This one's for you Adam!
Whitney Houston
My Love Is Your Love
1998
In general, I like Whitney's older work - you know, before she was a crackwh*re. This album was really Whitney's first time stepping into the world of hip hop, aside from her professional (and personal) collaborations with hubby Bobby Brown.
1. It's Not Right But It's Okay
Great hip hop-tinged track. This is really great to dance to, and Whitney's vocals are great. You know, she's kinda like Michael Jackson - in spite of all the crazy stuff, the talent's still there.
2. Heartbreak Hotel featuring Faith Evans and Kelly Price
NOT the Elvis song, so don't get in a tizzy! This song is great. I love the beat and the lyrics both.
3. My Love Is Your Love
This title track is another winner with a little well-implemented Christian lyrics. Listen for Whitney's daughter here.
4. When You Believe duet with Mariah Carey
Absolutely beautiful song, although there's this one section in Mariah's vocals where I can't tell a thing she's singing due to her, um, vocalizing.
5. If I Told You That
Love this one too. The lyrics are really relatable for me. Here's a sampling: "Now tell me how you'd feel/ if I told you that I/ have feelings for you." "I know that we're just friends/but what if I decide/ to bring something in." Yeah, I was in love with my best friend for four years, if that tell you anything...
6. In My Business featuring Missy Elliott
This song's pretty much all about fans gettin' up in Whitney's biz-nas. Interesting, huh?
7. I Learned From The Best
Hands down, the best song on this album. More lyrics about heartbreak that really hit home for me, and some of Whitney's best vocals ever.
8. Oh Yes
Moaning, senseless blather. The only song here that I actually hate.
9. Get It Back
Not bad, but from the previous track on, the album starts to slowly spiral downward.
10. Until You Come Back
Decent ballad.
11. I Bow Out
One of the better songs on the second half of this album. It's about a hurtful relationship that's Whitney's finally fed up with. She needs to take a lesson from her own lyrics, doesn't she?
12. You'll Never Stand Alone
I have pretty much the same take on this one as track 10 - decent, but nothing special.
13. I Was Made To Love Him
This is sort of a bonus track. The CD booklet was printed before the album was completed, and this song was added at the last minute. This one's a testament of Whitney's love for Bobby - yuk!
