The CD is actually the soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil show. I don't have the CD yet (it's on my Christmas list) but I have heard samples - and I'm very impressed. George Martin and his son Giles did an outstanding job.I thought the mixing of the drum track from Tomorrow Never Knows together with Within' You, Without You sounded very cool. There are two versions of the CD a regular stereo disc as well as a 5.1 surround version.
Your thoughts?

I haven't heard the entire CD yet, but I heard a few of the tracks on Beatle Brunch the Sunday before the CD was released, and was very impressed. The Martins did a great job giving a fresh and unique twist to the material.
Mark and I were in Las Vegas for a Brian Wilson concert the same weekend that LOVE premiered in July, and I remember it got impressive reviews. We weren't able to catch a performance then, but are thinking of popping over to Vegas again in the near future and checking it out.

I'm actually seeing "Love" when I'm in Vegas at the end of December. I'm pretty excited about it, even though I'm not the biggest Cirque fan. I didn't realize that they were releasing a cd of the music used for the show.

I was wary of this "remixing", hoping that they weren't putting out some techno thing or bastardizing the music.
But then I figured that George Martin wouldn't allow some piece of crap to be released with his or The Beatles name on it. So I'm willing to give it a chance.
On a side note, Brian Wilson was apparently impressed enough to ask Giles if he's do something similar with "Pet Sounds", to which Giles politely declined, saying he didn't want to mess with Brian's genius.

I purchased the CD within the first hour of opening (Future Shop) last Tuesday. It didn't matter the outcome; The Beatles are always my fav. Back to the CD............... WOW!!!! It is great!!!!! Here's a story and I'm telling the truth..... I phoned my one brother about the CD and what it's about. You see, I didn't know that George (Martin) and son were doing a project of mixing, editing, etc. Well, last summer I did something very similar (and I mean similar) with an mp3 music editor (something a bit similar to Cool Edit). What I did was use (Beatles) original tunes and spliced with their alternates (all the anthologies, Let it Be...Naked, etc.). I wasn't familiar with the music editor so my project was basically a lot of trial and error. And not to brag (and my brother says the same), but I was impressed with the outcome. However, the "Love" CD puts my project to shame. But let's remember - George and son had all the MASTER tapes, state-of-the-art facilities, etc. If only I was given the task at hand........ Anyway, back to the CD............... it's worth every penny!! I am so impressed with "Here Comes the Sun," & "Get Back."

I also got this the day it came out. And even though I've yet to listen to it thoroughly, I will say that I love "Get Back" and "Drive My Car"/"The Word"/"What You're Doing". "Drive My Car" is one of my favorite Beatles' songs and to hear that mixed with two other great songs... Gah. Amazing.

I've read about it, and I guess I'm curious about it and will someday probably buy it or at least try to hear a clip.
But I am also skeptical about liking it. Remember my "heard it first" rule. I really don't like anybody messing with the songs I love.

I heard it recently, and quite honestly, I really didn't like it. I won't go as far as to say I HATED it, but kinda felt it was like throwing all the Beatles albums into a blender and this is what came out. It's like new artists aren't selling records anymore, so labels have to keep coming up with new ideas to repackage and re-sell the classics again. I didn't mind "Let It Be... Naked", because it was true to the way the songs were originally concieved and performed. I'm sure the "Love" album works well with the Cirque de Soliel show, but for headphone listening, I'll be a stubborn old goat and stick to the originals!
