I know I'm a little early, but it turns out I'm going to be busy tomorrow.
Anyway, today's album is:
The Police- "Synchronicity"
released in 1983
First off, I think that Stewart Copeland could be one the best drummers of the last twenty years. I would put him up there with Keith Moon, Neil Pert, and John Bonham. The rhythms that Copeland incorporates into the Police's music is completely phenomenal. Sting has one of the most recognizable and incredible voices in rock and pop, and continues to write great music. But Sting is often overlooked as a great bass player as well. If you didn't already know, Andy Summers can do just about anything with a guitar.
I can't believe this album is 20 years old! One of my favorite albums od the 80's. The Police broke up shortly after the release of "Synchronicity'. It seems weird that a band would part after such a stunning success, but in this case, The Police truly went out on top. "Synchronicity" was #1 for seventeen weeks during the summer of 1983. The album had the distinction of dethroning freak boy, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album.
Every song on the album is good. Except for "Mother"...sung by the band's guitarist Andy Summers. It baffles me why The Police chose to include this song on the album. It doesn't match the feel the whole album. This track is nearly unlistenable. Stewart Copeland's "Mrs. Gradenko" is not nearly as irritating as the Summers composition, but it is slight and follows directly after "Mother" on the album.
The best-known song off this album...in fact, it's probably the best-known Police song period. "Every Breath You Take". A song that on the surface appears to be a sweet love song, but is actually about a demented stalker. The song was later sampled to death by Puff Daddy (or P Diddy or Diddly Squat or whatever he calls himself today).
My favorite songs are; "Synchronicity 2", "King Of Pain", and "Wrapped Around Your Finger". "Synchronicity" is one of those albums that never gets old no matter how many times I listen to it.
The tracks:
1. Synchronicity I
2. Walking In Your Footsteps
3. O My God
4. Mother
5. Miss Gradenko
6. Synchronicity II
7. Every Breath You Take
8. King Of Pain
9. Wrapped Around Your Finger
10. Tea In The Sahara
11. Murder By Numbers
