10. Afternoon Delight – Starland Vocal Band 9. You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine – Lou Rawls 8. Kiss and Say Goodbye – Manhattans 7. Got to Get You Into My Life – Beatles 6. Rock and Roll Music – Beach Boys 5. You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees 4. Let ‘Em In – Wings 3. Moonlight Feels Right – Starbuck 2. Love Is Alive – Gary Wright 1. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart – Elton John & Kiki Dee
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

YOW, what a chart! See what I mean about 76 being a peak in music? Four songs are among my VERY faves of all time, and the others are certainly no slouches either! Actually don't know the Manhattans tune. Quite a bit of nostalgia on here. The Beatles putting out an album cut from 66-AND going top 10 with it! And the Beach Boys, while still currently an act, weren't the hitmakers they were 10 years earlier, so this was a comeback of sorts, and of course it was a 20 year old cover! Both good tunes. I actually like the Lou Rawls tune, it takes me back. The Bee Gees song is ok, better at weddings and parties. Paul competing with his old band on Let Em in. Again, another great tune. Now for my four faves-Afternoon Delight. Love this tune. Loved it since I was a kid, although I didn't know the "hidden" meaning back then! Moonlight Feels Right-absolutely one of my fave one hit wonders of the 70's. And for whatever reason, most people don't know what it is when I mention it! Love is Alive-I don't know if I remember this from when I was a kid or not. I remember Joe Cocker covering it some years back and then I think I heard it, and realized it was on Dream Weaver, which I had. I think it blows away Weaver. Don't Go Breaking My Heart-Love it, great duet. More childhood memories. And, IMO, the last great thing Elton did. Great chart.

Who else but the Beatles could have a hit six years after they split up - right on!
Moonlight Feels Right - It still sounds very cool to this day - what a great record - I still listen to it on a regular basis (thank you Rhino!)
Afternoon Delight - always loved the harmonies
Love is Alive - An amazing track - I 'm not sure which tune I like more this or Dream Weaver? Their both so good.
Let 'Em In - Bought this single right away back in '76 . Jellyfish did a very cool live version . love the drumming on this.
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - I was riding around on my bike with a buddy one day and we both had our transistor radio's with us and that's where I heard it for the first time. Bought the 45 a few days later.
Rock and Roll Music - I didn't really like their version at first (sorry Pete ) even though I was a big fan even then. I have warmed up to it a little more since then however.
I don't think I've heard the Lou Rawls tune before - I'll have to check it out.
Kiss and Say Goodbye - A fine tune!
You Should Be Dancing - I've played this a few times at Weddings and it always went over extremly well.

Whew! Finally caught up.
Afternoon Delight - I have already said many times how much I love this song.
You'll Never Find - Love the way Lou gets Waaaay down low.
Kiss and Say Goodbye - Fine soul song.
Got To Get You Into My Life - If they needed to re-release a Beatles song in '76, why this one??
Rock and Roll Music - I love the Beach Boys, but, IMO in this case, Chuck Berry had nothing to worry about. (That under-part "Rockin' and a Rollin'" was just bad.)
You Should Be Dancing - Didn't care for it in the day (I love the Bee Gees, but just tolerate their disco stuff), but this has been growing on me lately.
Let Em In - Great song--- but who are all those people??
Moonlight Feels Right - I was living in Atlanta that year. This was a local group, and got a lot of airplay. Good song -- but what was the laugh about?
Love Is Alive - Gary's best, IMO.
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - My then fiancee (now wife) was teaching 2nd grade in Atlanta, and that fall I went to her school one morning with my guitar and sang and played some for the little kids. I took requests, and a whole bunch of them wanted to hear "Double Break in my heart"

10. Afternoon Delight – Starland Vocal Band (Great one, couldn't escape this one in '76. I don't see why so many people hate this song, considering what it's about!) 9. You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine – Lou Rawls (Good enough) 8. Kiss and Say Goodbye – Manhattans (Don't like it) 7. Got to Get You Into My Life – Beatles (a 10 year old track that fit right in on the radio in '76. Shows how ahead of their time The Beatles were!) 6. Rock and Roll Music – Beach Boys (Good comeback, but I would have rather seen them have an original song in this place. "It's OK" was a good follow-up) 5. You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees (WOW! My three favorite "B" groups in a row!) 4. Let ‘Em In – Wings (I remember Casey Kasem saying once that Paul was the only artist to have two songs in the top ten at the same time, as a member of two different bands. My friend and I always joked that he probably wrote this song when he was having a bath and the doorbell rang. "Hey, Linda, Somebody's ringing the bell, Let 'em in, luv!") 3. Moonlight Feels Right – Starbuck (The leader of this group previously hit the hot 100 in '68 with a group called Eternity's Children. The song was "Mrs. Bluebird", worth seeking out! The Starbuck tune is OK, too!) 2. Love Is Alive – Gary Wright (Like it better than "Dream Weaver") 1. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart – Elton John & Kiki Dee (Classic!)

Very briefly today, the usual silliness at work\
10. Afternoon Delight – Starland Vocal Band Some say it is ridiculously cheesy. I say it's a fun singalong tune that was intended to be light and breezy. Remember their variety show from the fall of '76? I think it only lasted three or four episodes.
9. You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine – Lou Rawls Such a smooth, silky voice. Good tune.
8. Kiss and Say Goodbye – Manhattans Reminescent of early Motown and doo-wop styles. Their best recording IMO.
7. Got to Get You Into My Life – Beatles Decent but certainly not a Beatles classic.
6. Rock and Roll Music – Beach Boys Sorry, this is the band that recorded Surfin USA and Good Vibrations?!? What on earth happened here? When Brian Wilson's genius turned to madness the music suffered...
5. You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees Song that is better known for John Travolta's dance sequence as Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever".
4. Let ‘Em In – Wings Nice Everly Brothers reference. Respectable followup to Silly Love Songs
3. Moonlight Feels Right – Starbuck One of my all time favorites and I know that it is also one of yours! Excellent tune that will always take me back to the best days of my childhood.
2. Love Is Alive – Gary Wright Overplayed then, now I like it.
1. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart – Elton John & Kiki Dee Elton's best duet by far. Fun song. Seems like they performed this on "The Muppet Show".

Not quite 3 years old.
10) I have never liked this one, and I doubt I ever will. 9) I don't know if it's a national thing, but Lou has a telethon every year on tv here, and he's always singing his hits in his oh so smooth voice. 8) I can't place this one. 7) Good song, weird how it was a hit all those years later. 6) Ew. I like the song, but not by them. 5) Great song - it is fun at weddings or parties, especially if someone is good and lit. 4) Good song. Never made much sense to me, but I like it. 3) Love this one! For years, I have tried to duplicate that wicked xylophone solo and haven't even come close. 2) A good song that is a bit overplayed. 1) One of the few of his I like.

Afternoon Delight--Always liked this song, although when it was popular, I probably didn't know exactly what the song was about. Maybe that's why my mom always looked at me funny when I'd sing the song at the top of my lungs. You'll Never Find...--Lou was never a favorite of mine, but this is an ok song. Kiss and Say Goodbye--Another ok song. Got to Get You Into My Life--The Beatles on the charts in '76. Whoodah thunk it? Rock and Roll Music--Not a big Beach Boys fan. You Should Be Dancing--It's only been in the past few years that I figured out that one of the lines in the song is "Whatcha doin' on your back". I could never understand what they were singing. LOL! Let 'Em In--Nice tune. An easy song to sing along to. Moonlight Feels Right--One of my all time favorite songs. Had the 45, and played the life out of it. Remember seeing Starbuck on some show back then--Midnight Special, maybe? Anyway, I always thought the lead singer was so cool. Love Is Alive--Cool song. Not heard much anymore. Don't Go Breaking My Heart--Another favorite song of mine. Really like this one.

Hi Dawn
10. Afternoon Delight - Good song, just got real old real fast. Can barely listen to it today.
9. You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine - Lou's only top 10, good song.
8. Kiss & Say Goodbye - Great soul ballad, the best of their three hits, and one of the best ballads of the year.
7. Got to Get You Into My Life - Great Beatles song, another hit deep into the '70s.
6. Rock & Roll Music - Another good one for the Beach Boys, just not my favorite version of this song.
5. You Should be Dancing - 2nd #1 on the Bee Gees comeback. More would come.
4. Let 'em In - Never really warmed to this song. It's good, just not a favorite from Paul. Maybe it's because it came out between Silly Love Songs & Maybe I'm Amazed, two songs I really love.
3. Moonlight Feels Right - Another song I never warmed to. It's good, just always changed the radio dial when it came on.
2. Love is Alive - Two straight #2s from Gary Wright. This one is just as good as Dream Weaver, although maybe not as well known.
1. Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Fun song from Elton & Kiki. I've always loved this song.

I thought that was cool also about the Beatles and the Beach Boys having top 10 hits at the same time! I was the same way with 'Afternoon Delight' - loved it, but had no clue what they were really talking about! That is surprising about them not knowing 'Moonlight Feels Right'. I remember it got lots of airplay back in the summer of '76. What an outstanding song - #3 on my list of all-time favorites!

Ken, if you ever come across Starbuck's LP Moonlight Feels Right, I highly recommend it! There are some really good songs on it, including 'I Got to Know', which sounds a lot like 'Moonlight'. 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' brings back so many memories of that summer! Love it! Here is a link to a clip of Lou Rawls' song: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=313524. Another one of my childhood favorites!

'Let 'Em In' - I know Paul has a brother named Michael, and an Auntie Jin, but no sister Suzie or brother John. I'm not sure about Phil and Don - possibly the Everly Brothers? I've always wondered about that also! What a cute story about 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'! That was a favorite of mine also back then!

I remember when I was first really getting into the Beatles back in 1986, I was surprised to find that 'Got to Get You Into My Life' had been recorded in 1966. I remember hearing it a lot during the summer of '76, and always associated it with that time. Even today, it seems to fit right in with the rest of the songs on this chart. 'It's OK' is the better of their two 1976 hits, IMO. Like you, I think it would have been better if they'd released an original cut instead of 'Rock and Roll Music'. I'll have to try to find 'Mrs. Bluebird'. I really like Bruce Blackman's voice and arrangements!

I've heard that too about the Starland Vocal Band, and I've always felt that the criticism was a little unfair. The vocals on it are wonderful. It would be cool to see those episodes again! I love those 70's variety shows! It was great to see the Beach Boys back in the top 10 again, but this has never been one of my favorites of theirs. 'Moonlight Feels Right' - That's right, I had mentioned this one in my YL bio! If I had to pick one song to represent the sound and spirit of the 70's, this would be the one. Absolutely love it - brings back great memories of that summer, between 2nd and 3rd grade!

It's good to hear that he's still performing! He really does have a wonderful voice. I agree, 'You Should Be Dancing' is great! I always want to get up and dance whenever I hear it! I love that xylophone solo in 'Moonlight Feels Right'. It does sound as though it would be difficult to play, especially the run of notes at the end.
