I can relate – 1988 was definitely not one of my better years.
There’s a song by Cinderella called ‘Nobody’s Fool’ that was popular the year before this, but I’m clueless as to this Kenny Loggins song. I’ve always liked his music, but must have missed this one entirely.
LOL about the Taylor Dayne story!
Oh, I remember 9th grade band initiation. We had to follow a flashlight beam on the other side of a sheet with our nose, and then after we’d finished that, we got slapped in the face with a plate of whipped cream! LOL about making the freshmen listen to that song!
I didn't know initiation was gonna be the day it was. I know it's supposed to take you by surprise, but it was usually the last day of camp. I didn't have a change of clothes, and I wore my Max Headroom shirt (all white on front except for a little thing that said "Max Headroom" on it. The pic was on the back.
Anyway, I had to do push-ups in mud. Then I got yelled at for being dirty, and got hosed down with a hose. The guy who hit me with the hose was our section captain (who I had a crush on). After he hosed me off and saw I had a white shirt on, he said "Oh - I'm sorry". That sucked. Thank goodness at least it was the end of practice. I also got shaving cream in my hair - took forever to wash off. This one girl who was a total bawl baby had her mom write her a note that said they'd better not do anything to her. Yeah, it wasn't the best thing in the world, but looking back on it, it was kid of fun. It's a rite of passage.
The year that we made the freshman listen to Bobby Mcferrin, we made them diapers with their names on them, made them wear bibs and baby hats and carry pacifiers. There's a picture in the one yearbook.
