Let's go back 17 years today. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on July 19, 1986.
10. Love Touch – Rod Stewart 9. Your Wildest Dreams – Moody Blues 8. There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) – Billy Ocean 7. Glory of Love – Peter Cetera 6. Who’s Johnny- El DeBarge 5. Holding Back the Years – Simply Red 4. Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins 3. Nasty – Janet Jackson 2. Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel 1. Invisible Touch - Genesis
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Only songs on this chart I like are Danger Zone (Kenny Loggins, the soundtrack king), Sledgehammer, & Invisible Touch (nice to see Genesis & P. Gabriel sitting on top of the chart.

Hi Dawn:)
10. 80's era Rod Stewart was kind of uneven. I guess this one's ok but not his best by any means. I have it as part of his box set - but it's not a tune I rush to listen to.
9.Good tune - always loved The Moodies. Have it on disc.
8.Was never a big Billy Ocean Fan.
7.Probably heard this one , but it's been a long while. Why didn't he just stay with Chicago?
6. eh - nothing special . I do remember hearing this a few times
5.Yeah - good one
4.Kenny was really rollin' out the hits . Heard this a fair bit.
3.I can take it or leave it.
2.I really liked this (still do). Very cool video as well.
1.Another fave!

Wow, this was 17 years ago?? YIKES!
Saying the 80s were uneven for Rod is an understatement! The early stuff like Young Turks was good, and Forever Young is also good. This tune I can leave.
Billy Ocean's, DeBarge's and Simply Red's songs are beyond bad.
Cetera's, Loggins', Janet's, & Genesis songs are all average. SO sick of Sledgehammer!
Winner of the day is the Moodies!

I agree, that is a neat coincidence about Genesis and Peter Gabriel occupying the top 10 positions! I've always liked Sledgehammer a lot, and Invisible Touch is pretty good, too.

I kinda like one or two of his solo hits, but not as much as his work with Chicago, especially the early-to-mid 70's songs. Peter Gabriel has some really eye-catching videos. I've always liked this one, and also 'Steam'. There's a song I haven't heard in ages!

I agree with you and Ken about Rod. He had some good songs, like 'Young Turks', but some of the others, particularly from the mid-to-late 80's, weren't great. 'Your Wildest Dreams' is a favorite of mine as well. I wish it got more radio airplay. For some reason, the classic rock stations here won't play it.

I would have finished 7th grade, which was a good year, but I would not have known that 8th grade would be my worst ever. I would have been looking forward to the Monkees Reunion show.
10) This song was ok, but because it was attached to a movie I think it was overplayed. Didn't like the movie or the video, which was just a long coming attractions trailer. 9) Love this one. When the Moodies came out with their next release "Sur La Mer" and the song "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" we would go and see them live. One of the best shows I've ever seen. 8) Don't like this guy at all. Another one for me to wipe out to at the roller rink. 7) EW! Another one attached to a movie that was way overplayed. And I didn't like this movie either. The local soft rock station still plays this at least once a day. 6) I like Al's "Here's Johnny" better. Up until just a few years ago I didn't understand the song. Another one attached to a movie, and this one didn't even fit the movie (and I didn't care for that movie either). 5) Great song! So soulful. A great one to sing along to if you're tipsy, or in a slightly depressed mood. 4) What is it with the movie songs? At least this one was better than "Take My Breath Away" and I like Berlin. And no, I didn't like this movie either (I know, broken record) 3) I never saw what was so great about Janet Jackson. This is no exception. 2) Love this one. I also loved "Big Time". This one had a groundbreaking video. 1) As Genesis songs go, it's not one of my favorites.

I think you're right about the reason for 'Love Touch' being overplayed. I always meant to see the movie, but never got around to it. I always thought the same thing about 'Who's Johnny' - I never saw any connection to the Short Circuit storyline. Wonder why they chose that song? I didn't much care for Top Gun either, but the soundtrack had some good songs on it.

Hey Dawn!
Catch-up time for me again!
I'll be quick.
No super faves here, but I do like most of the songs. The one exception is Janet Jackson. I can't stand her, and won't listen to her. The Gabriel is barely passable.
I know the El DeBarge song has been panned many times in the past, but I kinda like it. I guess it's catchiness is appealing.
Not My favorite Billy Ocean, Rod, Kenny Loggins or Moody Blues. But they are all decent.
I got a little tired of Invisible Touch, but I'm beginning to at least tolerate it again.

Good to see you back - we've missed you! 'Invisible Touch' is a good song, but I agree that there was a point when it was a little overplayed. For some reason, the radio stations here tended to play the songs from the Invisible Touch album more than their other ones.
