Tina Turner
Simply The Best
1991
A lot of my favorite Tina songs came after the release of this compilation, so I'm a little disappointed. But it's not a bad collection.
1. The Best
One of my favorite songs of Tina's. Everything on the track just really pulls together and her vocals are great.
2. Better Be Good To Me
This one is mediocre. The drums are really cool and the chorus sounds great, but the verses are just sour. That's the only word I can think of to describe it.
3. I Can't Stand The Rain
By far, the best version I've heard of this song. I can actually sit and listen to it. Other times it's really annoying and, well, just bad.
4. What's Love Got To Do With It
A lot of people would say this is overplayed, but I have never gotten tired of it yet. Love the keyboards in this and Tina's vocals are great. And of course there's the lyrics...
5. I Don't Wanna Lose You
Very good. The lyrics are excellent and I love the saxophone.
6. Nutbush City Limits (The 90's Version)
I've never even heard the 60's version. I've got a feeling I would like it better. This one is a dance mix. Ew.
7. What You Get Is What You See
This first verse totally rocks. I love it.
8. Let's Stay Together
Interesting take on the Al Green classic.
9. River Deep - Mountain High
Even though this song is good, this recording is a little rough around the edges.
10. Steamy Windows
Excellent bass and drums on this song. Like it.
11. Typical Male
From the song title, I would've thought this was a song of female empowerment and independence. Damn it! It's not. I'd like it a lot better if it were, but the song itself is decent.
12. We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)
Another favorite of mine. And no, I never saw the movie.
13. Private Dancer
I had a friend in middle school who used to do an impression of Tina Turner singing this song. It was so hilarious...
14. Look Me In The Heart
A little repetitive.
15. It Takes Two duet with Rod Stewart
I was hoping Hot Legs would be on here! But this is a decent substitute.
16. I Want You Near Me
One of the weakest songs on here. It just doesn't do much for me.
17. Way Of The World
The lyrics of this are a lot like the previous song. I don't care much for this one either.
18. Love Thing
Excellent guitar on this song, but that's about the best thing on this track.
