I'm rushed rushed rushed today. Shedaisy - NO! Slade - They always seemed like a band that you'd see at a carnival. It seemed like they had about 50 people in the band including dwarves and people with funny beards and hats and things (I think the Run, Runaway video had something to do with this image in my head) Anyway, I've always loved a couple of their tunes. You're right about the spelling. Faves: Run Runaway, Cum On Feel The Noize, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me, Coz I Lov You Slaughter - My gawd Mark Slaughter's voice is freakin' annoying! Falsetto gone horribly wrong. But that said, I do like one of their songs: You Are The One Sly & The Family Stone - My fave today. Definite back yard BBQ music. Faves: If You Want Me To Stay (in my top 500 songs easily), Hot Fun In The Summertime, Everyday People, Dance To The Music Smashmouth - Nope. LOL about the dwarfs, etc. That is how the video is!

SHeDaisy - I'm sure I've heard a few of their songs, but can't recall any titles. Slade - I listened to this group a lot during my senior year of high school. A friend had their tape Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, and I liked it so much, I bought my own and just about wore it out! Favorites: My Oh My, Don't Tame a Hurricane, Run Runaway, High and Dry. Slaughter - Never heard their music. Sly & the Family Stone - I agree with you about the later hits not getting much airplay, which is a shame, because they're among the group's best, IMO. Great funk-styled sound. Favorites: Runnin' Away, If You Want Me to Stay, I Want to Take You Higher, Hot Fun in the Summertime, Dance to the Music, Everybody is a Star. Smashmouth - 'Walking on the Sun' is great, but I've never been able to get into their other songs much. I'm sure your husband would like Slaughter too.

SHeDaisy - No thanks. Slade- I enjoy them. Love the Celtic sound of their later music. Favorites: Run Runaway, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Feel The Noise, and the long forgotten My Oh My. Slaughter - Still sayin' no to hair metal. My husband has "Stick It To Ya", and another cd that goes with it but I don't remember what it's called. Sly and the Family Stone - Good funky music. Favorites: Everyday People, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Hot Fun In The Summertime, Dance To The Music. (I think Thank You Falle.....is way played out). Smashmouth - I liked them when they first came out, but their lead singer has a bad attitude problem and really rubs me the wrong way. And their version of I'm A Believer is foul! Favorites: All Star, Walking On The Sun I think I have avoided their Monkees cover thus far.

SHeDaisy--THe SOngs yOu MEntioned (heehee) sound familar, but I can't really think of how they go. I don't own anything by them, and probably never will. They never impressed me much. Slade--I have the album Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, and I used to listen to it all the time. I absolutely love "My Oh My". What a great tune! I'd like to get a compilation of theirs on CD sometime. I'd much rather listen to them than Quiet Riot. Slaughter--I know Up All Night and Fly to the Angels. Never investigated further. Sly and the Family Stone--Great party music. Sly Stone was quite talented. Not to be confused with Sly Stallone. I know. That was lame. Anyway, always enjoyed listening to this group. Good stuff! Smashmouth--I like them a lot. They just seem like they're out to have fun and make some feel good music while they're at it. I have good memories of "All Star", cuz my (now) 13 year old niece used to love that song, and she'd sing it all the time. It was very cute to watch her getting into the song. No, I've thought of the Sly Stallone thing myself before!

SHeDaisy- Never heard of them Slade- Not a bad group, but not one that I would put anywhere near my top tier. Their sound was....well ... different, and not necessarily in a good way. Faves" Gudbuy T' Jane, Cum On Feel The Noize. Slaughter- Never heard of them Sly & the Family Stone- Good soul group from the late '60s/early '70s. Faves: Hot Fun In The Summertime, Everyday People, Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin (talk about spelling!!), I Want To Take You Higher. Smashmouth-Heard of them but don't know their music. Yeah, what is with the spelling and capitalization on this list?

Huh, interesting about Slaughter. Wouldn't you hate to have a last name like that? Ugh. I'd rather be Mark Slaughter than Kip Winger. (another hair band, in case you didn't know)

So what is up with Sly's personality? According to Chuck Negron in his autobiography "Three Dog Nightmare", Sly was a hardened street fighter who was scary when he was coked up. He would often beat up people who owed him money and had apparently pulled a gun on his dealer. Dance to the music indeed...

So does Chuck cover a lot of other contemporaries in the book besides the Doggies? (I am sure you were interested in the book for the Beach Boy connection)

SheDaisy - ?
Slade - Know Cum on Feel the Noize & Run Runaway. Run Runaway is the best of the two and the only one that gets airplay on my classic rock station.
Slaughter - ?
Sly & The Family Stone - One of the better soul/funk bands through the late 60s/early 70s. Didn't realize they were in the Rockhall, they deserve it, although their induction just adds to the arguement that Chicago & BS&T belong there as well. Anyway, Sly & his family cranked out a lot of great hits and Hot Fun is one of the classic summer tunes. Good Stuff. Favorites: Every Day People, Hot Fun, Thank You, Dance to The Music
Smashmouth - Heard them, don't like them.

Ok, you seem to know Smashmouth-did they do that song I'm thinking of up there? They sure did. I think the title was "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby". I didn't list that one as a favorite though because I'm only lukewarm to it.

Damn! So does Chuck cover a lot of other contemporaries in the book besides the Doggies? (I am sure you were interested in the book for the Beach Boy connection) Most of the book deals with his struggles with success and his 19 year herion addiction. There isn't really any 'dirt digging', he just tells it like he remembers it. There is an interesting story about him sleeping with a girl he met unaware that she was Terry Kath's girlfriend (Terry nearly beat the crap out of him when he found out!). And of course there is the story of how Brian wanted to produce them, but good ol' Mike Love put the squash on that.. As far as Sly, it had something to do with a drug deal, I'll have to read the book again.. It's a great read, I recommend it! I'll have a lot to say when we get to Three Dog Night!

Hot and cold here.
SheDaisy--The Poor man's Dixie Chicks, indeed. At least they're not a sellout.
Slade--Great early 70's Brit rock! Just couldn't find the US niche much, until Quiet Riot did their "Cum on feel the noize". Then they did one of the 80's best rock albums "Power Supply", and I LOVE that Dick Tracy-inspired album cover. One of the 80's best power ballads, too, with My oh my. Faves: Run runaway (Crank it up!) My oh my (Gosh I LOVE it) Cum on feel the noize Mama weer all crazee now Skweeze me pleeze me Coz I love you Can't tame a hurricane Gudbuy t' Jane Little Sheila Keep your hands off my power supply Get down wit it
Slaughter--Not bad. But still SICK of "Fly to the angels". Faves: Up all night (My theme song?) Spend my life Real love Loaded gun Reach for the sky The wild life
Sly & the Family Stone--A close race, but my fave today over Smash mouth. A most unique, unmatched blend of soul, funk, and rock. Just never mind about Sly's personality, the music's awesome! Faves: Family affair Everyday people (both top 1000) Hot fun in the summertime Dance to the music Thank you falletinme be mice elf agin (all of above are top 2000) Stand! Runnin' away Sing a simple song I wanna take you higher Don't call me nig-er, whitey Are you ready Time for livin' You can make it if you try Africa talks to you (The asphalt jungle) Everybody is a star There's a riot goin' on Spaced cowboy Fun Life Loose booty M' Lady Frisky
Smash mouth!--Looking for great retro rock? Look no further! This music always makes me feel so GREAT! Have their first 3 CD's, and maybe will get their 4th as well! It's so hard to find good music today, and this is the closest thing to utopia today. RIP Presley Scott Harwell 1/26/01-7/28/01. Faves: Pacific coast party Walkin' on the sun I'm a believer Can't get enough of you baby (orig. done by ? & the Mysterians) All star Holiday in my head Then the morning comes You are my number one She turns me on Why can't we be friends Diggin' your scene Let's rock Your man Out of sight Hold you high Radio Satellite Shoes 'n hats Pet names Who's there Come on come on I just wanna see Disenchanted Nervous in the alley Sister psychic

Sly & the Family Stone-I still remember how LARGE a band they were when I first saw them on Bandstand! They were just ALL OVER that stage/set! I also remember how funny I thought it was when I learned that "Thank you for letting me be myself" was actually "thank you fa lettin me be mice elf" (Or something like that--I never remember those exact words. LOL!) I do NOT like "Family Affair ( ) but I like all the ones you named (Except maybe "Stand"--I'm still undecided on that one. ;D) Smashmouth-Naturally, I like their retro sound
