Woo Hoo! - This has always been one of my favorite album from Elton. Many of the songs are autobiographical dealing with the struggling songwriter. I remember being in the record department of one of the store's where my parents shopped all the time and I knew the lady who worked there. I was trying to decide what album to buy and she told me his new record had just arrived so I bought it right away This was the last album to include Nigel Olssen and Dee Murray who left sometime afterwards. Their playing on the album is amazing and I LOVE Ray Cooper's playing so much, he always used such a wide range of percussion. I had two copies on vinyl in the 70's I wore out the first one LOL. I have an earlier remastered version on CD without the bonus tracks. Faves - Captain Fantasic , (Gotta Get) A Meal Ticket - a great rocker , Tell Me When The Whistle Blows , Writing , We All Fall in Love Sometimes , Tower Of Babel , Someone Saved My Life Tonight and Bitter Fingers.

Good choice! Basically for Lucy being on this new version, I would probably get it soon (I played "Meal ticket" a few times in college, and I don't want another EJ compilation! (Lucy is not on his recent 2-CD compilation) Plus "Philadelphia freedom" is my ALL-TIME fave of his; the version on most compilations fades out too soon at about exactly 45 minutes; the single had at least another 30 seconds at the end (It's on "Billboard Top Hits 1975", and maybe it will be on this album too). Could do without "Saved", though. Plus it was the first album in Billboard history to debut @ #1.

On the original album, all I know is Someone Saved My Life Tonight. Nothing else ever gets any airplay around here at all. Good song though.
Bonus cuts-Philadelphia Freedom is one of my fave Elton tracks, especially of his big singles. Always liked it.
Lucy in the Sky is a decent cover, I suppose, nowhere NEAR the original though.

I don't own this album yet, but I've always heard very good things about it, and will have to check it out soon. That was definitely a peak period for Elton! I've always liked Nigel Olssen's work also.

I've been wanting to get some of his work on CD, and thought I'd start with a greatest hits compilation, but I think I'll probably go with Vols. 1, 2 & 3 instead. 'Philadelphia Freedom' is my all-time fave of his as well!

I don't hear many of the album cuts on the stations here either, unfortunately. But I agree, 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight' is a really good, classic tune. I was surprised to learn that 'Lucy' and 'Philadelphia Freedom' were originally available only as singles - I hadn't known that.
