These English versions were so much better than the American versions!
I don't like the early stuff as much as the middle Rubber Soul-Revolver period, but these are still CLASSICS.
Faves-It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, Hold Me Tight, Please Mr. Postman.
Not a CD I listen to much, but glad I have it!

Once again I love every tune! Here in Canada we had the same version that was released in the U.K.
I listened to this so much when I was a kid . So happy to have it on disc. A great mix of Lennon / McCartney classics and well chosen covers and we can't forget George's first songwriting effort Don't Bother Me. I never hear Little Child on the radio which is a real shame.
Faves - All of them

Too early and too dependent on others' songs to be one of their greats, but there's signs of what's to come. I love "Don't Bother Me"! (early George Harrison, already doing good songs). And "All My Loving" and "It Won't Be Long" are close behind.

Having grown up with "Meet The Beatles", it's odd not having "Not A Second Time" as the closer. I never expect to hear another song after it, so "Money" is always a surprise!

Lots of good ones on this album, though. 'It Won't Be Long' is one of my favorite early Beatles tracks. I remember hearing it for the first time in Compleat!

I was in a record store in Windsor, Ontario, in July 1989, and I remember they had some American versions of LPs, and some British, but I also recall seeing some albums with jacket designs that were different from either of those. I'm not sure if they were reissues or completely different compilations.

And "All My Loving" and "It Won't Be Long" are close behind. I've read that George grew to dislike 'Don't Bother Me' in the years after it was recorded, but like you, I think it's a great song! 'All My Loving' and 'It Won't Be Long' are wonderful also.

I know what you mean, Pete - I'm still more used to the Meet the Beatles song sequence also. 'Money' is a great closer, though!

Hey Dawn Yes there were two collections specifically marketed for us both released in 1964. 1.Twist and Shout (Feb '64) This has the same track listing as the UK Please Please Me album - minus I Saw Her Standing There - instead of this , they included She Loves You. 2.Long Tall Sally (May '64) This has exactly the same cover art (front and back) as The Beatles Second Album Here is the track listing: Side 1 I Want To Hold Your Hand I Saw Her Standing There You Really Got a Hold On Me Devil in Her Heart Roll Over Beethoven Misery Side 2 Long Tall Sally I Call your Name Please Mister Postman This Boy I'll Get You You Can't Do That Oh BTW - The Canadian version of With The Beatles was titled Beatlemania! With The Beatles.

I wish now I'd bought a few of those LPs - that was just before the record labels started phasing them out, I think.

The music speaks for itself! The only track I don't really know is "All I've Got To Do." The rest is... well... BRILLIANT!
