Let's go back 26 years today. These were the songs that occupied the top 10 spots on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on August 13, 1977.
10. You Made Me Believe in Magic - Bay City Rollers 9. You and Me - Alice Cooper 8. Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise 7. Easy - Commodores 6. My Heart Belongs to Me - Barbra Streisand 5. Do You Wanna Make Love - Peter McCann 4. (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher - Rita Coolidge 3. Best of My Love - Emotions 2. I'm In You - Peter Frampton 1. I Just Want to Be Your Everything - Andy Gibb
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Pretty good chart, overall.
Don't know 10 & 6.
Do You Wanna Make Love is typical 70's cheese, but not awful.
I'm in You I didn't know back then, and when I got his greatest hits, I was disappointed in it.
I Just Want to Be Your Everything is a cool tune.
Best of My Love is alright, but not the "best" of disco.
Now for the 4 best:
(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher-I like this better than the original, big time. My fave by her.
Whatcha Gonna Do?-classic Pablo Cruise and my second fave by them.
Easy-The Commadores best, the best thing Lionel ever touched. The reason I bought their greatest hits.
You and Me-Alice's best, the best on this chart. Not one I remembered from my youth until our now defunct 70's station played it and it sounded vaguely familiar. Wish Rhino's collection contained the LP, not the single, version.

10. The Rollers jump on the disco bandwagon . I prefer their pop tunes way better. 9.An excellent ballad. We had the 45 in the house - and I played it often 8.Great tune from Pablo Cruise. 7.Easily one of The Commodores best tracks! 6.Don't remember this . Not a fan of Barbra's 5. I liked this alot back in the day. I have it on Ktel's Music Machine. 4.Great cover! love her vocal. 3.I thought this was pretty good - catchy - heard it quite a bit then. 2.I think this is among his best songs I've always liked it I have it on a mix tape. 1.Excellent song !

This set isn't too bad. This year we would have driven to Texas to visit Uncle Rick (This was not the California trip, but one just to Texas). We towed the camper to California - we stayed in hotels for this trip. We stayed at this dump on the way called The Cocoa Inn. AAA said it was a good hotel, but it was a total dump. If we had not prepaid, we would have went someplace else. Some drunk was pounding on Grandma's door at 2 in the morning screaming for George. In the late 80's, my grandparents went to visit him in Oklahoma, and passed the place, and said it was just as gross.
10) This is a cool song. I got into them when they starred in "The Krofft Superstar Hour". 9) I don't recall this one. My husband has the boxed set. I'll have to look for it. 8) This one is ok. Has a good beat. 7) I prefer Faith No More's version. 6) Ew. 5) This one is ok. For some reason it always makes me chuckle - don't know why. 4) This version is too slow - prefer the original. 3) This song is ok, but a bit repetitive. 2) Not bad, but way overplayed. 1) Eh.

You Made Me Believe in Magic--The Rollers were never my cup of tea, but this song isn't too bad.
You and Me--Excellent song. For some reason, I always kinda liked Alice's ballads better than the rockers.
Whatcha Gonna Do--Love Pablo Cruise. Still get the ol' Cruise albums out every once in awhile and listen to 'em. Lotsa great memories of them, and of this song.
Easy--I'm with Sat on this one. Absolutely their best song, imo.
My Heart Belongs to Me--Not a big Babs fan, but this is a pretty good song. I like the lyrics.
Do You Wanna Make Love--Or do you just wanna fool around? I always thought to myself, "hmm...those are the choices?" LOL!
Higher and Higher--Really good song by Rita. Like it a lot.
Best of My Love--Never liked it much.
I'm in You--Not one of Peter's best.
I Just Want to Be Your Everything--Probably my favorite Andy Gibb song.

Hi Dawn - Not sure what I was doing in the summer of 1977. Stationed at Edwards AFB, young & single, probably out doing stupid stuff, but not listening to the charts. This (imo) is a pretty weak chart.
10. You Made Me Believe in Magic - Was never a real Bay City Rollers fan, this was one song I gave a miss.
9. You & Me - Actually not a bad song by Alice Cooper.
8. Whatch Gonna Do? - Again, not a real Pablo Cruise fan. Not a bad song, just not a favorite.
7. Easy - If I had to pick a 2nd favorite Commodores song (after Brick House) this would be it.
6. My Heart Belongs to You - Ouch. Don't like much of what Barbra did.
5. Do You Wanna Make Love - Another cheesy 70s ballad
4. Higher & Higher - Easily my favorite song on this chart.
3. Best of My Love - Great R&B song.
2. I'm in You - Peter should have stuck to rock & left the ballads to others. Bad song.
1. I Just Want to Be Your Everything - A real force in popular music in 1977 & 1978. Doesn't mean I liked him.

'Easy' is definitely one of the Commodores' best. I remember hearing it a lot that summer, and listening to it always makes me think of that time. I actually bought the 45 of 'You and Me' back then by mistake, thinking it was another song! I didn't mind, though, because I liked it a lot also. One of my favorite Alice songs.

Music Machine is a great album! I remember I found a copy of it in a used record shop back in 1987. It was so nice to hear those songs again back then, as I hadn't heard some of them in quite a while! My best friend and I used to sing the parts to 'Best of My Love'! I've always liked that one. Like you, I think 'I'm In You' is one of Peter's best songs. It's a little different in style from most of his other hits, but has such a great sound.

That Cocoa Inn doesn't sound like a very good place to stay at all! My parents had a similar experience with a motel when they were in California on vacation back in the late 80's. 'You Made Me Believe in Magic' is my favorite Bay City Rollers song. I remember they were huge back then! 'You and Me' is a really nice song from Alice, but hardly ever heard on the radio these days, unfortunately.

I really like Pablo Cruise's music also. I have their album Worlds Away, but haven't listened to it in awhile. I need to get reacquainted with it one of these days. LOL about 'Do You Wanna Make Love'!

Admittedly, 'Do You Wanna Make Love' is a bit on the cheesy side, but I've always liked it. ;D Rita really did a wonderful job with 'Higher and Higher', definitely making the song her own. I wish her songs got more airplay these days. She is really quite talented.

Hey Dawn! Seems like a typical late '70s mix.
10. You Made Me Believe in Magic - Bay City Rollers This was OK, but not great. I like some of their earlier stuff better.
9. You and Me - Alice Cooper Woo Hoo! I love Alice's hard stuff, but IMO his ballads rule. This one is Top 250!
8. Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise Probably their best.
7. Easy - Commodores Liked it at first, but grew tired of it.
6. My Heart Belongs to Me - Barbra Streisand - I heard a DJ calling this a "Barbra's in love with herself song". What else is new?
5. Do You Wanna Make Love - Peter McCann Light fluff. Eh.
4. (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher - Rita Coolidge - Not bad, but not on par with Jackie's original.
3. Best of My Love - Emotions - So-so.
2. I'm In You - Peter Frampton I never saw what people got so excited about with Frampton. This one was OK, but nothing to write home about.
1. I Just Want to Be Your Everything - Andy Gibb Very catchy song. It kinda grew and grew on me.

He has an excellent singing voice, and those slower songs showcase that. I’ve always liked ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’ as well. I need to get a greatest hits compilation of theirs sometime – they really had a great sound. That DJ had a good point about Barbra Streisand! I can’t say I care for her “diva” personality very much, but I do like many of her songs.
