Two of my fave Alan Parsons songs are on this album.
I picked up a used vinyl copy mainly for Breakdown (with the Hollies' Alan Clark on lead vocals), but also for I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You, which I didn't like as much. Turns out now, I LOVE "Wouldn't"! I do still like Breakdown.
I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You has that "rock singer sounding disco" sound to it, much like Climax Blues Band's Couldn't Get it Right.
Good stuff.

Great album - I borrowed the CD from the local library and recorded it on to cassette quite a while ago and also have I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You on a CD compilation - Highs Of The 70's. Great vocals by Alan Clarke on Breakdown.
Faves : Don't Let it Show , Breakdown , I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You and Day After Day (The Show Must Go On).

I'm only familiar with "Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" and "Nucleus" but I love them both. I have a hits compliation of theirs and it's a great cd.

Honestly, I wasn't into Alan Parsons until the '80 release "Turn of a Friendly Card", and then just a modest fan. And "Eye in the Sky" has always stood as a fave of mine as well. But not until 1998 did I get a 2-CD compilation, and fell right in LOVE with it, and had to investigate further. Turned out I LOVE their entire output, no matter how popular it became, from 1976-1993. And now the Project is SOLIDLY one of my fave groups now. Though not too highbrow from the critics, to me, they are reminiscent of Moody Blues, and both should be in due course for the Hall. Now I like "I Robot" second only to "Sky" as my fave album of them, and it's perfect from start to finish. And right now, (haha) one of my fave songs is "Don't let it show", and now I'm practically PERPLEXED why this fine masterpiece couldn't even get above #92. The song starts with a stately cathedral organ, a smooth vocal by Dave Townsend, a slight instrumental buildup with piano, synth, and bass, and man, does that off-tempo ending cook! GREAT guitar and strings in it! Overall, just a PERFECT tune. But it is not in the LEAST to count out the medley of "I robot" (such a WAY COOL synth masterpiece reminiscent of Krafwerk) seguing into "I wouldn't want to be like you" (Disco, anyone?) An "Breakdown" with the Hollies' Allan Clarke is superfine, along with the gems of "Nucleus" and"Genesis". And the remaining 3 are great, especially "Day after day". Too bad critics don't praise their work more highly. A real gem, a ground-breaker.

Good stuff. I'm completely with you on 'Wouldn't' - what an awesome song that is! I first heard it on a Ronco compilation album I bought about 9 years ago, and was I ever impressed! And you are absolutely correct about 'Couldn't Get It Right' - those two songs are very similar in style. I found some Alan Parsons LPs at a church rummage sale last year - this one, Eve, The Turn of a Friendly Card, and Eye in the Sky - I think they were either 25 or 50 cents each! I was pretty happy with that find!

Does the compilation you have include 'The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether'? I've always been curious about that song!

I first got acquainted with this group's work when 'Games People Play' was released, although I vaguely remember hearing 'Damned If I Do' before that. Like you, I don't think this group gets the respect they deserve. Their songs were always sophisticated and expertly produced, and I agree, their style is very similar to the Moodies', another group I really enjoy.
