In the 17 years of the ongoing run of The Simpsons, many of their jokes and situations have revolved around music of some sort, from full-blown production numbers to a bonafide minor hit "Do The Bartman, " to little snippets of songs.
What musical numbers on The Simpsons (both full length or snippets) have been your faves?
Here are a few of mine:
1. Oh Streetcar Medley - Entire Cast
When the people of Springfield put on a musical version of a Streetcar Named Desire, called "Oh Streetcar" This is a huge spoof on the entire concept of a Broadway Musical. It features Apu singing "I am just a Simple Payperboy", Ned Flanders singing "Stella, can't you hear me yella", and a very funny finale "You Can Always Rely on the Kindness of Strangers" (A stranger's just a friend you haven't met.) However, the opening number "New Orleans" is unfortunately no longer funny.
2. That Was a Very Good Beer - Homer
I've always loved the little snippet Homer sings in the episode when he is going on the wagon and is pouring all his beer down the sink. To the tune of Sinatra's "It was a very Good Year"
"When I was seventeen, I had a very good beer,
I had a very good beer that I bought with a fake ID.
My name was Brian McGee
We stayed up listening to Queen
When I was seventeen"
3. See My Vest - Mr. Burns
From the episode where Santa's Little helper, the Simpsons dog has 25 puppies. Mr. Burns kidnaps the puppies and is planning to make clothes out of them. (Lines like 'see my loafers, former gophers')
4. Flaming Moes - A parody on the "Cheers" theme song.
5. Baby On Board - From the barbershop quartet episode.
How about you?
