I guess because none of these singles were big hits, I was never really familiar with this album. Actually, I know the same amount of bonus tracks as I do the main album! LOL!
I have seen the video to Getting Closer in the past. Probably the only rock song to mention a salamander! And I was actually more familiar with the live version of Rochestra better, but they sound so much alike. And of course now I know the studio version from Wingspan.
Wingspan is also where I first heard Daytime Nightime Suffering. Good tune. Of course I grew up with Wonderful Christmastime, and it is one of my very top Christmas songs. Surprised Daytime's A side, Goodnight Tonight isn't offered as a bonus cut, unless Sir Paul figured being on All the Best was good enough.
Good stuff on here.

Hey Dawn:) Even though I've never owned the album , my brother had the 45 of Getting Closer which I now have.I always thought it was such a great tune yet it was overlooked on both the All The Best and Wingspan Discs. Spin it on is on the b - side which I also kind of liked.
I was familiar with the title of Daytime Nightime Suffering but had never heard it, so I was happy it was included on the Wingspan collection.
Wonderful Christmastime has always been a holiday fave - I have it on a mix tape of Christmas tunes.
Faves- Spin it On, Getting Closer , Arrow Through Me , Rockestra Theme and Daytime Nightime Suffering.

My personal favorite Wings album. I went through my big Wings phase in 1984, but somehow I missed this album. I didn't buy it until I got the CD in 1991. When I put it in, I hit the shuffle button for some reason. It went straight to "So Glad To See You Here". I was like "WOW!!!! What a rockin' track!!" So I played the whole thing and was totally blown away! I can do without "Spin It On" and "The Broadcast", but there are some REAL gems here otherwise. "To You" "Winter Rose/Love Awake", "Old Siam, Sir"...... Forget what the stupid critics said, this is one GREAT album!!!!!

Have this CD! VERY overlooked. It was said "Goodnight tonight" was left off the album (I have the long 12" mix anyway) because its disco sound wouldn't match with the rest of the album. "Getting closer" rocks almost as great as "Junior's Farm" and "Jet", the 2 Xmas songs, especially "Wonderful Xmastime" are terrific. And lastly, "Arrow through me" was Paul's most overlooked top 40 hit. One of my faves of all--look for it in my 70's Battle of the Hits!

Who cares what the critics think. This is a great album. I have it on vinyl, so I don't have the bonus tracks, but I'm of course familar with Wonderful Christmastime. Getting Closer is my fave along with After The Ball/Million Miles, Winter Rose/Love Awake, Baby's Request and Again And Again.

I remember reading that 'Daytime Nightime Suffering' was Paul and Linda's favorite of all their songs, and I'm glad he decided to include it on Wingspan. If I recall correctly, I think 'Wonderful Christmastime' ranked VERY high on your INSANE list!

It really should have been included on Wingspan, along with 'Arrow Through Me', especially since both of those were left off All the Best. 'Wonderful Christmastime' is one of my favorite holiday songs also!

I agree, Pete, there are some real winners on this album, and I've never understood why it's been so maligned by the music critics. I love the overall sound of this album - very polished and sophisticated. I have this on LP, but I'd like to get it on CD one of these days.

That makes sense about 'Goodnight Tonight' - I was wondering about that. I agree, 'Getting Closer' is a great rocker, and I can't understand why it doesn't get more play on the classic rock stations. I absolutely love 'Arrow Through Me' - it's one of my faves as well!

I'm with you, JP - I've never agreed with the critics on this one either. Like you, I have the LP, but I'd love to get the bonus tracks - I've never heard 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reggae'. 'Getting Closer' is wonderful, but very overlooked these days, unfortunately.

This is an excellent, and very much overlooked, album by Wings. It didn't spawn any huge megahits so most people didn't pay it much attention.I had it on record a long time ago and my twin and I pretty much wore it out.Great choice,Dawn, and thanks for remembering it.

You're very welcome, beatles4 - I'm glad that JP reminded me about this one. You are so right about this album being overlooked, which is a shame, because there are some excellent songs on it.
