Days are getting better....
Souther, Hillman, Furay Band-Doesn't have quite the same ring as Crosby, Stills & Nash, does it? Actually from what I have read, these guys were thrown together by the label to try to make a new supergroup. So they thought they'd take a Byrd and a Buffalo Springfield and pair them with.....J.D. Souther. Anyway, I like Furay better than Stills and Young! I picked up their first album on vinyl to check it out, and of course I like Richie's stuff best. Although I prefer Poco's originally unreleased take on Believe Me better. Faves-Falling in Love, Believe Me.
Spandau Ballet-Suggestion from Dave, but I had intended on including them. Not the most masculine of bands, that's for sure. If you are in your late teens today, don't admit you like them. True was good, their followups were lame. Faves-True, Gold, Only When You Leave (Last two honorable mentions).
Spanky and Our Gang-I need to pick up their greatest hits. My dad has it, and I should at least borrow it. The three songs I know, I like and I know they had other hits. Nice sound, similiar to the Mama's & Papa's in a way. Faves-I'd Like to Get to Know You (love it), Sunday Will Never Be the Same, Lazy Day.
Sparks-Surprised Dave didn't suggest this one. I have a tune called I Predict on a K-Tel album. But their real winner is Cool Places with Jane Weidlen. Cool tune, better video-a riot! Faves-Cool Places (w/Jane Weidlen), I Predict.
Spice Girls-Suggestion from Dave. Funny how each generation of bad music makes you appreciate the one before. Hearing Britney makes me realize the Spices weren't that bad! Actually, I never minded Say You'll Be There. The music near the end reminded me of a Stevie Wonder tune. My wife actually bought that CD about 5 or so years ago. Guess what? Still in the shrink wrap. Faves-Say You'll Be There, If You Wanna Be My Lover, 2 Become 1.
And you?

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band - Never heard of them. Some supergroup, huh?
Spandau Ballet - True is an awesome song! There was this episode of Popular a few years ago in which this dorky girl named April Tuna was in a car accident. The song playing on the radio was True. Anyway, everyone thought that she had died in the crash, so her classmates had a memorial for her at school and played True endlessly! It was great! But, don't know any of their other tunes.
Spanky and Our Gang - Heard of them, and I'm sure I know a song or two, but I can't think of any. Those titles you listed don't look familiar to me.
Sparks - Not familiar with them.
Spice Girls - Don't diss the Spice Girls so quickly. I may have to hurt you! I've loved the Spice Girls since they came out. I think they're great! Did you ever see Spice World? OMG, that movie was f-ing hilarious!!! I'm serious! It was so funny! Anyway, their music. Okay. Since the group disbanded, I think all of the girls have done some solo stuff, with the exception of Victoria Addams, possibly. For those of you who aren't Spice Girl fans, that's Posh Spice. But we know what she's been doing these days anyway. She's married to David Beckham, world-famous soccer player and major babe! I know Geri Halliwell had a fairly successful solo album, and she works out almost constantly now and is really superthin and in great shape. Good for her! She had a really good song with Look at Me. I saw that video on MTV frequently when it debuted. I loved that song! Okay, now back to the group--Faves - Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Stop, Goodbye.

Gotta be quick today.
Souther, Hillman Furay Band--As stated yesterday, only have heard "Falling in love" a couple times.
Spandau Ballet--Good 80's stuff! True tires out on me though. Gold and only when you leave are good, they could use more airplay. Also LOVE their UK debut hit "I don't need this pressure on".
Spanky & Our Gang--Got a CD late last year of them. Great feelgood music! Faves: Lazy day Sunday will never be the same Making every minute count Like to get to know you Give a damn Sunday morning
Sparks--I would like to investigate this group further--I think they've been doing their quirky synth stuff for over 30 years now! For now, really only know (and love both) Cool places & I predict.
Spice Girls--WOO HOO!!! There are more fans here than I thought! My easy fave today, loved their movie, Emma "Baby" Bunton is the hottest! I really love them; it's too bad that great 90's stuff has died off so quickly. Top faves: Wannabe Say you'll be there Too much Stop Spice up your life 2 become 1 (All 6 among my top 100 of the 90's) Viva forever Mama Who do you think you are Goodbye The lady is a vamp Can't recall any of their tunes off their 3rd album; I just LOVE their first 2 CD's so much!

Well, I had started to post. Midway through the power went out and I was left sitting in the dark for 20 minutes! Gave me time to ponder these......
Souther, Hillman, Furay Band-I have Fallin' In Love. Not a bad song, I can't hear it in my head right now. I should check out more.
Spandau Ballet-I have their Greatest hits. I liked all three biggies, as well as "I Don't Need This Pressure On". Kind of a "B List" New Wave group.
Spanky & Our Gang-I have all their biggest hits on various CD compilations, as well as a cassette which contains all their hit singles EXCEPT (get this), "Sunday Will Never Be The Same"!! But I still don't own a CD collection. A buddy of mine owns all three of their original albums on Japanese import CD's, maybe I'll copy them.
Sparks-These guys have been around since the early 70's, yet never had a big U.S. hit. So expect to see a lot of "HUH?"... They had a lot of hits in England, they were hilarious to watch, but couldn't make the U.S. Top 40. They even appeared on Saturday Night Live in '82 (The cast of TAXI were hosting that particular episode). Great stuff! Faves-When I'm With You, The Number One Song In Heaven, Moustache, Angst In My Pants, Cool Places, This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, Eaten By The Monster Of Love.
Spice Girls-I agree with Dave, I've been in love with Emma since I first saw the Wannabe video! But I never really cared for their music...

Souther, Hillman & Furay Band - super group? *snort* Uhhhh no, but some nice tunes anyway. I love JD's voice. Faves: Safe At Home, Fallin In Love, Pretty Goodbyes Spandau Ballet - love 'em! "True" is a classic that still holds up today. They had other good tunes too that didn't get any airplay in the US. Gotta love Tony Hadley's voice. Faves: True, Gold, Chant #1, Round & Round, Lifeline, Only When You Leave, Heaven Is A Secret Spanky & Our Gang - I only know "I'd Like To Get To Know You" Sparks - Yay! I got the double album called "Profile" for my birthday this year and I've fallen in love with songs I never knew before. Faves: When I'm With You, #1 Song In Heaven, This Town's Not Big Enough For Both Of Us, Tips For Teens, Wonder Girls, I Like Girls, Eaten By The Monster of Love Spice Girls - Hmmm...I won't deny that they had a few songs that were okay. Faves: Who Do You Think You ARe, 2 Become 1, Say You'll Be There I hope you've got Split Enz on your list for tomorrow.... ;D

Souther Hillman Furay Band - I mentioned yesterday that I have both albums by the band . Both include some fine tunes. I love Furay's voice Faves include - Fallin' in Love , Believe Me , The Heartbreaker , Safe at Home , Trouble in Paradise , Mexico, Love and Satisfy and Move Me. Spandau Ballet - I've heard a couple of their songs but the only one I like is True Faves - True Spanky and Our Gang - Great vocals ,nice upbeat tunes , their drummer later replaced Jim Barbata in The Turtles. I have a few of their songs on tape. Faves - Lazy Day , Sunday Will Never Be The Same and I'd Like to Get To Know You. Sparks - I've read quite a bit about them over the years (there's a big article in the latest issue of Record Collector). The only tune I've ever heard is Cool Places with Jane. Faves - Cool places Spice Girls - both my nieces were crazy about them at the time! Ihave to admit that Stop was actually a really good tune and my favorite . Emma was a cutie and Geri looked amazing in that union jack mini skirt ("drool") Faves - Stop!

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band - 'Fallin' in Love' is the only song of theirs I know - it's great.
Spandau Ballet - I liked them a lot when I was in high school, and still do today. Their songs bring back a lot of memories of that time. Dave is right - 'Gold' and 'Only When You Leave' are great, but seldom heard today. Other favorites: True, Communication.
Spanky & Our Gang - Wonderful late 60's pop, and Spanky McFarlane is a very talented singer. I have their greatest hits LP, but would like to upgrade to CD sometime. Favorites: Like to Get to Know You, Sunday Will Never Be the Same, Lazy Day. An aside - there was a group called the Peppermint Rainbow who sounded almost exactly like Spanky & Our Gang. They had a hit in 1969, 'Will You Be Staying After Sunday', that's very reminiscent of 'Sunday Will Never Be the Same'. Love it!
Sparks - I think I might have that K-tel album you mentioned, with 'I Predict'. I haven't listened to it in awhile, though, and can't quite place the song.
Spice Girls - I've said many times that I never really warmed up to a lot of 90's music, but I did enjoy some of their songs. Favorites: Say You'll Be There, Stop, Too Much, Spice Up Your Life.

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band - Ummmm, 'kay?
Spandau Ballet - Manly, yes but Beavis likes it too. (Ok, obscure B&B reference - sorry). I loved them. Thought the lead singer was dead sexy. Didn't understand back then......Favorites: True, Only When You Leave, Gold, Chant #1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On) - favorite by association: Set Adrift On Memory Bliss by PM Dawn which has True in the mix.
Spanky and Our Gang - they're ok. I like Sunday Will Never Be The Same and the Get To Know You one, but not Lazy Day - to bubblegummy. I bought a K-Smel CD a few years back - only spent a few on it thank goodness - they had old songs sung by the original aritsts, but neglected to say they weren't the original recordings - they don't sound today like they did then. I bought it for the Cowsills, and they were adults singing the songs - was not good.
Sparks - I know Cool Places - it's ok - don't know any others.
Spice Girls - my friend's daughter soo loved them - now she listens to Eminem and won't admit to the fact that I stood in line forever at Boscov's to put Spice Girls dolls on layaway because her mom couldn't be there to wait in line - I also spent 2 months trying to win her concert tix. Tolerable: Spice Up Your Life.

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band--Don't know much about 'em. Can't comment.
Spandau Ballet--I only know True. Not a bad song the first 500 times I heard it. ;D BTW--I seem to recall these guys making a movie a few years ago--"The Krays". Details are sketchy though. I don't think I ever saw the movie, but remember hearing about the brothers from Spandau Ballet starring in it. Anybody else have an inkling if I'm right about that or not? LOL!
Spanky and Our Gang--Really liked this group when I was a youngster. Some great, feel-good songs. I have an album or two by them, I'd like o get something on CD someday.
Sparks--I think I have an album by them. I remember seeing them on some show, might have been the SNL ep that Pete mentioned. I'm gonna have to check them out a little further. I remember liking them a lot, but I guess I forgot most of their songs. LOL! I do know Cool Places--great song!
Spice Girls--I don't know if I'd call them a guilty pleasure or not, but I have to admit, there were a few songs of theirs that I kind of enjoyed. ;D Harmless, "poppy" stuff that I don't mind listening to if I'm in the right mood for it.

Souther, Hillman Furay Band - Richie Furay was the real star here. Probably something that never should have happened.
Spandau Ballet - True is about the only song I really know. It's not so bad.
Spanky & Our Gang - Surprised they only had 5 top 40s. Not a bad band at all. Like to Get to Know You was such a great song, should have charted higher. Other favorites: Lazy Day, Sunday Mornin', Sunda Will Never be the Same
Sparks - ?
Spice Girls - Just not my style.

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band- Don't know them Spandau Ballet- The only song I know is True. For several years, I didn't know that I knew it - never knew the title. Good song. Spanky and Our Gang- Definitely Mama's and Papa's wanna bees. I believe that Spanky MacFarland either actually did replace or nearly replaced Mama Cass in a Mamas and Papas revival. Had some very good songs on their own: Sunday Morning is my Fave. Others: Sunday will never be the Same, Like To Get To Know You.. Never realized the similarities with Peppermint Rainbow, but I definitely agree with Dawn on that one. Sparks- Don't know them. Spice Girls- Of course I heard of them, but aside from seeing them on TV in one or two very forgettable performances, I don't know their music.
