Let's take a look at an 80's chart today. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on August 8, 1987.
10. Wot’s It to Ya – Robbie Nevil 9. Alone – Heart 8. Cross My Broken Heart – Jets 7. Who’s That Girl – Madonna 6. Rhythm Is Gonna Get You – Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine 5. Luka – Suzanne Vega 4. Heart and Soul – T’Pau 3. Shakedown – Bob Seger 2. I Want Your Sex – George Michael 1. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

10. ICK. Typical late 80's crap.
9. Great tune. Leave it to a group like Heart to save the chart. Went to number 1!
8. YEESH. Actually don't even remember how this one goes. I need to remember to thank God about that in my prayers tonight.
7. Not one of Madonna's best. Her first two albums were much better.
6. No, it's not.
5. Didn't like this, but I DID like Tom's Diner with D.N.A. Go figure.
4. Ok, guilty pleasure time! Totally love this song, have the single, recently taped the video off VH-1 Classic. Why do I love it? I don't know.
3. Hate it. Not a big Seger fan to begin with, and this wasn't helping matters.
2. George, please don't look at me when you sing this.
1. The singles from this album were overkill. Gimmie The Unforgettable Fire anyday.

10. Never heard it before. But, from Adam's message, I should be happy about that.
9. Not familiar with it but I love Heart, so I can only imagine how great it is.
8. Don't know this one either, lol.
7. Eck. One of the worst Madonna songs ever.
6. I like this one. Catchy.
5. I'm with Adam. Loved Tom's Diner. Ever heard the remake of that they did for Nick at Nite? "I am sitting on the sofa, there's a TV in the corner. I am watching Major Nelson; he is played by Larry Hagman. And he found a little bottle and out popped Barbara Eden, but she couldn't show her bellybutton. All she did was blink. Duh duh duh duh..."
4. Don't know it.
3. Don't wanna know it.
2. I like George Michael, but not this particular song. Lots of women loved it...well, for a while. *cough*
1. Love this song. My fave by U2, probably. Beautiful lyrics. Cher did this song when I saw her in concert. Her version was quite good also.

I loved that Nick at Nite song, especially when they referred to what's his name and say "....who would become Howard Borden...." and they showed him on Newhart! And I also loved how they played a sound clip of Hagman shouting "JEANIE!!" at the end of each verse!

I knew the song was longer, but all I can remember is that first verse. Sad how I've had that memorized for so many years...

Not much here I like, except for the Madonna, T'Pau and U2 songs. "Who's That Girl" is actually my favorite Madonna song, I don't know why everybody is so hard on it. The U2 song is far from their best, but compared to the rest of the chart, it's gold!

Yeah, that was so funny with the "Jeannie!" thing. I knew the song was longer, but all I can remember is that first verse. Sad how I've had that memorized for so many years... That song was on a compilation called "Tom's Restaurant", which contained the Jeanie, DNA/Vega versions as well as other bizarre covers. I don't think it's still available, I just know a friend of mine has it.

Actually, I have a cousin about your age, and she was one of the "coolest" kids in high school. Yet she knew ALL the words to the Nick at Nite song to The Dick Van Dyke Show. "Dick......Van......Dyke is Robert Petrie, who comes home......." To me, that is the greatest thing, that as cool as she was, she still memorized that.

10. Wot’s It to Ya – Robbie Nevil Never gave this followup to C'est La Vie a second thought, actually. Zero airplay for the past 15 years.
9. Alone – Heart Great vocals, great guitar work, bland song.
8. Cross My Broken Heart – Jets Just plain cheesy. Can't think of a better adjective.
7. Who’s That Girl – Madonna One of Madonna's worst 80's singles. The movie wasn't too hot either...
6. Rhythm Is Gonna Get You – Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine I don't like this one either. Sigh...
5. Luka – Suzanne Vega Or this one...
4. Heart and Soul – T’Pau Decent although entirely obsolete single by a band I know absolutely nothing about.
3. Shakedown – Bob Seger As I said before, not Bob's style. Better than most of this list though.
2. I Want Your Sex – George Michael No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
1. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2 Good tune with reflective and insightful lyrics. Spiritual and uplifting to me. Not as cynical as some might think.

Hey Dawn!
These late '80s charts are definitely neither my strong-point nor my greatest source of enjoyment.
10. Wot’s It to Ya – Robbie Nevil Don't know it. (By the title, it sounds like I'm glad I don't
9. Alone – Heart - probably the best song on the chart today. Very fine!
8. Cross My Broken Heart – Jets - Know the group, but don't remember the song.
7. Who’s That Girl – Madonna - Don't really care who that girl is.
6. Rhythm Is Gonna Get You – Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine - Generally don't like Latin-Beat songs, but this one is admittedly very catchy.
5. Luka – Suzanne Vega - I don't like preachy songs.
4. Heart and Soul – T’Pau - Isn't she Spocks girl friend on Star Trek? ;D
3. Shakedown – Bob Seger - I like several Seger songs. This one is terrible!
2. I Want Your Sex – George Michael - OK. You're scaring me here! (The only thing more laughable about this song was the "cleaned-up" version that some stations tried to play.)
1. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2 - Very fine song. 2nd best song on chart from a class group, IMO.

Not sad at all. Actually, I have a cousin about your age, and she was one of the "coolest" kids in high school. Yet she knew ALL the words to the Nick at Nite song to The Dick Van d**e Show. "Dick......Van......d**e is Robert Petrie, who comes home......." To me, that is the greatest thing, that as cool as she was, she still memorized that. Remember this one? "Oh my 3 sons, yes my 3 sons, it's my 3 sons, on Nick At Nite. They've got a dad, his name is Steve, he's got a job, he's really tall. And then there's Bub, he makes them food, they've got a dog, it's my 3 sons (on Nick At Nite)." Sung to the tune of their theme song. And the guy who would become Howard Borden was Major Healy. I've got a bunch of those spots scattered all over the place because of religiously taping the Monkees in the effort to get them all back in the 80's. I've also got a bunch of spots of famous people banging the MTV gong (and a pic of the Monkees banging the MTV gong) and pretty much the whole "Stevie Washington: Angry Youth" series from years of religously taping Remote Control. Why? I don't know - I was 15 and thought Colin Quinn and Steve were THE thing. I used to write to them and I got 2 letters back on Remote Control stationary but I have no clue where they are. My best friend has tons of pics of me wearing my various Remote Control t-shirts (I owned about 10 - and 1 Club MTV). Ok, I'll shut up about that now. This wasn't a bad year. 10) Wot's It To Ya - LOVE this one. 9) Nah. I didn't mind later Heart, but I didn't like this one, and wanna puke everytime I hear All I Wanna Do. 8) LOVED The Jets - This one is good, but not as good as Rocket 2 U. 7) No. I really didn't like this one, and this was the time that Madonna shifted away from the stuff I liked into the stuff (through her current stuff) that I don't like. 6) Was never really a fan. She was in that nasty bus accident not too far from here. 5) No thanks. I too loved Tom's Diner, but all the kids were raving about this song because it was about child abuse and good for her for tackling the topic, but the lyrics just really aren't all that great. 4) LOVE THIS ONE!!!! One of my all time faves. According to the Living In Oblivion CD that this appears on, the group named themselves for the Vulcan Princess of Star Trek (you are right, H2). They're from Shrewsbury England, and the lead singer is Carol Decker. 3) Not a fan of this man, or this song. 2) I loved him with Wham, but I wish the whole Faith album would simultaneously dissappear from the face of the earth. 1) Love this one. Lots of people bust on it, but I really enjoy it.

Gimmie The Unforgettable Fire anyday. I agree about this not being one of Madonna's better songs. It's okay, but not nearly as good as say, 'Borderline' or 'Lucky Star'. 'Heart and Soul' is a pretty good song - I like the synths on it. 'I Want Your Sex' is just horrible. I never liked it at all.

I have been wondering for years what that song was with the "Jeannie" references - thank you!! I think I might even have that clip on tape, from when I taped some I Dream of Jeannie episodes off of Nick at Nite years ago.
