Well happy early birthday, Dawn!
10. A debut on the whole chart at this position. Incredible and monumental. Their finest hour.
9. Another of 1968's best! Somewhat reminiscent of the Kinks' "All day and all of the night".
8. Still another rock classic! Crank it up! Group named after the late 30's standard; later to hit #1 for Nino Tempo & April Stevens.
7. Nice ballad, but always preferred "Real thing".
6. You'll probably get some "Huh?"s for this one. Short, upbeat selection, flip is her GREAT rendition of "I say a little prayer".
5. Solid bubblegum. Loved this since age 5.
4. Yet one more rock classic; brought a harder, psychedelic edge to the higher rungs of the chart (followed by Deep Purple).
3. Mellow version of the Doors' classic. He's quite a good performer; later did the "Chico and the Man" tune, as well as my all-time fave Xmas tune "Feliz Navidad".
2. Sock it to me! One of the late 60's best country tunes!
1. 5th week on top. A most powerful "together" message tune everyone should relate to. Their best one of all too.
Also around 35 years ago, the McDonald's Big Mac debuted.

Well, today's my dad's birthday, and mine is 30 days from today. Dad would have been 21 for this chart, and in Ben-Wa (sp?) VietNam, working 3rd shift in the sheet metal shop. He found a guy he worked with online last year. It was a big thrill for him.
10) Can't go wrong with this one. 9) This one either. 8) Not bad. Funky beat. 7) Good song. 6) It's not bad. The funky beat saves it. 5) This was a game we played in gym...... 4) So very tired of this one... 3) Never much cared for his take on this song. 2) A good country standard. I like it for her effort to squash small-town gossip. 1) Eh.

Hey Dawn! Good Chart! Two of my all time top 250s on it. 10. Hey Jude – Beatles - Beatles classic. I think they did MANY better songs. This one was kinda simple, but boy, was it ever a hit. I liked it fine, but not so much as siome people must have. I guess people like Adam, who has it at #1 on his Insane list. 9. Hello, I Love You – Doors - Good song, but not my fave by them. 8. Hush – Deep Purple - Woo hoo!! All time top 250... from the two howls of the wolf (often edited out by DJs) all the way through to the end. 7. You’re All I Need to Get By – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell Very good song. RIP, both. 6. The House That Jack Built – Aretha Franklin - Liked it better than the flip. Lady Soul was hot in the late '60s 5. 1,2,3 Red Light – 1910 Fruitgum Co. - Woo hoo!! My second top 250, and my favorite pure bubblegum song of all time. 4. Born to Be Wild – Steppenwolf - Was this the first classic rock song? Has to be close! 3. Light My Fire – Jose Feliciano - It was enjoyable to listen to BECAUSE it was such a different cover. 2. Harper Valley P.T.A. – Jeannie C. Riley - Not bad, but overplayed back in the day. 1. People Got to Be Free – Rascals -- This, I put in the same category as 3DN's Black and White. They think because they have a message (albeit an important one) they can skimp on the music and the arrangement. Never really cared for it.

Also around 35 years ago, the McDonald's Big Mac debuted. Thanks, Dave! That's a good point about 'Hello, I Love You' and 'All Day and All of the Night' - they do have similar melodies. It's one of my favorites from the Doors. I very rarely hear 'The House That Jack Built', but I agree, it's a nice, upbeat tune. "I Say A Little Prayer' is good, too. I have a CD of Jose's, and there are some really good songs on it. I absolutely love the 'Chico and the Man' theme - that brings back so many memories! And 'Feliz Navidad' is a Christmas favorite of mine, also.

'Hey Jude' is definitely a classic. I love Paul's vocals and piano on it especially. 'Hush' is one of my favorites of Deep Purple's. It's a little different from their later work - more psychedelic - but it's great to listen to. I don't hear 'Harper Valley P.T.A.' too often, but I agree that it's a good song, and really makes its point!

I'm with you about 'Hey Jude' - while not one of my top favorites, it's still wonderful, and very well done. LOL! Those wolf howls in 'Hush' are great, aren't they? I wish DJs wouldn't edit them out, as they really add to the mood of the song. Great song from them. '1,2,3 Red Light' is an excellent bubblegum song - very catchy, and always fun to listen to.

I love the footage of them performing this in 1968. That surprises me also about Jeannie C. Riley. She had quite a few country hits, but I would have thought more of her hits would have crossed over to pop. I agree, you can't go wrong with the Rascals - one of my favorite groups of the 60s! I've had my eye on their Rhino greatest hits CD!

The Doors had such a great sound, and this was among their very best songs. 'You're All I Need to Get By' is a nice one from Marvin and Tammi, although there are a few I prefer more, such as 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. I love the acoustic guitar in 'Light My Fire' - very skilled playing from Jose.

10. My number one song of all time! At least Arnie thinks it should be. A classic, to be sure, and good at parties, but I rarely listen to it.
9. Not a fave, too overplayed.
8. Love it, complete with wolf howl in the beginning.
7. Good tune.
6. Don't know it.
5. Don't know it.
4. See my Hey Jude comments.
3. Sick of the Doors version, but it's better than this.
2. Good tune, and Martina covers this in concert almost everytime.
1. Good one. I have the album on vinyl, got it from one of my uncle's friends who was dumping old albums.

That was before my time on YL, but it sounds like this Arnie thought everything should be his way or no way. I’ve never heard Martina’s version of ‘Harper Valley P.T.A.’, but I’m sure she did a wonderful job with it. I really like the Rascals’ stuff. I haven’t heard many of their album cuts, but if they’re anything like the singles, I’m sure I’d like them also.
