Woo Hoo! Going back to '72 - some great stuff here:) 10. I don't think that there's one person here who didn't learn the words to this very quickly LOL - classic Alice! 9.I love, love ,love this track!! nice slide guitar from Davy I believe this was the first song I remember hearing from Elton. 8.My brother loved this!! well he still does. I have to admit it took awhile for me to warm up to it. I found a copy of the 45 in the 80's - have it on disc as well and I actually have liked it for quite a while now. 7.Good tune - haven't heard it in a while though - RIP Donny 6. Ok I guess 5. Right on! 4.Remember hearing this at the time - just a timeless classic - love to sing along with this one. 3.Maybe Gilbert should have talked with Billy LOL (forgive me - it's very hot here today! This is a great tune. 2.Oh Yeah! don't remember hearing this back in the 70's but it is a big fave! 1.Heard this often growing up . Very nice tune

WHAT?! I'm only the second reply to this thread? 10: OH YEAH! I think it was illegal to start summer vacation before cranking up this one at least once! ;D 9: Vintage early-70s Elton. To this day I have to sing, "Rocket Man...(mumble mumble mumble)" because I have NO clue what that next line is! 8: Nifty one-hit wonder. I'm pretty sure that they were singing this song phonetically(IIRC, they were from Holland). 7: Smooth soul ballad; doesn't get played as often as it should be. RIP Donny again 6: Once in a while is OK with me.(LOVED him in the AFLAC commercial though!) 5: I must be getting curmudgeonly in my old age--every time I hear this one now, I want to scream, "MAKE UP YOUR MIND--either work it out with your wife or go with the other woman!" 4: GREAT song--even though I've heard that it really wasn't representative of their style in general. They should have had more hits. 3. Classic song, but a MAJOR downer. 2. Another great soul classic. 1. I'll take this original over the "We be jammin'" remake any day!

Never heard numbers 8 & 6.
Some good stuff here, some average.
Wow, didn't realize Where is the Love was from 72!
Don't really like the Ingram and Withers songs too much.
School's Out & Brandy are both above average songs.
Best tunes-Rocket Man, Alone Again and Too Late to Turn Back Now.

I'm about half and half on this one - a little before my time.
10) Love Alice Cooper. My husband has a great boxed set of his. 9) Not one of the 4 of his I like, but it's tolerable if it comes on the radio. 8) Not familiar with this one. 7) Like this one, kind of mellow. 6) EW. 5) I know it, but not real fond of it. 4) A good song - got sick of it but I don't mind it now. 3) Depressing, but infectious. 2) Not too bad. 1) Love Bill Withers. This one isn't bad, but nothing compared to Aint No Sunshine or Lovely Day.

Hi Dawn - This isn't a bad chart.
School's Out - One of Alice Cooper's best
Rocket Man - Another good one from Elton
How Do You Do - A really good one hit wonder
Where is The Love - A good song, but a prefer Roberta Flack's solo efforts in the early 70s.
Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - Didn't like Wayne Newton then & still don't.
If Loving You is Wrong I don't Want to Be Right - Didn't like this song in 1972, but it's not so bad now.
Brandy - The best of the two songs Looking Glass put in the top 40.
Alone Again (Naturally) - The best song by Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Too Late To Turn Back Now - Still love this song.
Lean On Me - Was a good song back in the day, got overplayed after the movie, but I don't hear it as often now.

10. School's Out - Alice Cooper I loved this song as a child. Radio stations would always play it on the first Friday in June as summer vacation began. That always made me VERY happy 9. Rocket Man - Elton John One of his best with Bernie Taupin. Great lyrics, very passionate vocal delivery. Gives me chills in fact. If only he could have kept making music as good in later years... 8. How Do You Do? - Mouth & MacNeal Don't remember it. Sounds like a novelty record. 7. Where is the Love - Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway Prefer this duet on 1978's "The Closer I Get to You". R.I.P. Donny 6. Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - Wayne Newton Um..well...it's different 5. (If Loving You is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right - Luther Ingram Powerful vocal delivery. This guy could really sing. A fine R&B tune and one I like to sing on Karaoke nights. 4. Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - Looking Glass I've loved this song since I was four years old. Never heard it from about 1975 to 1989 and then oldies radio came to Atlanta. What a blessing to hear this track again! 3. Alone Again (Naturally) - Gilbert O'Sullivan Somber, sometimes morbidly depressing song about a man who is jilted at the altar. Much as I hate negativity and self-pity, I really like this tune. Good stuff! 2. Too Late to Turn Back Now - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose Another good one. Recently featured in some television commercial with Dick Clark in an elevator. One of a number of family acts that were racing up the charts in the early 70's. 1. Lean On Me - Bill Withers Would it be blasphemy to say I prefer Club Nouveau's 1987 remake? Probably...but I don't really care . Bill Withers is a good singer. This particular song got on my nerves though.

(Love that line "we can't think of a word that rhymes") Rocket Man - 2nd Tier Elton. (which means its only great!) How Do You Do - Really like this one. Too bad they didn't do more. Where Is The Love - Roberta was crankin' them out in '72. This is a nice duet. Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - Aww gee! This is such a sad tearjerker that I can't stand to listen to it. -- Wait a minute, THAT's not the reason I can't stand to listen to it.! If Loving You Is Wrong - Top notch soul song. It's in my all time 250. - Haven't even gotten tired of the Sheets commercial yet. ;D Brandy - You're A Fine Song. Alone Again Naturally - Another tearjerker, but I like this one. Too Late To Turn Back Now. - Good song Lean On Me - Love the original! Me won't be jammin' no time soon, mon!

I had 'School's Out' on an album set called Superstars of the 70's, and I used to play that song on the last day of school with a certain amount of glee! LOL! ;D 'How Do You Do?' was a song I had completely forgotten about until I picked up the K-tel album Believe in Music back in the late 80's. It's a fun, catchy song. I don't remember hearing 'Too Late to Turn Back Now' back then either, but it's a favorite of mine as well!

You know, I've heard 'Rocket Man' many times, but like you, I was never sure of that line! I just looked it up, and it's "Burnin' out his fuse up here alone". 'Where is the Love' is absolutely wonderful. I was very young, but I can remember when that first came out, and I've loved it ever since. I've never liked Club Nouveau's version of 'Lean On Me' at all.

Neither of those gets much airplay anymore, it seems. 'Rocket Man' is a superb early Elton track, one of his best. And 'Alone Again (Naturally)' and 'Too Late to Turn Back Now' are great also.

I like Roberta Flack's solo material also, especially 'Feel Like Makin' Love'. It's such a mellow, relaxing song, perfect for her voice. 'Alone Again (Naturally)' is truly a classic, and one of my favorites of his also. I can't figure out why oldies stations don't play more of his hits - I hear this one occasionally, but that's about it.

His early-to-mid 70's work is superb, but he seemed to lose a little of his edge after that. 'Rocket Man' is one of his finest songs. Oh, I can relate about 'Brandy' - there were so many songs from my childhood that I didn't hear at all from the mid-70's up until 1987, when the first oldies station came here. I remember they played Pilot's 'Magic' not long after they went on the air, and I was so thrilled to hear it again that I was almost literally jumping up and down! At that time, I hadn't heard it since around the fall of 1975!

I agree, 'School's Out' is such a classic - it wouldn't be summer without it! I was always more familiar with Barbara Mandrell's version of 'If Loving You is Wrong' when I was growing up, but Luther's is well done also. Oh, that Club Nouveau version is just horrible. They should have left well enough alone!
