Great song from a great album. This is U2 at their creative peak and it shows. But what was up with that video with Bono rolling around on the hoods of cars in Las Vegas?

9. Head to Toe – Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam
All over the radio, as was the #1 followup Lost in Emotion. This was their most successful year on the charts.

8. Something So Strong – Crowded House
Can't compare to the next single "Don't Dream It's Over", this is middle of the road pop. Not one of my favorites.


7. Funky Town – Pseudo Echo
Wow, here is one I had forgotten. Probably because I haven't heard it on radio since the 80's. Not sure if remaking the strictly disco #1 smash from 1980 by Lipps Inc. was such a good idea for a British New Wave/Synth band.

6. Point of No Return – Expose
Sounded JUST like "Come Go With Me". Remove the lyrics and the two are nearly identical. That was a major flaw with the Freestyle sound which was hitting it's peak in the late 80's. Good group out of Miami, just not much creativity with mixing the backing tracks.

5. Don’t Disturb This Groove – System
Nice mellow floating-down-the-river-on-a-summer-day kind of song. This was in the days when songs with a sexual message were still somewhat subtle. Boy has THAT changed!

4. Songbird – Kenny G
Only recording I like of his. This one is actually rather pleasant. Too bad Janette M. isn't here...she would really rip this song apart ;D

3. Shakedown – Bob Seger
Formulaic garbage marks the continuing descent of Bob Seger's once respectable career. This track from Beverly Hills Cop II was completely incongruent with his style, yet still managed to give him his first and only #1.

2. I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) – Whitney Houston
Very overplayed. Very very very VERY overplayed!!!!!!

1. Alone - Heart
Liked 'em better when they rocked but this and "These Dreams" were decent ballads.

You are absolutely right about Expose's songs - they really do sound alike!

I was thinking the same thing about Janette. I know she had pretty strong feelings about Kenny G when she responded to Sat's opinion post about him on YL. As Sat mentioned, we've sent her several invites, but she hasn't joined as of yet.

I agree about Whitney Houston's song being overplayed. I don't listen to adult contemporary radio often, but on the rare occasions I do, I still hear it quite a bit!

Still Haven't Found--Probably my favorite U2 song, which isn't saying much. ;D

Head to Toe--Never liked Lisa² and Her Cult Jam.

Something So Strong--S'allright. Nothing special.

Funky Town--I vaguely remember this, but haven't heard it in eons.
Point of No Return--I'd probably know that if I heard it, but it's not ringing any bells at the moment.

Songbird--Kenny G should be the Kenny on South Park, so somebody could kill him every week. ;D ;D

Shakedown--Love Bob Seger, but this was not one of his better songs.

...Dance With Somebody--Really tired of it.

Alone--Good tune by Heart, off of a good album. My favorite on the list today.

LOL about Kenny G! I can listen to him in VERY small doses, but after a while, his music is grating.

I agree about Bob Seger. His classic stuff is great!

I see yet again I am about the only person who enjoyed this time in music. I was learning the joys of marching band at that time, almost into 9th grade.

4) This one is tolerable. I owned a Kenny G tape at one time. I played the sax in Jazz/Rock Ensemble. I respect him, but he's not one of my faves. I also liked Silouette, and Against Doctors Orders.
3) No. I'm not a Seger fan to begin with, and this was WAY overplayed.

1) This was ok, but I prefered their other later releases, like Who Will You Run To and Nothing At All

I agree, the original 'Funky Town' is great! I've never really warmed up to Pseudo Echo's version, though.

'Songbird' is the one Kenny G song I can listen to. It brings back memories of driving along the interstate at night en route to Massachusetts in June 1987.
