blue Sky, Wild West Hero, Turn to Stone, Steppin' Out, Night in the City.

It does seem as though those other two albums are better remembered, probably largely due to the success of the single releases. But this one is great as well, and has some very strong album cuts. As I mentioned to Ken, I especially love 'Night in the City'.

I friggin' love ELO, and I consider this to be a really good album.
They're all great songs, but my serious favorites are "Turn to Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "It's Over", and "Sweet Is The Night."

This is one of those groups that makes me wanna blast my stereo when I hear one of their songs, and of course, I have to sing along. I have a cardboard standup that belonged to my aunt sitting right here beside my desk. Up top it has "Electric Light Orchestra" and below that "A New World Record" with their their logo in the middle.

I imagine there aren't many of those still around nowadays.
