This is gonna be shown on June 8th on CMT. I was about to say it has a good mix of old and new songs, but it appears to be mostly newer stuff. I am sort of surprised by the songs on the list.
Oh, the list (in alphabetical order) is on CMT. com.
I was surprised to see songs like Wide Open Spaces representing the Dixies and She's in Love with the Boy representing Trisha. Not disappointed, surprised.
And of course, Martina is represented by Independence Day. Now, this is a great songs, but there are so many better performances, and songs that did better on the chart! Whatever You Say is sung better and went to number 2. Indy Day peaked at 12!
Anyway, the final 12 songs will be performed LIVE in concert by Martina, Sara Evans, Deana Carter, Kenny Chesney and others. Obviously, these will be cover songs.
Check it out country fans!

I'm not a big country fan, but there was a pretty good mix of old & new. I prefer the older country to today's country, so naturally I was hoping for more of the "roots of country" songs.

That's an interesting list - and I agree, there are some surprises! It does seem as though each decade of country music is pretty well represented.
One song I was a little surprised not to see is 'I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool'. Such a great song that really captured the spirit of country music at that time!

I'm not a country fan either, but I looked at the list, and found many songs that I remember and liked. Most of them were crossover stuff (or I probably wouldn't have heard them in the first place.) Act Naturally (I assume other people than Ringo did this also) Always on My Mind (In my all time 250) Before the Next Teardrop Falls (Don't Know any other version, but I love Freddy Fender's version) Blue Moon of Kentucky - I'm a Big fan of early Elvis (I do know he was covering an earlier version, however) Crazy - As far as "pure" country music goes. Patsy Cline was probably my favorite. I love Crazy! Desperado - From my all time favorite group -The Eagles., this is one of my favorite songs. Also in my all time top 250. Devil Went Down to Georgia - Cool story song. D-I-V-O-R-C-E - Next to Patsy, I liked Tammy best for pure country. He'll Have to Go - Great song. (remember the "reply" song he'll have to stay?) I Fall to Pieces - Another super Patsy Cline song I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash's best IMO I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry - I know it's a Hank Williams tune, but the BJ Thomas version is in my all time 250 Stand by Your Man - Tammy at her best. Take Me Home, Country Roads - The first song I learned to play on the guitar. (Didn't learn til I was in my late 20s- still $uck) Tennessee Waltz - A very early music memory for me was Patti Page's version. Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) - no need to say anything. Your Cheatin' Heart - A classic to say the least. Hey -- maybe I'm a bit of a country fan after all

Most of the rankings I don't disagree with. But some songs that shoulda been on the list:
Walk on By (Leroy van Dyke) Heartaches by the Number The Race Is On For the Good Times (Ray Price) San Antonio Rose
They could have made room by deleting these from the list:
God Bless the USA Boy Named Sue The Gambler Rhinestone Cowboy Harper Valley PTA Desperado (unlike the others,I like this song, just don't consider it country)
