Not only is this one of my very favorite albums by the guys but it's also one of my faves of ' 79. I heard it alot around the house at the time because both my brother's bought copies. It was among the first CD's I bought in the late 80's - I bought it used.
The album is filled with one great rocker after another - with catchy guitar riffs aplenty with only one ballad included.
Dirty White Boy - The first tune I heard from the album and remember taking a trip on the bus with a buddy record shopping and buying this 45 back in the day.
BTW - the single version fades while the LP version ends with a great scream by Lou.
Love on The Telephone - Nice synth / piano intro. Cool harmonies as well. Powerful drumming and some killer guitar by Mick.
Women - The rhythm section really locks in. Great driving piano underneath helping the tune along. This is a real fave of mine.
I'll Get Even With You - Some really nice guitar at the beginning as well as throughout the duration of the tune. Nice drumming too - love those little drum fills Dennis does after each run through of the chorus.
Seventeen - This is obviously not the same tune done by Winger. The song kicks off nicely with some very catchy drum / guitar / bass work that just makes you want to crank it up and bother your neighbors - LOL.
Head Games - Lou continues his amazing vocal abilities. A very cool tune about relationships.
The Modern Day - Love the guitar and drum work on this song. Another of my big faves. I loved it so much that back in '80 when I started to compile mix tapes from records, I included this on the second one I ever did - and I still have it.
Blinded By Science - The albums "big power ballad" . You can really feel the emotion in Lou's voice - very meaningful lyrics - and very nice harmonies.
Do What You Like - I really like the stereo separation on the acoustic guitars on the intro. And another top notch album cut that the classic rock stations really should start playing. Nice Beatley harmonies.
Rev On The Red Line - A tune that just seems to get better with each listen. Nice blend of synth and guitar that compliment each other and don't overshadow one bit . A fine closing track to the record.
Well there it is - my album review - hope you enjoyed it!
