I remember hearing ‘Brandy’ quite a bit back in the early-to-mid 90’s, when all the 70’s music was becoming hip again, as you said. I don’t hear it as often anymore, though.

‘Back Stabbers’ is a pretty good one from the O’Jays. I like a lot of their music.

‘Black & White’ does seem a little weak in some respects – as though it wasn’t fully developed, maybe. Still, it has a good message overall, and is kinda catchy.

My Mom had the 45, so I was also familiar with "Rock And Roll Part 1," which actually had LYRICS!

Long Cool Woman--Great song, though I have no clue what the words are.

Backstabbers--OJ? That's cold!

Saturday In The Park--The first straightaway "pop" song they ever did, IMHO at least.

Alone Again(Naturally)--Classic, but a MAJOR downer.

Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me--Mac comes across as chauvinistic and conceited on this one(I read that he was kind of embarrassed by its success).

Black & White--OK, OK, it's simplistic, it's sing-songy, but I like it, asnd it does have a neat history behind it(it was written as a direct response to the Supreme Court decision banning segregation in public schools).

I absolutely agree about Looking Glass having more hits. They had a great sound, but disappeared not long after ‘Brandy’ and ‘Jimmy Loves Marianne’ charted.

I’ve never heard ‘Rock & Roll Pt.1’, but I’ve always been curious about it!

I agree, Mac doesn’t come off too well on ‘Baby, Don’t Get Hooked on Me’. That’s interesting about his being embarrassed by the success of it. He had a few hits afterward, but none would ever match that one in terms of chart success!

I’m with you and Woody about ‘Saturday in the Park’ being the best song on the chart. They don’t get much better than that one!

‘Long Cool Woman’ is one of the songs that stands out from when I was very young – always loved it!

Oh, that piano intro to ‘Saturday in the Park’ is wonderful! One of these days I’ve got to learn it on the piano! (I can play the arpeggios to ‘Colour My World’ – that’s really cool!)

Gary Glitter - The Rhino best of is really quite good and probably the most complete. It covers his hits from '72 - '76 ( I didn't realize he was still having hits ,well in the UK at least ,that long). All the songs have a similiar sound to them but their all simple and very catchy. The standout tracks for me are:

Rock and Roll Part 1 and 2 (of course )
Do You Wanna Touch Me ? Oh Yeah!
I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I am)
I Didn't Know I Loved You ('Til I Saw You Rock and Roll)

I always wanted to take piano lessons when I was a kid, but never did, so I’m mostly self-taught. I started out learning on a keyboard, and played that for a few years, and then 2 years ago, got a piano. At one point I was getting fairly good, but then I got out of practicing every day and my playing started to get rusty. One of these days I hope to pick it up again.
