Patsy Cline
12 Greatest Hits
Originally released 1967, remastered 2003
1. Walkin' After Midnight
This has always been a favorite of mine for many reasons. First off, the Jordanaires always provide excellent background vocals. Two, Patsy Cline's voice is the perfect combination of country and blues and it fits the song so well. Thirdly, I just love the lyrics.
2. Sweet Dreams (Of You)
I had never heard anything but the first three or four lines of this song before hearing it here. Quite frankly, I like it better than I thought I would, if that makes any sense.
3. Crazy
THE Patsy Cline song. If you never hear another Patsy Cline song in your life, this one will suffice. I still can't believe I love a song that Willie Nelson wrote. Hell, who cares? This is a superb song. Patsy's voice is aching.
4. I Fall To Pieces
Another great one. I especially like the lyrics because they hit home for me. Don't you just hate it when a song does that?!
5. So Wrong
A woman admitting she's wrong is always a difficult experience. Trust me - I am never wrong. If I am (and that's a big if), good luck getting me to admit it.
6. Strange
Another excellent vocal performance by Patsy. Again, love the Jordanaires.
7. Back In Baby's Arms
Cute song! Love it. It's just my style.
8. She's Got You
Gorgeous. My favorite part is Patsy's pause on the line, "I've got your memory/Or has it got me". Further proof that she is one of the greatest interpreters of songs.
9. Faded Love
One of the less-great tunes here, IMO, but Patsy does a wonderful job.
10. Why Can't He Be You
There's always that one love that it seems to take forever to get over. Everyone you're with from then on lives in comparison with that person, until you finally find someone to break through that barrier and make you forget your old love. Obviously, Patsy has not reached that point in this song. Nor have I. Nor have I...
11. You're Stronger Than Me
This one goes with Faded Love, if you ask me. But I must reiterate, both songs are good. Just not great, like the others.
12. Leavin' On Your Mind
Love the bluesy-sounding piano. This song has fabulous lyrics and Patsy's phrasing is absolutely stunning. At the end of this song, I often start this CD all over again. There's just such a wonderful flow between all of these songs.
Now it's your turn.
