I remember them all. An dlike three of them - "Gold", "Boogie Wonderland", and "I Want You to Love Me". That Kenny Rogers song sing is the worst of his songs, IMO.
I didn't know the Emotions sang on "Boogie Wonderland". Too bad they didn't have more hits, they were great singers!

Some excellent tunes are included here !
Gold - Just an awesome track - always loved it Shine a Little Love - Wo Hoo! Jeff Lynne - bought this 45 at the time.
I Want You To Want Me - I never ever tire of hearing this, I bought the 8 - track of Budokan back then and played it so often I lost count LOL
Ring My Bell - There are better disco tunes.
Makin ' It - I don't recall hearing this back in '79 I just knew Dave from The Dr. Pepper ads . Didn't hear it until I bought the Super hits of the 70's disc a few years ago. It was the theme song to a very short lived TV Show which I don't recall either - do you Dawn ?
I like both Donna Summer tunes.
Boogie Wonderland is catchy - heard it plenty.
Good Times - Yup thought this was Ok as well.
She Believes in Me - Kenny was in top form at this point - it's too bad the older country artists (Dolly , Kenny , George Jones etc are now totally ignored by Country radio - a real shame.

Wow, Donna with two songs in the top 5! That didn't happen much since the days of the Beatles! (Ok, maybe with the Bee Gees) Artists usually didn't compete with themselves that much at this point.
Both good songs, but neither is my fave from her.
HATE Ring My Bell (A low point of disco, along with Turn the Beat Around) and don't care much for She Believes in Me. Good Times is below average, Boogie Wonderland is good.
I remember playing the single to Makin' it A LOT back then! Wonder where THAT 45 is now??
I Want You to Want Me is good, if a tad overplayed.
Do realize, despite being a huge ELO fan, I never knew Shine a Little Love until recently?? Great tune! Eclipsed today only by.....
Gold!! Stevie was the perfect background/harmony voice on this one! And Lindsay's guitar is all over it!

Oh, the best year! The top 6 in fact, are all disco! This was a high point for music with me! Supplemented by a rock-disco song, a rockin' crowd pleaser, one of '79's most pure "pop" tunes, and one of the year's prettiest ballads. Every song rates at least an "all star" with me! BTW, I was on a cross-country US trip w/Mom and Dad at the time--oh, the early days of those happy meals and cherry shakes!

She Believes in Me--Not bad. I can listen to it occasionally. I saw Kenny Rogers 2 or 3 times in concert during the late 70's/early 80's. He actually puts on a good show. Gold--Really great song. Love Stevie's background vocals on this one. Shine a Little Love--not ringing any bells for me. I Want You to Want Me--Got to meet Cheap Trick about 10 years or so ago when I won backstage passes to one of their concerts. They're the nicest bunch of guys! A lot of fun to hang around. It was a great night. Boogie Wonderland--This is probably my favorite Earth Wind and Fire song. Makin' It--It's ok for a Dr. Pepper spokesman. LOL! Good Times--There were way better disco tunes. Hot Stuff--Great party song. Lotsa memories associated with this one. Ring My Bell--I hate hate hate this song. Despise...loathe...and any other synonyms that might be out there. Bad Girls--More party memories. Two Donna Summer songs in the top 3! You go, girl!

Ahhh, Saturday morning at the roller dicso...... 10) As Kenny songs go, it's not too bad. 9) Love this one. Up until a few years ago, I seriously thought it was Johnny Cash singing - I don't know why. 8) One of my faves by this group. 7) Another good song - love this group. 6) Eh. Disco was getting played out by this point - they'd run out of good songs. 5) I have this 45, and I loved the very short lived TV show - I had a crush on David Naughton and he was comical in the show. TV Land shows in every now and then. My 2 clear memories are that Eileen Travolta was in it, and in one episode he's making ice cream cones and the handle breaks off the machine and ice cream is everywhere. Now it's stuck in my head "I'm solid gold, I've got the goods, They stand when I walk through the neighborhood, I'M MAKIN' IT, I'VE GOT THE CHANCE I'M TAKIN' IT, NO MORE, NO MORE FAKIN' IT, THIS TIME IN LIFE I'M MAKIN' IT, WHOA WOAH WOAH WOAH"......GRRRRRR! Now I gotta dig out the 45! 4) I like this one, but I love Nile Rogers and Chic. Although, I liked the later "Rappers Delight" even better. "Ho-tel, Mo-tel, what'cha gonna do today? Saaayyyy Whhaaattt?" - oh well, at least Makin' It is fading.... 3) I see that Donna Summer is on here twice, and they are my 2 least favorite songs. 2) Again, disco was beginning to suck.... 1) I remember my comment last time regarding the little picture of the reactor at TMI on the jukebox thingie - I was not amused.

Hi Dawn - 1979 was definately a disco year. But with ELO and Cheap Trick, rock was starting to make a comeback.
She Believes in Me - A way overplayed song that added some country flavor to a disco dominated chart.
Gold - Good song
Shine A Little Love - Not my favorite by ELO, but it did add something other than disco to the chart.
I Want You to Want Me - Just one great classic rock song from Cheap Trick. One of the best ever live recordings to hit the charts.
Boogie Wonderland - EWF was one of the very few funk/disco/soul groups from this era I really liked. Passed up a chance to see them live in London. Regret it still today.
Makin' It - Didn't like this song at all.
Chic - Like EWF, another one of the few funk/disco/soul groups from this era I liked. Had a little rock beat in their music.
Hot Stuff & Bad Girls - Donna Summers had (has) a great voice, but I really got tired of her songs after hearing them once a hour on the radio.
Ring my Bell - A very forgettable disco song.

How odd to see Kenny Rogers in with the rest of those tunes. I agree, it is pretty odd to see that song among 'I Want You Want Me' and 'Bad Girls'! It really hung on in the charts back then - it was also in the top 10 on June 16, the last 1979 chart we looked at!

I've heard a few of their lesser-known hits, and they're good as well. For some reason, though, the majority of their songs never quite made it to the top half of the charts.

Oh, I remember that TV show, Ken! You're right, it was very short-lived - I think it only lasted about 2 months or thereabouts. It was supposed to be loosely based on the Saturday Night Fever storyline. I remember it came on either right before or right after a show called Delta House. I couldn't agree with you more about the older country artists. There are some very talented newer artists, but I think the older artists should be getting airplay as well. There is a popular radio station here that plays only classic country, and I enjoy listening to it from time to time.

Oh, 'Shine A Little Love' is awesome! I love it! 'Gold' is great, and is also my favorite on this chart! Stevie and Lindsey really do a wonderful job on it. Have you ever heard his follow-up 'Midnight Wind'? It sounds very similar, and Stevie and Lindsey guest on it also!

Here's a link to a clip of 'Shine A Little Love': www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=99711. I don't remember hearing it as often back in the day as some of their other 70's hits. That's great that you got to meet the members of Cheap Trick! I've always heard really good things about their shows!
