Did we watch the Hall ceremonies last night? Granted I only skimmed through it on my DVR after it was over, but it seemed very boring. I actually don't have a problem with Madonna going in and Mellencamp is fine, but just not an exciting year.
At least the Dave Clark Five got to go in, although I feel it's one year too late. Last year's debacle with them not going in was a complete joke. They received MORE votes than Grand Master Flash, but don't get it because there was no hip-hop acts in? WTF is that? Ok, that's fine, but why couldn't it wait one more year since they WEREN'T one of the top vote getters. (And honestly, if you're Grand Master Flash, why would you want it that way, like they're throwing you a bone by putting you in that way?) Ok, there's no prog rockers in either, why isn't The Moody Blues, Yes, ELO, ELP or Genesis going in?
Anyway, that was last year. This year the remaining three members went up there to accept their honor and were very gracious about it. But think about it-one of their members just died recently. If they had gone in last year LIKE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO, he would have been there to accept the honor! Maybe it wouldn't have "completed his life", but it would have been another nice thing to get in his lifetime. Also, they lost another member at the end of 06, so going in last year LIKE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO would have been a nice memorial to their recently departed band mate.
Anyway, that's my opinion.......

I consider hip-hop an extension of (C) rap, and not rock and roll at all. As for the other groups you mentioned - every year we say the same things, but they don't let us pick the inductees. Which gives me a thought (can you smell the burning rubber?) Why don't we have a Click Hall of Fame? Maybe a new board. We could take nominations and vote. Let five (or maybe 10?) acts in every year. Whatcha guys think?

Whatcha guys think? It's not just that they needed to go in earlier, it's that they were actually cheated out of going in when they actually "won" the right to. You are right about the rap thing not being right and that is part of my arguement for Madonna actually going in. They she is not "rock". That may be true, but neither is Grand Flash, and he/they are in. I've thought of that, especially after we did my little poll thing last year where we came up with countless acts that could be possible be considered. I'd say if we did between 5 and 10, that would be good. That way we wouldn't feel restricted if there was actually 6 that were good, but we wouldn't go overboard or too short.

I like some of the earlier rap stuff (offhand, I can't remember what songs Grand Master Flash did, but IIRC there were some that I liked). But this whole R&RHOF debacle smacks of political correctness run amok.

I've mentioned before that no stations up here have ever shown the telecasts. The only time I 've ever seen any footage to do with the ceremonies is when Entertainment Tonight have done "reports." They haven't done anything (to my knowledge) on the "Hall of Fame" in quite awhile. I guess that they are too busy with the latest so called "news" on Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton and Britney etc. There is no question that the DC5 should have been inducted last year. Jann Wenner has way to much "control" (at least that's my understanding) as far as who goes in and when. The guy irritates me. Rap should not be included , in anyway whatsoever. I wonder if there is any footage of last night on YouTube? I'm going to have a look!

Didn't watch it, didn't miss it. Same here. I don't put a whole lot of stock in the R&RHoF myself. I don't need these big shots to tell me what I should like.
