Do You remember ? The Magoos were from The Bronx area of New York and peaked on the billboard charts at #5 with this great tune in 1967 . They released two albums - Electric Comic Book and Psychedelic Lollipop.
I have the Mercury 45 as well as on the Nuggets box . The guitar playing is awesome! Singer / Guitarist "Peppy" Castro later became lead singer of the group Balance who had a #22 hit in 1981 with the song Breaking Away.

Hey Ken! Always liked that one. Have the 45 also. I remember someone did a spoof on it with a Russian twist. The song could be made to sound Russian very easily, and they called the group the Reds Magoos.

Oh yes! Love this tune. Don't even know where I would've heard it, as it is too "psychedelic" for the oldies station, and the classic rock station sucked too much to play it.
But anyway, I had my dad buy me a bunch of one hit wonders/garage band singles one Christmas. Along with this, I also got Psychotic Reaction and Talk Talk.
The reissue single I got had Blue Cheer's Summertime Blues on the flip.
Great hard psychedelic tune!

A great song, Ken! This has been a favorite of mine for many years - love that psychedelic sound! I used to hear it fairly regularly on the oldies stations here, but not very often nowadays, unfortunately. I didn't know about the connection to Balance - that's interesting!

Sure do! The oldies station I listen to digs it up occasionally.
