Several of these tracks are on the Very Best of compilation I have (the newer 20 track collection), but none of the actual tunes come to mind. Other than White Room, of course.
I'll have to listen to some of them more.

Good one! I have the same CD compilation that Adam does. I found a copy on vinyl back in the 80's - the record collection was really growing back then. White Room was the first song I heard when I was very young we had the 45 in the house - the addition of the tympani was a nice touch.
Faves - Sitting On Top of the World , Politician ,White Room, Those Were The Days , Born Under a Bad Sign , Deserted Cities of The Heart , Crossroads , Spoonful and Toad.

Hi Dawn - Great choice. Cream is one of my all - time favorite groups (must be the Clapton conection). I've got this on cassette. Two of their three top 40s came from this album, and at least four songs are on their Best Of CD. This, despite, the two top 40s, was not a top 40 driven album (seems like none of their albums really were). I would listen to the FM stations of the day play the entire 1st side of one of the LPs (think this was a double vinyl). That was the best way to here this album. Probably their best effort together. Favorites: White Room, Crossroads, Spoonful, Born Under a Bad Sign, Passing the Time, Those Were The Days, Traintime, Toad, & Sitting on Top of The World.

I'll have to listen to some of them more. I have their Strange Brew compilation on cassette, but I’d really like to update to a CD compilation sometime. ‘White Room’ is one of their best songs, IMO – love the guitar work on it!

I first heard ‘White Room’ back in the late 80’s, and loved it immediately. It and ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ are probably my favorite Cream songs. ‘Crossroads’ is another good one – I’ve started to hear it more and more on the classic rock stations here.

Yes, this was originally a double album from what I understand. You make a good point about their albums not being top 40 driven – they definitely seem as though they were aimed more at the FM audience. Eric Clapton is a tremendously gifted guitarist, and his late 60’s work in particular sounded years ahead of its time, IMO.

Nothing better to do tonight than go back and dig up ancient posts....
I love Cream, I grew up with "Disreili Gears" and had the 45 of "White Room/Those Were The Days". I didn't get "Wheels Of Fire" until I was a senior in High School. I picked up the tape, then a year or so later I found an original ATCO album (with the pink and tan label).
Recently, I got "Cream: Gold" from the library, which has all but three of the cuts here.
I have really gotten into "Deserted Cities Of The Heart" in recent years.
