Today, my oldest brother R.J. is 42 today.
The album I'm going to feature is...
Down Two, Then Left-Boz Scaggs
If you like Boz with a Steely Dan twist, I STRONGLY recommend this. Toto members Jeff Porcaro and Steve Lukather are on here, as is Ray Parker Jr., and dynamite writers/producers Michael Omartian and Jay Graydon.
The tracks:
1. Still Waiting For You
2. Hard Times
3. A Clue
4. Whatcha Gonna Tell Your Man
5. We're Waiting
6. Hollywood
7. Then She Walked Away
8. Gimme the Goods
9. 1993
10. Tomorrow Never Came
11. Tomorrow Never Came (reprise)
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Still Falling For You--Nice, somewhat uptempo tune. Great vocal backing from the Honey Cone's Carolyn Willis (also did the honors on Seals & Crofts' "Get Closer").
2. Hard Times--Groovy, somewhat slow song. One of the 2 minor hits from the album. Among the 3 distinct background vocalists ("I am falling") is Jim Gilstrap, a much-in-demand session singer who had a GREAT 1975 tune with "Swing Your Daddy".
3. A Clue--Quite reminiscent of the later "What you won't do for love". Steve Lukather does the cool guitar solo.
4. Whatcha Gonna Tell Your Man--Another fine midtempo winner! Carolyn sings on the verses, a great guitar solo from Boz, and Kai's son Jai Winding (also played on the Xanadu soundtrack) does the excellent keyboards.
5. We're Waiting--More assistance from Carolyn. Nice slow jam.
6. Hollywood--WOO HOO! What a song! Definitely should have hit top 40; about a woman who's ready to hit the big time, baring all and receiving five stars. Easily my fave on the album, Carolyn along with Myrna Matthews and Julia Tillman Waters (she's featured on MANY albums I own) sing the addictable refrain "Hollywood, action, do it again", Ray Parker Jr. on a GROOVY bass-ish guitar, and veteran Victor Feldman doing the vibraphone. I could listen to this all day.
7. Then She Walked Away--Great midtempo tune. Worth its weight on the album.
8. Gimme the Goods--another groovy selection, you can tell it's a Toto-related tune with Jeff on percussion (timbalers specifically), and Steve doing th guitar solo.
9. 1993--Don't pass this one up if you like "Lido Shuffle"! Like its title might indicate, a rather futuristic song. This might even pack some dance floors!
10. Tomorrow never came--The "reprise" is practically the whole song, with a lead-in synth intro. Somber selection which is perfect for candlelight dining. Typical to easy listening station material.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, opinions, backlashes, praises, and even your own reviews of this fine album!
