10. Angel – Madonna 9. Voices Carry – ‘Til Tuesday 8. Everytime You Go Away – Paul Young 7. You Give Good Love – Whitney Houston 6. Would I Lie to You? – Eurythmics 5. The Search is Over – Survivor 4. Heaven – Bryan Adams 3. Raspberry Beret – Prince 2. A View to a Kill – Duran Duran 1. Sussudio – Phil Collins
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

There are some good songs here:) 10. I had a listen to this - I don't remember hearing this at all back then . It slipped right by me LOL . 9.Great song - I remember taping it off the radio at the time . I included it on a compilation CD I made awhile back. 8.I really liked this along with Oh Girl, whatever happened to him? 7.One word - Yuck 6.This has to be my favorite from Annie and Dave. A buddy of mine was a BIG fan in High School. 5.I just had a listen - Wow! it's been quite a long time since I've heard this. 4. Bryan! - Love it - saw the video numerous times.Whenever I listen to it , it reminds me of a girl who was in the concert band with me that I had a huge crush on in Grade 12 - "sigh" 3. Iwasn't a huge fan of Prince - But I really liked this one . The video was cool too - I think the best video he ever made. 2. I remember seeing them perform this on the Live Aid concert and Simon 's voice cracked . He made this "eeeeeeee" sound LOL I'll never forget it . I remember they were having alot of sound problems (feedback etc on stage) I think I might have the video clip on cassette somewhere. 1. I've said it before but Phil was everywhere! . Even though the video and the song itself were played it seemed like every 5 minutes back then. I still really liked it.

Just about my favorite time in music. Would have been looking forward to 7th grade (where I became best friends with my best friend who is still my best friend to this day - I'm an only child, and she's the closest thing I have to a sister), and I was a full fledged Durannie, having my room literally wallpapered w/pics of the band, and JOHN! I was also the only person I knew who had seen the complete, uncut version of "Girls On Film" (thanks to my Durannie penpal in England) and it gave me a bit of legend status in school. 10) I wasn't into the whole "Like A Virgin" thing, but this song was good. I had a friend who did the whole lace gloves/boytoy beltbuckle/cross earring deal. 9) Love this song. It has a good set of lyrics. 8) Love Paul Young! Have his greatest hits cd. 7) Not a big Whitney fan. 6) Great song - reminds me of "One Crazy Summer" 5) A song I used to dedicate to a guy I really liked who never liked me back....... 4) Not a bad song - a bit overplayed around here. 3) Great Prince song - one of the last with the Revolution. 2) AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! JOHN TAYLOR - NEED I SAY MORE? 1) I loved it at first, but kind of got sick of it. The whole album, though, is a great album.

Well let's see...I haven't been here for a couple of days. I'll try to catch up on these posts. Angel--Always liked this Madonna song. One of my favorites by her. Voices Carry--Interesting lyrics. Aimee Mann is a great singer/songwriter. I have a solo album of hers. It's very good. Everytime You Go Away--Ahh, Paul Young. *Swoon*. He was such a cutie! And this song was really good. I like it. You Give Good Love--Yuck. Would I Lie to You--Great tune. Great group. Like this song a lot. The Search is Over--Kinda schmaltzy. Don't care for it much. Heaven--REALLY schmaltzy. Don't care for it at all. Raspberry Beret--Love it! Love Prince! A View to a Kill--Duran Duran was never one of my favorites. I'll pass on this song. Sussudio--It was ok the first 10,000 times I heard it. It was that 10,001st time that really did me in. ;D

I'm not sure what became of Paul Young - it seemed like he just disappeared from the charts after the late 80's. I always liked his songs, especially 'Come Back and Stay' from 1984. Oh, high school memories! 'Heaven' always makes me think of my junior prom that spring. You are so right about Phil being everywhere back then! I always thought 'Sussudio' had great percussion work.

I can relate to what you're saying - I'm an only child too, and I also became friends with my closest high school friend back in 7th grade. 'The Search is Over' - I know the feeling. I unfortunately had that happen to me a few times when I was a teenager. Duran Duran is one of my favorite bands from the 80's. Their songs never fail to take me back!

LOL about 'Sussudio'!

Hi Dawn.
1985 is still the last year that I collected, and a lot of the songs were fill-ins. I saw the song listed, had no idea what it was, but then bought or later downloaded it anyway.
Voices Carry - Totally missed this in "the day". Saw it listed, and had no idea between Til Tuesday and Voices Carry as to which was the group name and which was the song title. Then I heard it and said "oh yeah now I remember it" Turns out I kinda liked it, just didn't know what it was.
Every Time You Go Away - always liked this one.
The Search Is Over - LOVE this song. All time Top 100 material - Words are corny, but a great melody, and I especially like the piano.
Raspberry Beret - Definitely not a Prince fan, but this song I've always liked.
Sussudio - Hated it the first time I heard it, and it was all downhill from there.
More-or-less neutral on the rest.

Some good ones here, but I remember getting more into hard rock around this time. I think it was Whitney Houston that drove me away from top 40.

I think 1985 was the last year in which I really liked the majority of the songs. After that, it was much more hit and miss with me, and after 1990 especially, pretty much all miss, with a few exceptions. I've always liked Survivor's music, and have their greatest hits on cassette. 'The Search is Over' was a little bit of a departure in style for them, but it's well done. I like the piano also.

Looks like I got some catchin' up to do!
To me, the last truly great year of top 40 radio was probably 84, but this was a good last gasp before the crapola of 86 & 87 set in! Good stuff on here!
Angel is one of my fave Madonna songs, and so overlooked. I mean, it hit the top 5, and DIDN'T make the greatest hits!
Voices Carry is a good one.
Heaven and Raspberry Beret are some of the better songs by those artists.
And although I am sick of it now, I liked sussuido then, and I love the album!

I completely agree about 1984 being the last great year for top 40. 1985 was pretty good too, but after that, it got much more spotty. I've never understood why 'Angel' wasn't included on her greatest hits. It definitely should have been! No Jacket Required is a great album. Did I ever tell you the story about 'Sussudio' and the $500 radio prize?

Hi Dawn
Except for Sussudio, A View to a Kill, & Would I Lie to You, I'm not real crazy about in these songs. Not much excited me (musically) in 1985.

'A View to a Kill' is great, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to get as much airplay as many of their other songs. 'Would I Lie to You' is another good song.
