Let’s take a look at 5 songs from 1979 that haven’t received much airplay since their chart run back in the day. Anyone remember these?
1. Different Worlds – Maureen McGovern (Billboard #18)
This song was used as the opening theme for the ABC-TV series “Angie” which aired from 1979-1980 and starred Donna Pescow. It was also the second top 40 hit for Maureen, following her award-winning number one hit ‘The Morning After’. It first appeared in the Billboard top 40 on August 11. Here is a link to a clip, from Maureen’s Greatest Hits CD:

2. Midnight Wind – John Stewart (Billboard #28)
Appearing in the top 40 for the first time on September 29, this was the second of three hits for John, a former member of the Kingston Trio. Like his first hit ‘Gold’, this song features Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on backing vocals. I love this one. A clip of it can be heard here: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=484508.
3. Victim of Love – Elton John (Billboard #31)
This disco-oriented song was quite a departure from Elton’s usual style, and like ‘Nobody Wins’, charted during a bit of a lull in his career. It made its first top 40 appearance on October 27, but remained on the chart for only a few weeks. It hasn’t been included on any of his greatest hits compilations, but can be found on his Victim of Love CD:

4. Precious Love – Bob Welch (Billboard #19)
This has been a big favorite of mine for many years. It was the fourth and final top 40 single for Bob, and first charted in the top 40 on March 17. I remember hearing this on the radio quite often back in the day, but very little in the years since. Here is the link to a clip: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=155822.
5. I Want You Tonight – Pablo Cruise (Billboard #19)
This is one of my favorite Pablo Cruise songs, and like Elton John’s ‘Victim of Love’, is more disco-oriented than the artist's usual style. It first appeared in the top tier of the charts on November 10, and was the fourth of 5 top 40 singles for the group. It’s included on several of their compilations, including the 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=413054.
