Released - 1976
Label - Vertigo / Polygram
Produced by - John Alcock
Peak position - #18
Singles released - Cowboy (#77 - 1976)
The Boys Are Back In Town (#12 - 1976)
This was a big album in my house growing up - my middle brother had the 8 track and I remember as a kid being in his car listening to it with a buddy of his back then at what seemed like full volume LOL.
I remember him telling me that he saw them on this tour and that it was LOUD and an excellent concert. I also remember a buddy having the Ktel LP Hit Machine which included The Boys Are Back in Town. I got my CD copy of this sometime in the early 90's
1.Jailbreak - What a way to kick off an album - a very catchy riff that the bass and guitars play in unison. Punchy, tight drumming, the siren sound effects which pan from left to right in the stereo mix really add alot to the song . Great vocal by Phil Lynott.
2.Angel From The Coast - The dual guitar work of Scott
Gorhman and Brian Robertson is amazing throughout the album but on this track is especially brilliant - they really compliment each other.
3.Running Back - A song about a guy who loses his girlfriend but would come "running back" to her at a moments notice. Saxaphone is heard early in the track and fits in nicely - handclaps are also heard.
4.Romeo And The Lonely Girl - A funky cool little tune. Nice drumming as well.
5.Warrior - Some nice drumming , bass and guitar work on the intro tie it all together. Some echo delay on the vocals is a great touch. Nice wah - wah effect on the guitar solo .A great heavy rock tune.
6. The Boys Are Back In Town - The tune that everybody knows and is a staple of Classic Rock radio. It doesn't matter how many times I hear this I never ever get tired of it . It's a shame they were never able to follow it up with another hit but they really did have many other fine tunes including those found on this album.
7.Fight or Fall - Phil could write some very nice ballads and this is one of them. Very well done.
8.Cowboy Song - I Love the build up of this song with guitar , Phil's vocal and some distant harmonica on the introduction, slowly building with drums and second guitar then the band kicks in and rocks out! - I absolutely love the rhythm guitar on this song
9.Emerald - What a tune! - this song has such a great feel - great lyrics as well , and a super way to close a truly fine 70's classic.
