Al Stewart - only know Year Of The Cat and Time Passages, but I like them both.
Rod Stewart - I have kind of a love/hate thing with him. He's huge in this area - ie: WAY overplayed. The South Park send up of him was hilarious (ooohhhh. Poopants. What? Pooped my pants) Favorites (not sick of): Infatuation, Do You Think I'm Sexy
Stephen Stills - All I know about him was that he auditioned for The Monkees, they like him but his teeth were bad, so they turned him down. He was friends with Peter Tork, who looked kind of like him in the early days, and he refered Peter to the producers, and the rest is history.
Sting - I like most of Sting's solo stuff, but Desert Rose was just way to repetetive. Favorites: Fields Of Gold, All This Time
Strawberry Alarm Clock - only know Incense and Peppermints.

Al Stewart - I agree with Pete - Al is an excellent lyricist, and I really enjoy listening to his music. I have his 4 top 40 hits on various LPs, but would like to get his greatest hits CD sometime. Favorites: Midnight Rocks (LOVE this!), Year of the Cat, Time Passages, Song on the Radio.
Rod Stewart - Sometimes I forget how much I like him as an artist until I see a list of songs, and realize that there are quite a few tunes of his I enjoy. I'm not crazy about his mid-80's songs and beyond, but his earlier stuff is great. Favorites: Da Ya Think I'm Sexy, Passion, Tonight's the Night, Young Turks, Tonight I'm Yours, The First Cut is the Deepest, You're in My Heart, Baby Jane, How Long.
Stephen Stills - I'd always liked 'Love the One You're With', but didn't know any of his other solo songs until this past year, when I heard 'It Doesn't Matter'. What a terrific song that is!
Sting - Although I like his work with The Police a little more, I generally like most of what I've heard of his solo material. Favorites: If You Love Somebody Set Them Free, Fortress Around Your Heart, We'll Be Together, Russians, You Still Touch Me.
Strawberry Alarm Clock - I have their Anthology on CD (got it mainly for 'Tomorrow'), but haven't yet listened to it. Great 60's pop/psychedelia. Favorites: Incense and Peppermints, Tomorrow, Strawberries Mean Love.

I have to make it quick today because I'm leaving for NYC this afternoon. So that means I'll be away from the Music Click until next week. I'll try to catch up then because I know I'm going to be missing some of my most favorite artists coming up.
Al Stewart - All of his stuff kinda sounds the same to me, but I still like it. Faves: Time Passages, Year of The Cat
Rod Stewart - My fave today. His distinctive voice and songwriting ability makes stand apart from many. I like a couple of his songs that NO ONE enjoys, but I'm not ashamed. Faves: Love Touch, I Don't Wanna Talk About It, Young Turks, You Wear It Well, You're In My Heart, Rhythm Of My Heart, Sailing, First Cut Is The Deepest
Stephen Stills - Except for "Love The One You're With" I don't really like a lot of his solo stuff. I love this one song though.
Sting - Better with the Police for sure but still some enjoyable solo stuff from him. Faves: When We Dance, Englishman in New York, All This Time, Love Is The Seventh Wave, Desert Rose
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Nope

Looks good today!
Al Stewart--A wonderful musician, I've only loved his music more and more the last few years. Have his 2 biggest albums on CD as well. Absolutely wonderful. Faves: Time passages Year of the cat On the border Midnight rocks Song on the radio Almost Lucy Palace of Versailles Broadway hotel Valentina way If it doesn't come naturally leave it Running man Lord Grenville A man for all seasons Roads to Moscow One stage before Midas shadow Timeless skies End of the day Flying sorcery Nostradamus Life in dark water Merlin's time Sand in your shoes
Rod Stewart--absolute legend. Though his newer stuff's not quite as good as earlier hits, I don't dislike too many later tunes. Mostly 80's-90's ballads I don't like as much, ESPECIALLY "Have I told you lately". Should look into his earlier era more. Are me eyes deceiving me--1980's "Foolish Behaviour" is NOT available on CD? Hmmm... Oh yeah, my fave today. Faves: Da ya think I'm sexy (WOO HOO!!!) Tonight's the night (with Britt Ekland) Maggie May Young turks The Motown song (his best post 1984 song! Woo!) Infatuation Love touch This old heart of mine (the Ron Isley version is SO great!) All for love (with Sting & Bryan) You're in my heart People get ready (with Jeff Beck) Stay with me (with Faces) Hot legs Lost in you Another heartache Passion Ain't love a bitch I know 'm losing you (with Faces) Reason to believe (ORIGINAL, please!) Baby Jane You wear it well Every picture tells a story Rhythm of my heart (MUST have the accordion intro!) All right now Mandolin wind Tonight I'm yours Crazy about her The first cut is the deepest Oh no-not my baby Tora tora tora Downtown train I was only joking Killing of Georgie Twisting the night away (both 1973 and 1987 versions) In a broken dream (with Python Lee Jackson) Having a party If we fall in love tonight Sailing (Most UK people will say this over Christopher Cross doing it) What am I gonna do (check out the end!) Good morning little schoolgirl (his debut single) Gasoline alley Some guys have all the luck Pinball wizard Ooh la la (both the recent solo and the Faces version) I don't want to talk about it (original 1980 version only, please) Handbags and gladrags Stone cold sober Leave Virginia alone (written by Tom Petty) It's all over now Rocks I ain't superstitious (with Jeff Beck) Angel Tear it up Street fighting man How long Body wishes She won't dance with me Sailor What's made Milwaukee famous... Mine for me Sweet little rock 'n roller Let me be your car I'd rather go blind This Somebody special Forever young
Stephen Stills-don't know that much solo stuff outside "Love the one you're with"! I may owe something to myself. Also like "Sit yourself down" and "Marianne".
Sting--Sorry, the Police was MUCH better. Could not understand why "Russians" was a big hit. The newer song "Desert rose" wasn't too bad. SICK of hearing "Brand new day" on those PA's!!! You may be surprised what my fave non-Police song of his is! Faves: All for love (with Rod and Bryan) If you love somebody set them free We'll be together Love is the seventh wave (Why oh WHY couldn't this make his hits CD's?) If I ever lose my faith in you All this time Be still my beating heart Fortress around your heart Shape of my heart Desert rose I'm so happy I can't stop crying Fields of gold When we dance Englishman in New York Let your soul be your pilot
Strawberry Alarm Clock--HAVE to get their CD soon! "Incense" is simply one of the best songs, EVER. Have heard a few tunes actually. Incense and peppermints (will NEVER leave my top 200 of all time) Tomorrow Barefoot in Baltimore Sit with the guru Birds in my tree Strawberries mean love Good morning starshine

Al Stewart--Never liked him. Annoying voice. No thanks.
Rod Stewart--Excellent. Loved his 70's stuff, not so thrilled about a lot of his 80's output. Very cool voice, really enjoy that raspy sound.
Stephen Stills--Don't know much beyond his CSN(Y) stuff. Can't really comment.
Sting--Yeah, what YOU said. Too A/C, too preachy. His voice tends to get on my nerves after a very short period of time.
Strawberry Alarm Clock--Incense and Peppermints is a great tune. I know nothing of else of this group.

Al Stewart- I'm only famiiar with Year of the Cat and Time Passages. Year of the Cat is a great song! Fantastic instrumental interlude. All time Top 250. I like Time Passages also, but not as much.
Rod Stewart- Not in my top twenty artists, but knocking on the door. The raspy voice works for him. Two songs in my all time top 250: You're In My Heart (great lyrics) and Reason To Believe (one of the best covers of ANY song I've ever heard!) Other Faves: Maggie May, You Wear It Well, Tonights The Night, Some Guys Have All The Luck, The First Cut is the Deepest (despite the writer), Forever Young
Stephen Stills- Don't really know his solo stuff very well other than Love The One Your With (which is not bad, but terribly overplayed) and a simply terrible version of Sit Down I Think I Love You.
Sting- Sorry. I don't see what all the excitement is about. liked him OK in Police, but as a solo artist, I really don't listen to him much at all. Don't like his music. Faves: --(only slightly): Fields of Gold, If You Love Somebody Set Them Free
Strawberry Alarm Clock- Fancied themselves psychedelic-rock stars, but I found their songs only second tier. Not much oomph behind their music. Incense and Peppermints was barely OK, and very overplayed in the day, and I'm still tired of it. Tomorrow and Barefoot in Baltimore ar no better than mediocre.

Al Stewart - I have such a hard time with these posts, for some reason. I think it must be because I know a lot of singers by face but not by name. I think this could be one of them. Not sure though. Rod Stewart - I too liked a lot of his early '80s stuff. Not familiar with his work with the Faces, though. I know that recently he tried to go back and record some Tony Bennett/Frank Sinatra type songs. I'm not figuring that worked out too well, not with that husky voice of his. Faves - Forever Young...brain fart...I'll modify later and list more titles. Stephen Stills - I take it he's from Crosby, Stills & Nash...and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. LOL. I don't know anything by any of those guys, solo or together. Sorry. Sting - I liked the Police, mostly Every Breath You Take though. Sting's alright. I like a few things. Faves - If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Desert Rose. Strawberry Alarm Clock - Don't know them either. Yeah, I don't know why Rod did that standards album.

Al Stewart - Back in the 70's I knew and loved Year of The Cat ( my cousin and I would listen to it over and over...) Time Passages and Song on the Radio . In The Late 80's a buddy of mine bought Al's best of and I realized that I actually knew more of his songs , I borrowed it and recorded all my faves on to cassette. Faves - On The Border , Year of The Cat , Time Passages , Song On The Radio and Midnight Rocks. Rod Stewart - His early material (solo and with the Faces) is just awesome. Love Ron Wood's slide guitar playing and the drumming of both Kenney Jones (I believe he spells it that way) and Mickey Waller is mind blowing. BTW - Adam I think I've mentiond it before(and you may already own it) but I highly recommend Rhino's Faces Best of - Good Boys When They're Asleep. My oldest brother in the last couple of years has referred to Rod as a Lounge singer and I guess with the release of his latest album - he's right!. I do like some of his early 80's output but it's the 70's stuff that really does it for me. Faves - Maggie May , (I Know) I'm Losing You ,Hot Legs, Gasoline Alley , You Wear it Well ,Borstal Boys , Maybe I'm Amazed , Poolhall Richard ,Twistin' The Night Away, Stone Cold Sober , Sailing , Young Turks , You're in My Heart , You're My Girl(I Don't Want To Discuss It) and Cigarettes and Alcohol. Stephen Stills - Both Manassas albums are great . I'm so glad I have the CS+N box set. I love his acoustic guitar playing as well. Faves - Love The One You're With , Johnny's Garden(Manassas) , Change Partners , It Doesn't Matter (Manassas) , Isn't it About Time. Sting - I like quite a few of his solo tunes I always thought his bass playing was great. Faves - Fortress Around Your Heart , If You Love Somebody Set Them Free , I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying , You Still Touch Me and his cover of Little Wing Strawberry Alarm Clock - We had the 45 of Incense and Peppermints in the house when I was little and I've always loved it ( I have it on 45 myself and CD) I picked Up The LP and it's very, very good. Faves - Incense and Peppermints , Rainy Day Mushroom Cloud , Pass Time with SAC , Birds in My Tree and Strawberries Mean Love and Tomorrow Oh, yes you did, and yes, I already had it! LOL! But, it is awesome! That was where I finally got to hear Cindy Incidentally!

Excellent line-up today! Al Stewart-I mentioned somewhere (I think it was one of Dawns "Lost Hits" posts) that Al Stewart is one of my favorite lyricists. I wasn't kiddin'! He had a knack for writing witty lyrics that flowed well with the music (If I could do that, maybe one day I will actually finnish MY own CD!!) He ranks high on my list of favorite singer/songwriters, yet I only have the greatest hits CD and like only a handful of songs. But it's the QUALITY, not quantity, that makes him so great in my book! Rod Stewart-He's one of those artists that I like a few songs by, but overall he irritates me. Nothing he's done since the early 80's has had any impact on me. I think "Infatuation" was the last song I liked by him (mostly because of Jeff Beck playing on it). I need to check out "Every Picture Tells A Story", I'd probably like that album a lot. Steven Stills-I remember we talked about Manassis on YL shortly before they shut down. I'm still looking to get the album, I want to check it out. I like his work in Buffalo Springfield and CSN, so I'm sure I'll like it. I'm going on vacation in Maine next week. There's a used record store where I'm going that I always go to. I think I'm going on a shopping spree! Sting-First solo album was good. After that.. eh... Some songs were good, but the Police were SO much better! Strawberry Alarm Clock-I could not imagine my childhood without Incense & Peppermints. I have a full Anthology CD by them. There's a few really good songs on it. According to the liner notes, Jon Walmsey (who played Jim-Bob on the Waltons) was in the group during the 80's (he may still be, I'm not sure). Faves:Incense (of course), Barefoot In Baltimore, Tomorrow, Sit With The Guru.... Oh yes I am sure you'd like Every Picture Tells a Story. And Manassas. I don't have the second album, but Ken does and said it was good. The first album is divided into 4 sections with 4 different styles of music.
