Strong lineup today, and no suggestions! Al Stewart-For years, all I knew was Year of the Cat. But then I ended up hearing Time Passages. Very similiar in sound. Had find my dad a used vinyl copy since the singles were so cut. Good songs, I'll listen to them on the radio, but not buy em myself. Faves-Year of the Cat, Time Passages. Rod Stewart-Yet another entry in the "Oh yeah, him too!" when he went into the Hall category. Didn't think of him, but when he went in, it made sense. Went through several stages-hard blues, mellow groovy 70s, 80s pop, 90s adult contemporary. Keep that Adult Contemporary Broken Arrow crap away from me. I do actually like his early 80s pop, and of course his work with the Faces. I need to get a collection on disc. Faves-(I Know) I'm Losing You (released as Rod Stewart & Faces), Every Picture Tells a Story, Young Turks. Stephen Stills-An artist I have gotten into more since I've gone into "Late 60s-early 70s, country/folk/rock" mode. It only made sense I investigate him since I loved CSNY & Buffalo Springfield so much. Glad I investigated the Manassas stuff, which is basically him and the musicians he surrounded himself with. (SIDENOTE:Bill Wyman wanted to quit the Stones to join Manassas ) Anyway, that first Manassas disc is the best of his "solo" output, but there are some other good lesser singles that should get more airplay these days. Faves-Both of Us (Bound to Lose) (Manassas-LOVE it), It Doesn't Matter (Manassas), Change Partners, Anyway (Manassas), Song of Love (Manassas). Sting-The Police stuff was ok, but his solo stuff was a combo of too adult contemporary and too preachy. I actually did pick up his greatest hits on cassette from a record club because I DO like If I Ever Lose My Faith in You a whole lot. The rest is EH. Faves-If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Fortress Around Your Heart, Love is the Seventh Wave (NEVER hear this one anymore). Strawberry Alarm Clock-a few years ago I wouldn't have included them, but I picked up a local DJ's CD collection of harder to find songs, and he included Tomorrow. Cool tune! As much as I like it, it will never pass Incense and Peppermints. A psychedelic classic! Faves-Incense and Peppermints, Tomorrow. And you?

Al Stewart - I have such a hard time with these posts, for some reason. I think it must be because I know a lot of singers by face but not by name. I think this could be one of them. Not sure though.
Rod Stewart - I too liked a lot of his early '80s stuff. Not familiar with his work with the Faces, though. I know that recently he tried to go back and record some Tony Bennett/Frank Sinatra type songs. I'm not figuring that worked out too well, not with that husky voice of his. Faves - Forever Young...brain fart...I'll modify later and list more titles.
Stephen Stills - I take it he's from Crosby, Stills & Nash...and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. LOL. I don't know anything by any of those guys, solo or together. Sorry.
Sting - I liked the Police, mostly Every Breath You Take though. Sting's alright. I like a few things. Faves - If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Desert Rose.
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Don't know them either.

Al Stewart - Back in the 70's I knew and loved Year of The Cat ( my cousin and I would listen to it over and over...) Time Passages and Song on the Radio .
In The Late 80's a buddy of mine bought Al's best of and I realized that I actually knew more of his songs , I borrowed it and recorded all my faves on to cassette.
Faves - On The Border , Year of The Cat , Time Passages , Song On The Radio and Midnight Rocks.
Rod Stewart - His early material (solo and with the Faces) is just awesome. Love Ron Wood's slide guitar playing and the drumming of both Kenney Jones (I believe he spells it that way) and Mickey Waller is mind blowing. BTW - Adam I think I've mentiond it before(and you may already own it) but I highly recommend Rhino's Faces Best of - Good Boys When They're Asleep.
My oldest brother in the last couple of years has referred to Rod as a Lounge singer and I guess with the release of his latest album - he's right!. I do like some of his early 80's output but it's the 70's stuff that really does it for me.
Faves - Maggie May , (I Know) I'm Losing You ,Hot Legs, Gasoline Alley , You Wear it Well ,Borstal Boys , Maybe I'm Amazed , Poolhall Richard ,Twistin' The Night Away, Stone Cold Sober , Sailing , Young Turks , You're in My Heart , You're My Girl(I Don't Want To Discuss It) and Cigarettes and Alcohol.
Stephen Stills - Both Manassas albums are great . I'm so glad I have the CS+N box set. I love his acoustic guitar playing as well.
Faves - Love The One You're With , Johnny's Garden(Manassas) , Change Partners , It Doesn't Matter (Manassas) , Isn't it About Time.
Sting - I like quite a few of his solo tunes I always thought his bass playing was great.
Faves - Fortress Around Your Heart , If You Love Somebody Set Them Free , I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying , You Still Touch Me and his cover of Little Wing
Strawberry Alarm Clock - We had the 45 of Incense and Peppermints in the house when I was little and I've always loved it ( I have it on 45 myself and CD) I picked Up The LP and it's very, very good.
Faves - Incense and Peppermints , Rainy Day Mushroom Cloud , Pass Time with SAC , Birds in My Tree and Strawberries Mean Love and Tomorrow

Al Stewart : Has a really cool voice...very mellow and soothing. His sound is very seventies. Still, I like listening to him every now and then for the whole "Everything is groovy" attitude. Favorites = Year of the Cat, Time Passages, Midnight Rocks Rod Stewart : I'm a BIG fan of his seventies output with Faces and solo. Unfortunately like many guys who rocked in the seventies he seemed to cash in his AARP membership way too early by releasing treacly ballads and lackluster remakes (Elton John, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie). Was excellent in concert back in the day...not sure about now. It's probably time for him to ditch the spiky hair. It's probably time for me to ditch it as well..hehe. Favorites include: Stay With Me (I Know) I'm Losing You Maggie May Every Picture Tells a Story You Wear It Well I Don't Want To Talk About It Twistin' the Night Away Hot Legs Da Ya Think I'm Sexy You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim) Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright) Killing of Georgie (Pt. 1 & 2) The First Cut Is the Deepest Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me) Passion Young Turks Baby Jane Some Guys Have All the Luck What Am I Gonna Do (I'm So In Love With You) Lost In You Stephen Stills : Has a nice voice and plays a fine acoustic guitar. However I'll always remember him most for having a guitar smashed over his head by John Belushi in "Animal House". Favorites = On and On Sting : What on EARTH happened to this guy after he went solo? Just goes to show that Stewart Copeland was the coolest guy in the Police. Sting's work alone has always been too...I don't know...Seal-ish for my tastes. No favorites Strawberry Alarm Clock : They're okay from what I've heard, which is very little. Favorites = Incense and Peppermints

It was Stephen BISHOP who sang On and On and pissed off Mr Belushi in Animal House!

Excellent line-up today!
Al Stewart-I mentioned somewhere (I think it was one of Dawns "Lost Hits" posts) that Al Stewart is one of my favorite lyricists. I wasn't kiddin'! He had a knack for writing witty lyrics that flowed well with the music (If I could do that, maybe one day I will actually finnish MY own CD!!) He ranks high on my list of favorite singer/songwriters, yet I only have the greatest hits CD and like only a handful of songs. But it's the QUALITY, not quantity, that makes him so great in my book!
Rod Stewart-He's one of those artists that I like a few songs by, but overall he irritates me. Nothing he's done since the early 80's has had any impact on me. I think "Infatuation" was the last song I liked by him (mostly because of Jeff Beck playing on it). I need to check out "Every Picture Tells A Story", I'd probably like that album a lot.
Steven Stills-I remember we talked about Manassis on YL shortly before they shut down. I'm still looking to get the album, I want to check it out. I like his work in Buffalo Springfield and CSN, so I'm sure I'll like it. I'm going on vacation in Maine next week. There's a used record store where I'm going that I always go to. I think I'm going on a shopping spree!
Sting-First solo album was good. After that.. eh... Some songs were good, but the Police were SO much better!
Strawberry Alarm Clock-I could not imagine my childhood without Incense & Peppermints. I have a full Anthology CD by them. There's a few really good songs on it. According to the liner notes, Jon Walmsey (who played Jim-Bob on the Waltons) was in the group during the 80's (he may still be, I'm not sure). Faves:Incense (of course), Barefoot In Baltimore, Tomorrow, Sit With The Guru....

When all I'm doing is looking at his butt, how can I possibly criticize a song, or who's he's singing it with? ;D Okay, okay if I have to say something negative, I could do without the pink spandex.
