Two very popular bands in the mid to late 70's.
I used be an avid radio listener to the rock stations growing up. I would always hear the deejays play songs by Supertramp. I had heard of Supertramp before "Breakfast In America". I had heard "Bloody Well Right", "Dreamer" from "Crime Of The Century" and "Give A Little Bit" from "Even In The Quietest Moments" from the radio. But it seemed like "Breakfast" really made their career take off. I loved the songs on that album, especially, "Goodbye Stranger" and "Take The Long Way Home".
But on the other hand there's Cheap Trick. Cheap Trick "Live At Budokan" is one of my favorite live albums. I remember asking for "Dream Police" as one of my birthday presents. I liked "Dream Police", "I'll Be With You Tonight" and "Gonna Raise Hell".
I don't think I can pick one...

Glad to see you doing this feature again! I've missed it!
Two groups that I have a handful of faves, but not a huge amount.
My real faves by CT are Stop This Game, Tonight it's You and If You Want My Love.
From Supertramp, I LOVE Even in the Quietest Moments. Wished that got some radio play these days. Also like School and Bloody Well Right.
But I think I will give the nod to CT. Very Beatle influenced. Plus they influenced many bands themselves!

Luv both of 'em...Even though I've seen Cheap Trick live (and they were great) and have never seen Supertramp, I'd have to go with Supertramp on this one. I tend to like their music better.

I'm going with Supertramp. Their Breakfast in America album is really wonderful, and some of their songs such as 'Give a Little Bit' bring back a lot of memories. But Cheap Trick had a good sound, too.

LOVE both groups, in fact 2 of the top 5 rock groups of 1979 in terms of album sales and rock radio play, during disco's peak year! But Cheap Trick lasted a lot longer, plus they have that great Beatles sound! And I like Robin Zander's voice better that Roger Hodgson's, let alone Rick Davies'.

I love them both. "Surrender" is one of my all time favorites, but I gotta go with Supertramp.

(dusting cobwebs off thread)
I love both, too, but I have to go with Supertramp. They have such a unique sound. Lots of harmonies and falsetto...love it!
