As some of you know, I'm a big Melissa Etheridge fan, so I thought I'd review her latest album, "Lucky", released just last month.
Here goes:
Melissa Etheridge, "Lucky".
1. Lucky--I really like this tune. Upbeat and catchy, with optimistic lyrics.
2. This Moment--Another good song. Melissa sounds very passionate on this one, like she's really feeling the lyrics she's singing. Not that she doesn't on other songs, but...you get my drift. LOL!
3. If You Want To--A rocker. A twist on the "will you call me after the first date" type thing, told from Melissa's point of view. "So now I've called. Yes it's been a couple days. Ok, seven. This I know. But I've been moving kinda slow. So I called. It must be so appalling if you think that I've been stalling. This is me now I am calling." Etc.
4. Breathe--The first single from the CD. And one that Melissa herself didn't write, which is unusual. Decent tune. A good choice for a single. Catchy.
5. Mercy--Not a bad song, but the title's repeated just a little too much for me.
6. Secret Agent--Another rocker. The lyrics are a little cryptic, so I haven't exactly figured out what it's all about. I'll have to listen more closely.
7. Will You Still Love Me--I take this song to be about someone who's having doubts about their relationship. Not a bad song, but not a favorite, either.
8. Meet Me In the Dark--Great song about being gay in a small town with prying eyes and eavesdropping ears, and having to hide emotions and feelings, and ultimately choosing whether to live life that way, or standing up for yourself and not being ashamed of who you are. I read an article about Melissa and she talked about this song being the most autobiographical one on the album.
9. Tuesday Morning--Excellent song, and one that makes you think. It's about Mark Bingham, a gay man who was on the airplane that crashed in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001, and his heroic efforts to stop the terrorists from carrying out their mission. I get a little teary eyed whenever I hear this one.
10. Giant--A good song with a positive message. Another "be proud of who you are" song.
11. Come on Out Tonight--Fun, tongue in cheek, play on words type song. Melissa sounds like she's having fun with this.
12. Kiss Me--Another fun song. Sexy lyrics, and it rocks.
13. When You Find the One--A ballad about relationships, and how you have to "open a lot of oysters before you find the pearl", but once you find "the one" it's all worth it. Good tune.
