Dollars to Donuts it was the Franklin Institute! It's a way cool museum! www.fi.eduOk, getting younger. I was not quite 2. 10) I'm sure I know it, but I can't place it. 9) Being a PA girl, I am very familiar with this one. I have lots of family in Philly. Spent lots of time there. It's my favorite city. So much cool stuff there. Even though it had nothing to do with it, this song was a big part of the bicentennial, which I spent in Philly. What I can remember of it was really cool. It's also one of the very few songs by Elton John I can stomach. 8) I'm not a fan, but this song is infectious, and you can't help but kind of get into it. 7) I really can't place this one. 6) My mom used to sing this one to me. Apparently I used to sing it back, but when they got to the eyes not being blue part, I used to laugh and say "They're purple". I still get teased about it at EVERY family get togeter. 5) Good Chicago song. Catchy beat and great horns. 4) Again, can't place it but I'm sure I know it. 3) Don't like it at all. Really don't care for her. She did too many re-makes. 2) Loved this at the time. Love to sing it - it's in my range. Just got tired of it after awhile. 1) I'm not fond of America - way overplayed around here, but this song is good. It's got a good beat and sound. I'll bet that was great to have spent the Bicentennial in Philly! I also remember hearing 'Philadelphia Freedom' a lot that summer, even though it was a year old at that time and, as you said, didn't have anything to do with the Bicentennial celebration. Great memories! LOL about 'I'm Not Lisa'! Boy, family members never forget those things, do they?

Well, let's see what we've got here... Don't think I know that Joe Simon song. I didn't know that story about Philadelphia Freedom and Billie Jean King. Very interesting. Love John Denver. Love that song. Always liked Love Won't Let Me Wait. Haven't heard it for years. I'm Not Lisa--Good tune. One you don't hear very much anymore. Old Days--Great song. Coulda been the YL theme song! Bad Time--Love this one! Grand Funk is/was a great band! When Will I Be Loved--Linda's one of my favorite singers, and I enjoy this one by her. Love Will Keep Us Together--I was a closet Captain and Tennille fan. I had to hide my albums from my friends so they wouldn't make fun of me. LOL! But I always thought they were both quite talented. Sister Golden Hair--Good song from a good group. I enjoy them a lot. 'Old Days' would have been a great theme song for YL! LOL about the Captain and Tennille albums! Do you remember their TV show from 1976-77? They were always entertaining to watch. I think Toni Tennille is still recording, mostly standards and jazz tunes.

Philadelphia Freedom - Aside from Don't Go Breakin' My Heart, this is my favorite from Elton! Thank God I'm a Country Boy - Never admitted it when he was still alive, but I've always liked John Denver and this song. Even if you're not a fan (generally speaking), you can't deny that he sure was proud of where he came from.. and I think that's one of the reasons why I've always liked him. When Will I Be Loved - Love it! Love Will Keep Us Together - I haven't listened to their greatest hits album in years, but I think I'll give it a listen this weekend! This has always been one that I have to sing along to. Sister Golden Hair - Great, great song. I know what you mean about John Denver, and I agree. He seemed to be a man who appreciated the simple things in life, and as you say, was proud of where he came from. I think those qualities really came through in his music. I don't listen to the Captain & Tennille often, but when I do, I'm always reminded of how much I enjoy their music. 'Love Will Keep Us Together' is a great song to sing along to!

Sure is!! No it didn't! It was only for one night and we had a huge hailstorm around 6 pm and my tent went down. I slept in the car. Very muggy and uncomfortable. That definitely doesn't sound like much fun. It seems like just about every time I've camped in a tent, it's rained. I remember one time rain came in through the front door flap and completely soaked my sleeping bag!

1975 was a peak in pop music! I put 76 just one notch below, and then I think music never achieved this height again.
I mean, look at this list! One of Elton's very best, a wonderful nostalgic Chicago song, plus my number one songs from America and Grand Funk!
Throw in decent tunes from John Denver, Linda Ronstadt and Captain & Tennille, and you have quite a list!

I think Toni Tennille is still recording, mostly standards and jazz tunes. I do remember their TV show. I believe I watched it regularly. I remember Toni on a morning talk show a couple of years ago (maybe Regis and Kathie Lee), and she sang a song (no idea which song, though. LOL.) I guess she was promoting a new album. I haven't heard much of anything she's recorded recently, however.

I don't remember hearing either the Joe Simon or the Major Harris songs back in the day - I think it's only been in the last 3 years that I've been familiar with 'Get Down'. Here's a link to clips of both of them: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=145309. Linda's version was the first one I heard also, Ken. I've always thought she did a wonderful job with it. Isn't America's stuff awesome? I've heard 'Sister Golden Hair' many times over the years, but I'll never tire of it. I agree, the guitar work on the intro is great! Thanks for the link Dawn - it's now part of my favorites list. There both great tunes and I was right I'd never heard either one - until last night !

So many of my very favorite songs were recorded in the mid 70's - those were outstanding years for music! Just about every song was great, and there was so much diversity in musical styles!

They really were enjoyable to watch! I've heard a couple of her more recent songs on a "nostalgia" radio station, and they're pretty good. Her voice is really well suited to those styles of music.

I really like that site - as far as song clips go, it's one of the most complete sites I've found. I remember someone at YL mentioned it in a post, and I've been using it ever since.
