Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True
Elvis' debut album, released in November, 1977. When my mom first played this, I was like: "Wow, this guy looks like a nerd, but he sounds pretty cool!" I soon became a fan. It's a good idea to read the lyrics while you play it, because I found it hard to understand what Elvis says sometimes. The CD's been rereleased with a 2nd bonus disc. Here are the tracks of the original album only:
1. Welcome To The Working Week - First song is like a short intro to the show. Has a fast beat, as Elvis shouts out the lyrics:
Welcome to the working week... oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill ya!
An abrupt ending, then switches to...
2. Miracle Man - Same key as track 1. Hard pounding drums, and cool guitar.
Why do you have to say that there's alway's someone who can do it better than I can? Don'tcha think that I know that walking on the water won't make me a miracle man?
3. No Dancing - Very catchy. Makes you want to dance, even though...
There's gonna be no dancing when they get home
You can only imagine what they're gonna do when they get there.
4. Blame It On Cain - Another catchy one. The first of several songs here in the key of "G."
Blame it on Cain, don't blame it on me. Oh, oh, it's... nobody's fault, but we need somebody to burn
5. Alison - Only slow ballad of the album. This became an underground hit.
Alison... I know this world is killing you, oh, Alison... my aim is true
6. Sneaky Feelings - 2nd "key of G" track, and another short song. I like the rhythm.
We could sit like lovers, staring in each other's eyes, but the magic of the moment might become too much for you
7. (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes - My fave track. I don't know if this was a single, but it's got "hit" written all over it.
I used to be disgusted... and now I try to be amused... but since their wings have got rusted... you know the angels wanna wear my red shoes
8. Less Than Zero - I think this was his first single. I like it, but it's the weakest of the tracks.
Turn up the TV, no one listening will suspect, even your mother won't detect it, no your father won't know... They think that I've got no respect, but... everything means less than zero
9. Mystery Dance - Another "shortie." Key of "G" again. Has a good, fast, rockabilly beat.
Romeo was restless he was ready to kill... he jumped out the window 'cause he couldn't sit still... Juliet was waiting with a safety net, he said "Don't bury me 'cause I'm not dead yet"
10. Pay It Back - 4th "key of G" song. I love the drums.
I wouldn't say that I was raised on romance. Let's not get stuck in the past. I love you more than everything in the world... I don't expect that will last
11. I'm Not Angry - This one has a mean heart-pounding beat to it.
I could hear you whispering as I crept by your door, so you found some other joker who could please you more
12. Waiting For The End Of The World - Last of the "key of G" tracks. And more pounding drums! It rocks, and the lyrics are dark.
You may see them drowning as you stroll along the beach, but don't throw out the lifeline till they're... clean out of reach
13. Watching The Detectives - Has a sinister sound. I like the keyboards on this. On the vinyl record, this was the last song on side 1, after "Sneaky Feelings." I don't know why they moved it to the end of the CD.
The detectives come to check if you belong to the parents, who are ready to hear the worst about their daughter's disappearance
