All Saints
All Saints
1998
This British girl group was no second coming of the Spice Girls, that's for sure. But their self-titled debut did produce an exceptional pop hit and some likeable dance tunes. Let's begin.
1. Never Ever
This is the pop hit I mentioned. I'm sure you heard it way back in '98. I mean, the song was everywhere! It's a good song, though, that would lead one to believe that the group had potential.
2. Bootie Call
Light dance tune with a steady R&B rhythm. The quality is really only fair, but I like this song.
3. I Know Where It's At
This is the third-best song on this album. Good beat. Makes you want to grab a hairbrush and sing seductively into the mirror. Hey, at a drunken party, this tactic might actually get you some action.
4. Under The Bridge
I absolutely hate this song - as done by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This cover is actually quite good, putting an R&B/pop twist on the lame rock original.
5. Heaven
Nice beat, but this is a passable song.
6. Alone
Not bad, not great. Again, it's the beat that does it. The bass (synthesized, obviously - like I are) line is what makes this album so good.
7. If You Want To Party (I Found Lovin')
The best song on this album! Great beat, cool vibe, love the quirky rap.
8. Trapped
I was sold on the rhythm already, but after giving it another listen the lyrics aren't bad either. And one of the girls actually has a really good voice, which shines here.
9. Beg
Seriously, take this album to a dance party and you are set!
10. Lady Marmalade
All Saints did this song without overdoing it, like a few people (i.e. Christina, Pink, Mya, Lil' Kim). Anyway, I like it. They really don't have great voices but still fairly pleasing to listen to.
11. Take The Key
I really don't care for this one. Good rhythm, but that's really it here.
12. War of Nerves
This song has a nice piano part in the beginning, but after that it sort of falls apart.
Can you tell I'm running out of albums to review?
