Probably their best album.
I am not a huge Doors fan. I am not one of those people that calls Morrison a genius who was years ahead of his time. It's like the Who, I like a handful, but nothing compared to how much gets played.
This album has 8 songs that get play, or are "classics" or well known songs, beyond just their fans.
My faves-Break on Through, Alabama Song, Twentieth Century Fox.
SO sick of Light My Fire.

Morning Dawn
This is another of my all-time favorite albums. Another practically worn out vinyl. Light My Fire, despite being overplayed, is still one my all-time top 10 favorite songs. I really hate when the oldie stations play the "short version," cutting the instrumental in the middle. IMO, that is what makes the song.
Break On Through, Back Door Man, & Twentieth Century Fox are great classic rock songs. Crystal Ship & Soul Kitchen are wonderful ballads. The Alabama Song is a fun song with, as I call it, the "merry-go-round" music in the middle. The End, although long, is one of the better protest songs.
Great album, great choice.

OMG!! Just about my favorite album! There's not much I can really say,I like everything on this album. When "Light My Fire" came out,I was in high school, and I went around with a radio all the time, just hoping to get another listen of that song. "Break on Through" was maybe the rocking-est thing they did. And "Crystal Ship" maybe their most psychedelic.

Just listened to this the other night (it had been awhile) what a great album ! I listened to the doors all the time in high school .I really got into them after reading No One Here Get's Out Alive. Bought the album on vinyl back in Grade 9 and have upgraded all their albums to CD . So many excellent tracks:
Faves:Soul Kitchen , Light My Fire , Twentieth Century Fox , Backdoor Man , Alabama Song ,Take it as it Comes and Break On Through.

Many of these songs still hold up very well today, IMO. I like 'Light My Fire', but agree that it's been very overplayed.

Like you, I don't like it when radio stations play the edited version of 'Light My Fire' - to me, it's much better when heard in its entireity. I remember it took a little while for me to warm up to 'The End', but it does have some very vivid lyrics that really make you think.

It's a great song, one of the classics of the genre. 'Crystal Ship' has a nice dreamy feel to it, and I love the keyboard work.

That's a book I've always meant to read, but have never actually gotten around to it. I first got acquainted with a lot of their music back in 1987, when I started listening to oldies. I've liked 'Light My Fire' since I was a kid, though.

Another good book about the Doors is Ray Manzarek's Light My Fire, My Life with the Doors. I got as a birthday present a few years ago and found it a good read.

It's like the Who, I like a handful, but nothing compared to how much gets played. Well, I AM - ;D Love the Doors. Love Morrison! But I can understand your point, SAT. If you're not a fan, then the songs do tend to get old fast. My yearbook from my junior year of high school has me in my favorite green tye-dyed Doors shirt. My mom said I'd regret that someday, yet I never have. I did regret wearing my NKOTB shirt on my first drivers license, though. My old bedroom at my parents house still has my Doors posters on the wall, and my Beatles and Monkees posters. Pretty much the rest of my stuff is gone. The local head shop is a great supplier for Doors stuff, just don't buy t-shirts there. My husband bought an Ozzy shirt there over 7 years ago. It's been washed countless times yet still reeks of incense.....

There's a used record shop in my city that used to have all sorts of music-related t-shirts and posters, and they had a lot of Doors items.
