Looks like a typical oldies station playlist.
10. Good song from the Yardbirds.
9. A classic, good to hear from time to time.
8. Good song, more proof Dylan should write and not sing.
7. Ok, but overplayed.
6. Ok instrumental.
5. DC5's hits are all good.
4. I like this one.
3. Again, a classic, but I don't need to hear it.
2. The one that doesn't really get oldie play, but certainly "of the times".
1. John's first "honest" song. Tired of it, but it IS the Beatles.

Some good stuff here. 10) It's not bad. 9) Prob my least favorite of theirs, but it's because it's the most often played. 8) Good song. I like Bob's version best, but this is still good. 7) Not bad, but overplayed. 6) I love this song, but by Dobie Gray. The movie of the same name (the one about the dance show - there's another movie of the same title that's way different) was good too. The main character was Donovan's son.....Donovan. 5) Not bad. The Theme From The Monkees has been rumored to be a ripoff of this. 4) Is this the Elvis/Willie/Pet Shop Boys song? 3) LOVE IT. 2) Great protest song. Still as true today. 1) Great song, and great movie!

Hey Dawn! I was about halfway through answering this yesterday when the power went out. Just came back on. I know you're in VA also. How did you fare? 10. Heart Full of Soul - Yardbirds Great song from a super group! 9. I Got You Babe - Sonny & Cher - Love this one. All time top 250. IMO, however, it was all downhill from there, both as a duet and as solos. 8. It Ain't Me Babe - Turtles Heard Johnny Cash's version first. Actually like the Turtles better. (Nonetheless, RIP, Johnny) 7. Hang On Sloopy - McCoys - A classic. Really liked it in the day, but it's played way too much as an oldie. 6. The "In" Crowd - Ramsey Lewis Trio - I'm not a jazz fan, so I really didn't care for this version. Like the original by Dobie Gray. 5. Catch Us If You Can - Dave Clark Five - Not their best, IMO. 4. You Were On My Mind - We Five - Good song, but way overplayed in the day. 3. Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan - Usually don't care for Dylan's singing. But this was one of the better ones. 2. Eve of Destruction - Barry McGuire -- Protest songs are in my "preachy songs" category, and I really don't care for them. I do like Barry's voice, however. 1. Help! - Beatles Not my fave by them-- but -- it's The Beatles. (We all say 'It's The Beatles' a lot, don't we. )

It’s a fun song, though. Dylan is definitely stronger as a songwriter than a singer, I agree. I like his voice a lot on ‘Lay Lady Lay’, but not so much on this one. I used to hear ‘Eve of Destruction’ a lot on the oldies stations back in 1990 or 1991, but I almost never hear it nowadays – maybe once or twice a year at most.

I’m with you about the Ramsey Lewis Trio – they had a unique, jazzy sound. I should investigate them further one of these days. For some reason, it took a little while for me to warm up to ‘You Were On My Mind’, but I like it quite a bit now. Nice vocals!

Are either of the versions on the movie soundtrack? I’d heard that too about ‘Catch Us If You Can’ – can’t quite recall where, though. No, this is a different one, although the titles are similar.. I think the song you’re thinking of is ‘Always on My Mind’.

Hi Woody! I’m with you about the Yardbirds, and this song in particular. I should probably look into a compilation CD of theirs sometime. ‘Eve of Destruction’ is definitely a period piece, I agree. I’ve read that there was an “answer” song released not long after called ‘The Dawn of Correction’, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually heard it.

I absolutely agree about 'Heart Full of Soul'. I can still remember the first time I heard it, on Dick Bartley's Saturday evening oldies show, back in 1989 or 1990. LOL - I noticed that too about the Beatles! They're definitely in a class all their own!

I think the song you’re thinking of is ‘Always on My Mind’. The movie had the Dobie Gray version in it. It had such great music, and I searched for years for a soundtrack, but never found one. It was a lower budget movie, so maybe they never put one out. It was made in late 80's. They used to show it on HBO alot. My mom liked it because it took place in Philly and reminded her of her summers growing up, going to Bandstand, etc. Joe Pantoliano plays the show host (ala Dick Clark). He does mention Dick at one point "Dick Clark, he took Bandstand away from our town......well maybe he'll succeed, maybe he wont....Perry Parker doesn't judge" There's a scene pretty early on, when Del manages to sneak onto the show. They're doing a kind of line dance, and the song in the background was one my mom used to play (she loaned her records to a friend many many years ago who wanted to tape them, and her friend's babysitter stole everything - we still see that woman - I want to choke her). It sounds like Martha and the Vandellas, but it's not. It took me until last year to find the song, and I managed to get a copy. It was "The Real Thing" by Tina Britt. It's amazing how many songs there are out there with that title..... I was able to tell from the credits on the movie that was the title (plus she says it over and over) but the print is so small, you can't read the artist. Here's a link - whoever wrote the plot summary for it needs to do a better job...... www.imdb.com/title/tt0095362/

That's a shame about your mom's friend's babysitter stealing those records, but it's good that you were able to find that song again.
