10. Fast Car – Tracy Chapman 9. Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses 8. Sign Your Name – Terence Trent D’Arby 7. Hands to Heaven – Breathe 6. I Don’t Wanna Live Without Your Love – Chicago 5. Make Me Lose Control – Eric Carmen 4. I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That – Elton John 3. 1-2-3 – Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine 2. Monkey – George Michael 1. Roll With It – Steve Winwood
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

YIKES!! These are the things nightmares are made of!!
10. Hate her voice, don't understand the critical praise.
9. Without a doubt, the best on here. For awhile, G-n-R were rock and roll's saving grace. One of the best intros EVER.
8. Don't know it, and I'm ok with that.
7. Actually, not a horrible song. Don't own it though.
6. Without Terry AND Peter, it was time to call it a day.
5. EH. Give me She Did it anyday.
4. Oh Elton. How far you have fallen from Grey Seal and Amoreena!
3. No thanks.
2.
1. Ok, but sick of it at this point.
NOTE: Blank space on number 2 was intentional.

10. Fast Car – Tracy Chapman One of 1988's best. Socially conscious lyrics that are sung with passion. Very nice.
9. Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses Their best, without a doubt. Love it even now. This is a masterpiece.
8. Sign Your Name – Terence Trent D’Arby Great voice, great big ego, headed for oblivion.
7. Hands to Heaven – Breathe I'm liking this less and less over the years. Too sappy.
6. I Don’t Wanna Live Without Your Love – Chicago Feh! Give me the Chicago Transit Authority...
5. Make Me Lose Control – Eric Carmen Nothing special.
4. I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That – Elton John Mediocre Elton, which describes everything he's released since the late 70's.
3. 1-2-3 – Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine Awful pop. Downright wretched
2. Monkey – George Michael Hahahahahahahaha. What a piece of **** this song is!
1. Roll With It – Steve Winwood Decent song that was played way too much for me to ever care about.

Ten reasons why my musical tastes were going in an alternative direction in '88!
The Elton song is OK, though, but far from his best...

I love the 80's, but this list is kind 'o crappy.
10) This one got on my nerves, and so did her voice. I liked it when they slammed her on In Living Color (whatever was going on she just turned it into a song) 9) This is one group that I can't stand in any way, shape, or form - I do not like one single song they do. 8) I liked Terrence, but not this song. 7) EW. 6) Ew again. 5) WAY EW. 4) Eh. 3) NO! 2) AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1) Not too bad.

Hey Dawn:)
10.Thought it was ok.
9.Never really was a big G N R fan . Axl's voice really got on my nerves at times. I thought Paradise City was their best.
8. The only tune I remember by Trent is Wishing Well.
7.The band name is familiar , but the song title isn't ringing any bells.
6.I think this is on my Chicago Anthology CD but I don't remember hearing this at the time.
5.It was nice to see him on the charts again:)
4.I actually thought it was kind of catchy.
3.Don't recall this
2.Ewww no thanks LOL
1. Loved it then, love it now.

Hey Dawn!
Interesting chart. I actually have two all time top 250 faves in here.
10. Car - Don't remember it
9. Sweet Child O’ Mine - Woo Hoo! Would you believe the old guy really likes GNR!! This song is fantastic! Love the guitar work by Slash. Even tolerate Axl. All time top 250!
8. Sign Your Name - Don't recall it
7. Hands to Heaven - Don't recall this one either
6. I Don’t Wanna Live Without Your Love - Generally like Chicago's music, but this one was just mediocre.
5. Make Me Lose Control - Yeah! Now that I realize the title is NOT Turn the Radio Up, I know that this is the song that I LOVE! All time top 250. Eric has a great voice.
4. I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That - I agree with those who mourn Elton's decline.
3. 1-2-3 - Not sure I remember this one.
2. Monkey - A dog! A monkey dog!
1. Roll With It - Not a bad song.

'Sweet Child O'Mine' took a little while to grow on me, but I enjoy listening to it now. They definitely gave a rock a boost at a critical time. Those later Chicago songs don't hold a candle to the earlier ones, I agree. Terry and Peter were definitely the group's visionaries, and without them, the music really suffered. LOL about 'Monkey'!

I'm not too fond of Tracy Chapman's voice, but the lyrics to 'Fast Car' are very interesting and thought-provoking, and the simple guitar arrangement is very effective. That Terence certainly thought highly of himself, that's for sure. I like 'Roll With It', but agree that it got a lot of airplay back then.

Although I was still listening to some top 40, by this time I was getting more and more into oldies. The Elton song isn't bad, but you're right, it's not in the same league as his classic 70's songs.

I agree, this isn't the best of lists. That's one of the reasons I'm not really fond of later 80's music in general. There were some good songs, but overall, the quality of music was not nearly as good as it was in the first part of the decade.

I don't remember hearing 'Sign Your Name' that often back in the day, but I did hear 'Wishing Well' a lot. I've been meaning to get some Chicago greatest hits CDs, but I'm not sure whether to go with Greatest Hits Vols. 1, 2 & 3, or with one of the newer collections.

Hey H2! That's pretty cool about your being a GNR fan! I agree, there is some very good guitar work on 'Sweet Child O' Mine'. For quite a while, I thought 'Make Me Lose Control' was called 'Turn the Radio Up' also! LOL about 'Monkey'!
