The first time I ever saw this album was my stepmother's copy when she and my dad were dating. And to this day, I have never seen the movie all the way through! In grade school, we had to do a report like twice a year in music class. And the teacher TOLD us he wanted us to just copy liner notes on an album! He said, "I do NOT want you to summarize, just copy"! I guess he just wanted the discipline, I don't know. Anyway, lots of classics here, so overplayed. Like Runaway by Del. Little Darlin' and Peppermint Twist are both great as well. My overall fave here is All Summer Long. LOVE that tune! Great album for someone that just wants to get introduced to oldies.

So many incredible tunes on one album! - I 'm trying to remember what was first hearing the soundtrack or seeing the movie? I think I heard the music first.
The daughter that lived next door to us had a copy and played it often. I saw the movie as part of a double feature along with Jesus Christ Superstar (wow!) . This was my first exposure( although I had heard Rock around The Clock before) to music of the 50's and early 60's and loved it.
Faves include - Almost Grown , Rock Around The Clock , Green Onions (Love Booker T!! - we even played this for a short while in stage band) ,Runaway, That'll Be The Day , All Summer Long , Smoke Get's in Your Eyes, Little Darlin' etc etc.

Although I am not a fan of "pre-Beatles era" oldies, this is an excellent collection for someone looking to get into this era of music.
Of course, you get two Beach Boys tunes, so that's cool!

Hi Dawn
This is (imo) the greatest soundtrack ever. It helps that it is also one of the best movies ever. Every song is a winner and there is such a great mix of music styles. Three songs from the Platters, two from the Beach Boys, and a couple from Buddy Holly. Lots of doo-wop, early rock & roll, dance songs, just a little bit of everything. It's fun to watch the movie and see how the music interacts with whatever scene happens to be on the screen. Some are really funny. Remember seeing the movie in 1974 and then going out cruisin' afterwards with this cassette blasting through the car speakers (the car we were riding in was a 50s era Buick). Really hate to hear the last 4 or 5 songs, because then I know the movie is almost over. Hard not to be happy listening to these oldies. And the Wolfman is an extra added bonus. Great, Great Album. One of the best ever.

I'm with Dodger. I think this is the best soundtrack album ever made. Great movie, great music and the great Wolfman Jack all add up to an unbeatable combination. And I love the artwork on the cover, too. Here's a link to more about the movie and about Mel's Drive In: www.melsdrive-in.com/graffiti.html

I've seen parts of the movie, but like you, I don't think I've ever seen it completely through. I'll have to check it out one of these days. That does sound like an unusual assignment! 'All Summer Long' is a great song. The Beach Boys' harmonies are outstanding on that one.

That's cool that you got to play it in stage band! 'Rock Around the Clock' is one of the first songs from the 50's that I remember hearing. A classic!

I agree, Pete. Some of the finest songs from the early rock era are on this album, including both of the Beach Boys tracks.

One of the best ever. This was a great suggestion, dodger! As you say, there's a really good mix of early styles here. From what I know about that era of music, I'd say these selections are pretty representative of the music of the day, and a good accompaniment to the storyline of the movie.

As I mentioned in my reply to Sat, I don't think I've ever seen the movie all the way through, but the parts I've seen were enjoyable to watch. It's definitely a classic!
