Sam & Dave - Wonderful soul duo. I just recently heard their version of 'Wrap It Up' for the first time, and it's great! Favorites" Hold On I'm a Comin', I Thank You, Soul Man, Wrap It Up. Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs - My knowledge of them is pretty much limited to their two big hits, which are both good. I remember doing a routine to 'Woolly Bully' as part of our school's gym show in 7th grade. Santana - Legendary guitarist. He's been in the music scene for many years, and still has the touch. So many of his songs are classics. Favorites: Hold On (Love it - in my top 20 80's songs), Evil Ways, Everything Is Coming Our Way, She's Not There, Winning, Smooth, Game of Love (one of VERY few post 2000 songs I like!) Leo Sayer - I loved listening to his music back in the 70's when I was growing up. Good singer and songwriter. Wonder whatever became of him? Favorites: You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You, Long Tall Glasses, Easy to Love, Thunder in My Heart, More Than I Can Say, How Much Love. Boz Scaggs - Very talented musician. Silk Degrees is an outstanding album, and I also love his material from the early 80's. I have his Hits! on cassette, but I'd love to see a more complete anthology someday. Favorites: JoJo (another top 80's song!), Lowdown, Lido Shuffle, What Can I Say, It's Over, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Look What You've Done to Me, Miss Sun. I wish VH-1 would do a Where Are They Now? on Leo.

Sam & Dave--My husband was a big fan, so I heard them a lot while he and I were dating. I don't mind listening to them once in awhile. Good stuff! Sam the Sham/Pharoahs--Not somebody I'd listen to on a regular basis, but their songs were pretty fun. Santana--Never really liked him/them when I was growing up, but I've since come to appreciate the music. The new one, "Game of Love", is very good. I enjoy it. BTW--my friend Mary was in Indianapolis a couple of years ago, and she said she got on an elevator, and there were 2 guys already on it who were elaborately dressed, and looked kinda out of place in the hotel where she was. She struck up a brief conversation with the guys, who said they were members of Santana, and were playing a concert later on that night. And here's how paranoid my friend Mary is: She didn't believe them! LOL! She said she got a little nervous, and got off the elevator as quickly as she could, and when she told her husband about it later, he told her that Santana was indeed playing a concert that night, and it probably was two guys from the band. So she missed her chance at having a real conversation with them, and maybe some autographs, or even tickets to the show! Oh well...if you knew Mary, you'd know that's about how goofy she is. LOL! Leo Sayer--Had some good songs. I enjoyed listening to him way back when. Incidentally, I was watching some tv show not too long ago--wish I could remember what it was--and somebody was interviewing Leo. I think it was on Comedy Central, cuz it was some sort of a parody type thing. The interviewer was stopping people in the street, asking if they knew who "this person" was. Nobody did. Even when the people were told it was Leo Sayer, most of them said they never heard of him. LOL! Anyway, at least he's still alive and kicking. In relative obscurity, apparantly. ;D Boz Scaggs--Really, really, really, like him. I don't think there's a bad song in the bunch. I have the "Hits" album on CD, and I find myself listening to it quite a bit. Never seem to get tired of him. So Leo made an actual appearance? How did he look?

Sam & Dave - I know Soul Man, but that's it. Good tune. Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs - Never heard of 'em. Santana - I really like some of the more recent collaborations he's done, but I don't much care for the whole band. Just Carlos. And he's only fair, in my opinion. Just not my style, that's all. Leo Sayer - Good voice. He looks like Richard Simmons? Poor guy. Faves - You Make Me Feel Like Dancin', When I Need You (prefer Celine Dion's version, though). Boz Scaggs - Don't care for him. I have a request. Barbra Streisand, please. Celine?? OH NO!!

OK. This is the third time I'm trying to answer this post. Yesterday, twice I tried to close a %^$%$&*$^% popup, and wound up closing the main screen instead, losing the nearly completed post. New day, new attempt. Sam and Dave - Only familiar with the three songs: Hold On I'm Coming, Soul Man, I Thank You. I like em all, but there is a bit of sameness to them. I have Hold On I'm Coming on one of my "Never Made the Top 20" cds -- songs that you'd swear HAD made the top 20, but didn't. Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs - Love Li'l Red Riding Hood. All time top 250. Great use of subject matter. Awooo! ;D Don't see what all the hype was about Wooly Bully, though. It's OK, but not THAT good, IMO. Other faves: Oh That's Good No Thats Bad, How Do You Catch A Girl, Ring Dang Doo. Santana - Never been a real fan, although he certainly has talent. Only fave is Black Magic Woman: Leo Sayer - Agree about the Richard Simmons similarities. But he's got one song that I love: When I Need You - all time top 100. Long Tall Glasses and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing are OK. Don't care for his cover of More Than I Can Say. Prefer the Crickets and Bobby Vee versions. Boz Scaggs - It took me a while to realize that this was a guy's name - not the name of a band. Good sound. My fave is Look What You've Done For Me. Also like Lido Shuffle, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Miss Sun, and Lowdown. Now! Quick let me click on the Post button before this crashes. I've been doing that lately-knocking out the main screen instead of the pop-ups. Just did it last night. Is the Isley Brothers' Shout on the CD you made? I hadn't realized More Than I Can Say was done before.

Super brief today (and a day late even). I need 48 hours to each day...aargh!!!! Sam & Dave: Great duo. Influential and covered quite often. Favorites = Hold On, I'm Coming, Soul Man, I Thank You Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs: Fun 60's era party music. Favorites = Wooly Bully Santana: Prefer their early hits to Carlos' tremendous comeback of 2000. Could live an entire lifetime without hearing "Smooth" again and be perfectly happy. Oh yeah, outstanding guitar work BTW. Favorites = Evil Ways, Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Winning Leo Sayer: Separated at birth from Richard Simmons? The resemblance is disturbing. Pleasant enough songs. Wimpy perhaps, but enjoyable. Favorites = You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You, More Than I Can Say Boz Scaggs: Wretched, mostly. Especially Miss Sun...OMG play that for an hour straight and I'll confess EVERYTHING I've ever done just to make it stop. Favorites = Lido Shuffle The Rhino collection of Leo's cover looks ESPECIALLY like Simmons.

Sam and Dave - great soul songs. Favorites: Soul Man, Hold On, I'm Comin (can't hear this one anymore without thinking "I bet these cops have got SCMODS" and "You want out of this parking lot? OK", I Thank You, Soothe Me, and they did a great cover of Sweet Soul Music Sam The Sham - one of my dad's favorites. Passable: Little Red Riding Hood (one of my husband's favorites) and Wooly Bully Santana - I agree w/SAT - no inbetween on these guys. Ones I'm not sick of: Winning, Oye Como Va, Hold On Leo Sayer - he's ok. Favorites: More Than I Can Say, You Make Me Feel Like Dancin', When I Need You Boz Scaggs - Favorites: Lido Shuffle, Look What You've Done To Me (yes, on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack). Played a lot after he starts hanging out with Pam (that movie is such a guilty pleasure....) I have several artists that there are no between with them.

1.Sam and Dave-here is a real favorite of mine I got turned on to after watching "The Blues Brothers" movie.I like their gritty, urban blues
2.Sam the Sham-cute,lightweight ditty band
3.Santana-now,I sure hope I am not about to offend the many fans of this group but.....I am sick to death of Santana! Our local oldies radio stations have all but played them to death and I just cannot bear them anymore.I used to be a big fan but I think I reached saturation point about 1993.
4.Leo Sayer-he is alright though a bit wimpy;favorite is "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing"
5.Boz Scaggs-never a real fan here,sorry

Is the Isley Brothers' Shout on the CD you made? No, it isn't - but it sure fits the category, and will be on the next cd of that type that I burn (that'll be vol. 4) Thanks for the suggestion, Adam.

Sam & Dave->> So weird to think that I Thank You, which gets limited play these days went higher on the charts than Hold On, I'm A Comin'-and that the latter didn't crack the top 20!<<
Yes, that IS wierd! (NEVER would have guessed!) ->>Faves-Hold On, I'm A Comin', Soul Man, I Thank You<< Same here--and in that order.
Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs-and I'm surprised I never heard of Ring Dang Doo until I saw them singing it on--yes--one of my Hullabaloo DVDS. Now it's definitely one of my faves! In fact, it's pushed their "biggies" lower on my charts!
I've heard that Sam (Actually read on his website--or a fan site) is now a Christian (Has accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour) and will only sing the oldies if he is also allowed to sing songs of his faith. :)As long as he sings such songs in the musical style people are expecting to hear (I don't know that slow hymns would fit, for example. LOL!) I really don't think there should be a problemo. (*shrugs*)
Btw: There was a guy on YL who's father-in-law was one of The Pharoahs; remember? (I wish I could remember his name--maybe he's here for all I know. LOL!)
Santana-My brother and his friends used to go down to TJ to see him perform before he was famous.
I agree with you about being "sick" of some of his older stuff--yet I still kind of like it, too. Also I like some of the newer music, too.
Leo Sayer-Used to like his music--now I just find it annoying. I do recall, though, that he always looked like he was having FUN singing! (Maybe if he saw him singing again I'd like his singing again. LOL!)
Boz Scaggs-Ah! My high school years! *sigh*(And a little past, too) Faves-Lido Shuffle, Lowdown--and one of the songs of his from Dave's 70s battle.

1. Sam & Dave - Good soul/R&B duet. Surprised to see they're in the Rockhall. Favorites: Soul Man, I Thank You
2. Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs - Classic 60s party music. Wooly Bully probably gets more airplay than it deserves. Good stuff though. Favorites: Wooly Bully, Li'l Red Riding Hood
3. Santana - I'm in the love them group. Number 10 all-time favorite group. Carlos Sanatana (imo) may be a top 10 all-time greatest guitar players. Great classic rock. Hard to argue someone who keeps a song in the top 40 for 53 weeks & #1 for 12 weeks (Smooth). Great stuff, never get tired of it. Favorites: Black Magic, Woman, Oye Como Va, Smooth, Evil Woman, Jingo, Everybody's Everything Samba Pa Ti, Put Your Lights On, and many many more.
4. Leo Sayer - Hard for me to find what I liked about him in the 70s. Got his greatest hits on vinyl, but the only song I really liked was Long Tall Glasses.
5. Boz Scaggs - Great blues/rock & roll guy. Been around forever. Did a killer two set jam with Elvin Bishop & Taj Mahal as part of the final night festivities at the Fillmore West in 1971. Silk Degrees is one of the essential albums of the 70s. Every song on the albums a winner. Pretty low key, few chart hits, but had some great songs. Didn't realize he was one of the original members of the Steve Milller Band. Learn something new everyday. Favorites: Harbor Lights, We're All Alone, Lido Shuffle, Look What You've Done to Me, Miss Sun, Lowdown, It's Over, Don't Cry No More, Early in the Morning
