I'll be watching for that report tomorrow! It should be a great concert! Quicksilver Messenger Service - I've heard three of their songs, and are they ever great! I really should look into a compilation of theirs sometime. Favorites: What About Me (I think you'd really like it!), Fresh Air, California State Correctional Facility Blues. Rare Earth - I really enjoy this group's music! Great early 70's rock sound. Favorites: Born to Wander, I Just Want to Celebrate, Get Ready, Hey Big Brother, Warm Ride. Rascals - One of my favorite groups of the mid-to-late 60's. I've always loved their mellow sound. I have Time Peace on cassette, but would like to get that Rhino collection that Pete mentioned. Favorites: A Beautiful Morning, Groovin', How Can I Be Sure, A Girl Like You, I've Been Lonely Too Long, People Got to Be Free. Raspberries - I only know a few of their songs, but like what I've heard. I like Eric Carmen's earlier solo material also - he's quite a talented vocalist. Favorites: Go All the Way, I Wanna Be With You, Let's Pretend, Overnight Sensation. Ratt - This was one of my favorite hard rock/metal bands when I was in high school. I still enjoy a lot of their music, and crank up 'Round and Round' whenever I hear it! Good stuff! Favorites: Round and Round, Wanted Man, Lay It Down. Otis Redding - A soul legend, and yet another talent we lost too soon. Favorites: (Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay, Try a Little Tenderness, Satisfaction, Respect, I've Been Loving You Too Long.

(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay was number one the day I was born, March 21st, 1968. Hey Boogie, we both had the number one songs from when we were born mentioned in today's post - cool! 'People Got to Be Free' was number one on September 15, 1968, when I made my arrival! ;D

Quicksilver Messenger Service--I only know "Fresh Air". I don't like it.
Rare Earth--Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. Lotsa great memories from my childhood. They are just too cool!
Rascals--Love these guys, too. Always liked their mellow sound. "Groovin'" is among my all time favorites.
Raspberries--Never much cared for this group. Eric Carmen's voice is annoying to me, for some reason. I can barely tolerate him as a solo artist.
Ratt--Ick. Ickety-ick-ick-ick. ;D
Otis Redding--Such a great talent, gone too soon. I always liked his voice, and the songs I know by him are great.

Lora, you don't give yourself enough credit. I'm sure you know Good Lovin'. "1,2,3, Good Lovin'.....I was feelin', so bad....asked my family doctor, what I had....." Also, "Groovin'.....on a Sunday afternoon...." Actually, those don't sound familiar...seriously. I don't think I've ever heard those before. So how was the concert?

I really thought that I had answered this on Friday...what happened? Anyway... Quicksilver Messanger Service - I know Fresh Air but that's it. It's a pretty good track. Rare Earth - One of my dad's faves. They were played in the house often in my youth. Faves: I Just Wan To Celebrate, Get Ready, We're Gonna Have A Good Time, Warm Ride Rascals - This is a band that I think might have gone into the hall too soon. I've never really liked them all that much, although Groovin' is pleasantly infectious. Faves: Groovin' Raspberries - I only know the 2 hits and I don't like either of them really. Ratt - I always liked Ratt too, although they haven't held up for me as much as other bands from that era. I still love hearing Round & Round! Faves: Round & Round, Loose Lips, Giving Yourself Away Otis Redding - Amazing talent! My fave on the list today. I 'm actually surprised that you're not more familiar with his stuff, although I still respect ya'! An amazing songwriter and vocal powerhouse. He wrote Respect and I like his version better actually. I love listening to his stuff whether I'm dancing around the house or sitting with a drink on a cold night in front of the fireplace. Faves: These Arms Of Mine, That's How Strong My Love Is, Try A Little Tenderness, I've Been Loving You Too Long, Respect, I Can't Turn You Loose

Hey Boogie, we both had the number one songs from when we were born mentioned in today's post - cool! 'People Got to Be Free' was number one on September 15, 1968, when I made my arrival! ;D Wow! What are the odds of that happening? That is really cool. And I forgot all about "People Got to Be Free" in my favorites list. Excellent song!

Quicksilver Messenger Service-One of several groups I have heard OF, yet never heard--for whatever reason.... Rare Earth-I remember when our local fair was promoting a "Battle of the Bands"--they kept using Rare Earth's "Get Ready" to do so. So much so, in fact that I was completely convinced that Rare Earth was IN the battle (Of course maybe they were for all I know. LOL) And now I must admit to more downloading: I downloaded the 20 minute version of "Get Ready", as well as "Celebrate", "Big Bro" and "Losing You". (10 minute version. ) I ran across these as I was searching for that song of theirs which Dave had in the Battle last week) I will be shopping for a Greatest Hits collection asap. Rascals-The first time I saw them they were called the Young Rascals, and were dressed, I suppose, like the Little Rascals. (With shorts and suspenders, I believe; I also believe this was on the Ed Sullivan show) Groovin, How Can I Be Sure, Beautiful Mornin', Good Lovin', Lonely Too Long, A Girl Like You Raspberries-Could NOT stand them then; can NOT stand them now. (The lead voice just gets on my nerves!) Otis Redding-A songwriter who could sing!! (Not always the case, you know) I used to always get his and Wilson Pickett's music mixed up for some reason (In fact, I almost listed "Mustang Sally" as a fave here! LOL!) But of those that are really his songs, "Dock of the Bay" is still a favorite of mine (Btw: I heard that his widow thought Micheal Bolton's was the best version next to the original. Just tho't you might like to know this. ;D) Also, Mr Pitiful, Try a Little Tenderness and I prefer his recorded version of "Respect"--which is fitting since it IS his song since HE WROTE IT! (I MUST have missed something!! Am I REALLY the first one to mention this?? Or is THAT why everyone kept using the word "Respect" in their replies?? )

Hope the Martina show rocked as much as the Al show did.
Quicksilver Messenger Service - didn't they sing the Western Union song? I don't know any other ones.
Rare Earth - I was a big fan of the Motown sound, but I prefer the "originals" if you will to the versions they covered.
The Rascals - I enjoy them. Favorites: It's A Beautiful Mornin, Good Lovin, People Gotta Be Free, I've Been Lonely Too Long, and very favorite How Can I Be Sure - one I love to Karaoke.
The Raspberries - the only one I know is Go All The Way - it's ok
Ratt - only know Round and Round - again, it's ok
Otis Redding - soul legend - love Try A Little Tenderness, Dock of the bay is a bit played out

Quicksilver Messenger Service - One of the icons of the Bay Area. Were part of the final week concert at the Fillmore West and included on the subsequent album (Last Days of the Fillmore West). More of an early FM band, not much chart history. Great band, just love to listen to Fresh Air over & over. Other Favorites: Who Do You Love, Shady Grove, Stand By Me.
Rare Earth - One of the great AM rock bands of the early 70s. Everything they did was so good. Have their live album with all the long songs on vinyl (double album). Favorties: Get Ready (especially the live version), I Just Want to Celebrate, I'm Losing You, Hey Big Brother, Born to Wander.
Rascals - One of the great non-British groups of the 60s. Started as the Young Rascals, then grew up. Music was always fun. Groovin' is one of the best "summer" songs ever. Other Favorites: Good Lovin', How Can I be Sure, A Beautiful Morning, People Got To Be Free, Carry Me Back.
Raspberries - Typical early 70s rock. Came and went so fast, although Eric Carmen didn't do so bad. Favorites: Go All The Way, Let's Pretend, I Wanna Be with You.
Ratt - Ratt was ok. Got the album with Round and Round on it on vinyl.
Otis Redding - Otis will always be Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. Genius, lost way to soon. Other Favorites: Try a Little Tenderness & Respect (Aretha does it better, but it's still a good Otis song).
