This may have been posted elsewhere and I'm just not seeing it (entirely possible since I haven't had any time to really enjoy this site lately), but have any of you been watching this amazing series on VH1? The premise is that the host (Aamer Haleem) has 1 week to travel around the country/world trying to get together the original members of a particular band for a reunion to talk about old times and try to get them to rehearse and perform for a one-off gig for fans etc. This first installment (they've hinted that there'll be more) featured 10 bands from the 80s over a 2 week period: Berlin Romeo Void A Flock of Seagulls Klymaxx Frankie Goes To Hollywood Kajagoogoo Extreme Dramarama The Alarm Squeeze Every single show has been engaging and fascinating, even the slightly disappointing ones where the bands don't get together or don't perform. I am completely hooked! It doesn't hurt that in this first line-up they featured some of my favorite bands from my teenage years: The Alarm, Squeeze, Romeo Void, Kajagoogoo But even the bands that I wasn't a fan of had fascinating stories. I highly reccomend all of the shows if you can catch them in repeats.

You know what, I didn't watch any of them, but my dad, my 58 year old dad did! Almost every night he called me, yelling that I should be watching! LOL!
If there was a band I absolutely LOVED, I woulda watched. But like you said, it's gotta be interesting to see it in general.
You know VH-1 will rerun it 8736 times, so I'll catch em again.
Any bad feelings between the bandmates?

I only saw the one on Extreme. But they didn't re-unite, so that's kind of misleading. They are only *attempting* to get the bands back together. I would have liked to see Extreme play again, but Nuno was such an ass hole! (Not surprising, he always WAS!)
Also, I never knew Squeeze broke up. I knew that they worked right up through the 90's. The other bands are all bands that I liked one or two songs by (which I usually played a lot in the club), but were a never die-hard fan of.

I have a newspaper clipping from the mid 90's about Squeeze "getting back together", and that was with the Paul Carrack lineup.

Re: Squeeze VH1's concept is that they attempt to bring together the "original lineup" for a band which because Squeeze has had so many, was kind of interesting. You're correct that Squeeze (or a version of them) is still performing.
Re: Extreme Of the 10 shows, there were 3 groups including this one that didn't reunite and perform. The Extreme guys couldn't even get in the same room together because Nuno refused to participate and refused even to be interviewed on camera. Frankie Goes To Hollywood was another band who didn't perform but they did reunite and talk which was wonderful to see because they hadn't been in a room together since 1988 and they were able to bury the past and they really enjoyed their time together. They decided not to perform (really Holly Johnson made the decision) because they felt that VH1 wasn't giving them enough rehearsal time and Holly was concerned that they'd sound like crap.
And actually that's been one of the most pleasant things about this show. For almost all of these people this is the first time that they're playing instruments and performing for audiences in years. And they have all sounded AMAZING. Again, if you can catch the repeats I highly reccomend them even if you weren't really a fan or familiar with the groups.

Any bad feelings between the bandmates? LOL! About your dad. My 61-year old mom has been calling the day after each show and discussing all the details with me. As far as lingering bad feelings between band members - almost all of the bands had had a bad break-up. And really almost everyone was able to make up. Klymaxx was one of the most volatile because 4 of the band members are suing the guitarist Cheryl Cooley because she has illegally licensed the name Klymaxx and is out performing as that. She also owes money for royalties for the Klymaxx songs that she's been performing but didn't write. Anyway it was interesting to see the 4 members interact with Cooley because they desperately want to forgive her because she was like a sister to them but they also want what's due them and an apology or explanation. They didn't really get either but they went on and performed without her and sounded awesome!

Yeah, I'll have to check out some of the other shows. But there is a lot of stuff that VH1 did not show. Out of curiosity, I went to the VH1 website to see what was said on the message boards. A few people had a point: VH1 DID ambush Nuno while he was eating, and he had every right to be p!ssed. Apparently, he was "set up", being told that he would be discussing a doccumentary on 90's music over lunch with a VH1 "colleague", and when he found out he'd been had, he blew up. Can't blame him.. I thought at first he was "just being Nuno" (I've known people who'd met him in the past, and he DOES have an ENORMOUS ego), But the truth of the matter is that ANYTHING he would have said on camera would have been chopped up and altered by VH1 in order to get ratings and make Nuno look bad. This has, unfortunately, become common industry practice in recent years, and that's the reason why I don't watch a lot of these so-called "reality shows" or even TV news anymore. You simply can't believe ANYTHING you hear on TV anymore! So basically, I'm not against the show, and I think the concept is a good idea, but I wouldn't believe everything that is said in them. Still, I'm sure it's nice to hear the bands that DO reform!

And I also talked to a friend of mine in Mass. that knows Pat from Extreme and he was saying that the members actually do all talk to each other on a regular basis and had even done some side projects together which is also something VH1 didn't mention at all to keep the whole "they hate each other" hype about their episode. So far, after doing some research the Extreme ep was really the only that I could find that the VH1 production team really took some liberties over what they showed. The VH1 site has also had some of the actual artists post stuff about the shows (almost all of it positive feedback). The couple of messages that I've read have been from Debora Iyall from Romeo Void and Limahl from Kajagoogoo.
